Sonequa Martin-Green (Captain Michael Burnham from Star Trek Discovery)
now starring in new CBS series "Boston Blue" which debuts October 2025.

Details on the series (and a video of Sonequa talking about it)  behind the spoiler tag.
(spoiler tag used simply because this info isn't relevant to Star Trek.)

Spoiler

Info gleaned from EW and Deadline (disclaimer that some of the details have changed several times as the announcements have rolled out.).

"Boston Blue" is a spinoff of "Blue Bloods".
Bluebloods is a cancelled 14-season series about
an Irish-American family of law enforcement professionals
that was set in New York.

Boston Blue is (obviously) set in Boston.

Boston Blue: Sonequa Martin-Green plays Police Detective Lena Silver.
(The character name was preliminarily announced as "Lena Peters", but now we know it's actually "Lena Silver".)
Lena Silver is from
a family lineage of Black law enforcement professionals in Boston.

In this Boston Blue series, it's *her* family that is featured.

Gloria Reuben is cast as Lena's mother, Mae Silver, Boston's District Attorney and the head of a blended family of law enforcement professionals. Mae is the widow of Judge Ben Silver who was murdered on the courthouse steps.  Mae endeavors to put family ahead of work whenever possible.

Maggie Lawson will play Sarah Silver, the strong-willed and decisive Superintendent of the Boston Police Department. Sarah is the stepdaughter of Mae and the daughter of deceased Judge Ben Silver.
Sarah is the stepsister of Sonequa's character Lena.

Marcus Scribner will play Jonah Silver, a rookie cop, son of Mae, brother of Lena.

Ernie Hudson is cast as a Baptist pastor and the patriarch of the family, father to Gloria Rueben's character Mae, and grandfather to Sonequa Martin-Green's character Lena. (His character name is apparently "Reverend Peters" but this character name is listed differently in various articles.)

Donnie Wahlberg plays his same "Blue Bloods" character Danny Reagan in the new series "Boston Blue", but his character has moved from New York to Boston.
Walberg's Danny and Sonequa's Lena are police partners to each other.
Walhberg is also the executive producer of the Boston Blue series.

Mika Amonsen will play Danny Reagan's son, police patrolman Sean Reagan. (This is a recast of the same character from the original Blue Bloods series.)

Sonequa Martin-Green and Donnie Walhberg talk about Boston Blue:
(on CBS youtube channel - you might need a VPN if outside the USA to see this youtube)

I'm not interested in the police procedural aspect, but it's cool that Gloria Rueben will play her mother.

Never been a Trekkie by any means, but that is pretty cool to see nonetheless. Of course, the end of the article has a soap 'fact' that's wildly inaccurate.

Anyone watching Starfleet Academy? I really liked the first episode, but it's going downhill for me. The 4th episode with the Klingon story was second best, but man I just can't get behind the Burn. I wish the Burn never happened and we weren't so far into the future.

With Lower Decks and Picard finished, I'm pretty sad with the current state of Trek. I like Strange New Worlds, but we're about to have our last season and I haven't heard of anything else in the pipeline. I really really wish we could have had the continuation of Picard with Seven of Nine as captain and the LaForge daughters.

I watched the first two episodes on the night they dropped. I was tired because it was the middle of the night, but liked them. Haven't had time to watch since then.
I'm going to go back and watch episodes 1 and 2 again when I'm awake.
Then I need to get caught up to see #3 and 4. I guess I'll have a trek binge day.

Tawny Newsome is on the writing staff for Starfleet Academy. She was the voice actor for the lead ensign Beckett Mariner on Star Trek: Lower Decks.

The first six episodes of Starfleet Academy were previewed to some of the press earlier in January. No actual spoilers but various reviewers seem to agree that episode 5 is really great.
The only spoiler hint for episode 5 is just a hint

(spoiler hint)

a hint or some reference to DS9 and possibly a reference to Sisko in an unusual way? Even the reviewers who saw it won't say more than that so I have no idea!

Tawny Newsome is credited as one of the writers of episode 5. That's coming this week, so I'm curious!

I've read that about Episode 5 too and I'm optimistic :)

That's awesome about Tawny, I actually didn't know that part. I loved Lower Decks haha.

Same here, big time.

The actress playing cadet "Genesis" reminds me of a young Sarah Joy Brown's Carly on GH. Not the character, just her face and facial expressions.
