It's damned if they do and if they don't in this particular setup. I think there's a chance they'll go for Devon and Mariah, though it certainly would incense people. But ultimately I personally think both MM and CG could have much stronger partners than Bryton, and I think they are casting for that for at least Mariah and possibly Hillary as well judging by the latest casting notices.

I think you're right about Mariah. But I'm  sure that  reason ain't  because they think Bryton is too weak of  an actor  for her. His skin color is the biggest barrier.

But that other casting is  probably for Lily. The show recognizes that it's an issue lily has never been with a black guy. They'll probably try to correct it again.

Besides, Hilary isn't at all well recieved at the moment. Sally is way too smart to take an unconnected character fans want burned at the stake and pair her with another unconnected newbie...Unless it's an exit story.

Oh yes they do.

Beyond Lily's pairings with Cane & Daniel (Liv & Brad's gross one night stand & the Paul/Isabella debacle) Y&R hasn't really been WOC/WM friendly either.

The last WM/WOC pairing (complete with love scenes) was ten years ago with Jack & Carmen.

I didn't say it was good all the time. But they will go there easier than they ever would a black man sleeping with a white woman.

I agree the are in a damned if you do and damned if you don't place right now. Part of that is because the show has lost the trust of AA viewers. That's why I say bring on a black writer or consultant and then earn that trust back. Don't cave ever time people get pissed, show them that you can write fairly and that every character is going to take a hit sometimes because that's where the drama is.

To gain back trust. It's pretty obvious this show has lost that.

I can't remember the last time this show was written fairly.

Without desire, which is significantly cheaper, it doesn't matter who they hire.

I do think they should probably either hire a black writer or a consultant.  Then integrate the cast more and go balls to the wall with it no matter who doesn't like it. I'm not a fan of Lily and Cane, but they are a popular couple, so I think people will accept mixed race couples on this show.  They can make Hillary and Devon each others touch stone, the person they always come back to, but if they can only be together that's pretty limiting.

Isn't Susan Dansby still on staff?  I thought I'd seen her in the credits a couple days ago.

She probably get out voted on her ideas.

From looking at her twitter feed, she wrote some episode last week.

SSM did say in the Logan interview that wouldn't it be nice to bring on Jonelle Allen (who worked with SSM on Generations) as Hilary's mother. It was a joking, fanciful comment, but perhaps it indicates that she's interested in fleshing out Hilary's background more and explaining her insatiable drive. We'll see if she goes there.

MiM did a podcast a few weeks ago where she said that the new regime had taken a real liking to her character and what was going on with her so we'd see Hilary and Devon more and more. She also spoke about filming really emotional scenes. So I think you're correct.

That sounds good, doesn't it?

I was excited about the prospects for Hilary until I saw the first two episodes. It seemed more of the same to me. But as I said earlier, the key word is seem. I'm waiting to see how this "liking" translates onscreen.

Touche. Other than Keith Hamilton Cobb & MS Y&R has never had a BM/WF love scene.

Didn't Neil sleep with Ashley in a fade to black implied type thing?

I'm in 'wait and see' mode. So far I'm liking the emotional dynamics between characters, something we've seen little of in recent plot-based writing.

It would be great if MM is right that they love her. She's a great find and it would be terrible if they waste her.

The same thing happened with Kristoff St. John & Eileen Davidson.

They were pretty great together only for Y&R to drop them immediately to put Ashley in a chemistry free relationship with Stephen Nichols.

Kristoff also has/had really sweet chemistry with both MTS & Sharon Case. Neil & Nikki not having a drunken affair a couple of years ago was a HUGE missed opportunity.

EW @ Neil and Nikki. I like them as friends and that's it. Neil and Sharon was another friendship I liked but still... idk about that one.

Neil and Ashley I really liked. I was so annoyed when they ended that! They both ended up with actors they had no chemistry with.

Carmen was black? Jeez. How the hell did I miss that. I swear she was white.

I think YR needed a modern day writer aka Shelly Altman paired with Sally/Kay. like the east meets the west. Altman wrote all the emotional death stuff.
