I originally thought he seemed like a massive improvement over the original Ben, but to be quite honest, the original guy was a much, MUCH better fit for the character. His acting, in hindsight, was only slightly worse, and I kind of blame the writers/dialog people for his thickheaded appearance.

On the one hand, I think it's awesome to see DAYS put a new twist on this kind of story, allowing us to know the killer's identity this early in the game, rather than doing the usual "black glove" mess, where everyone, both viewers and other characters alike, is kept in the dark until the bitter, ignoble end.  But, on the other hand, I think it's a shame that it's being wasted on an actor who, as BetterForgotten says upthread, cannot act for [!@#$%^&*].

Oh, well.  With any luck, he will go and stay gone when it's over.

I'm sure Drew Carey would have loved that as well.  (Yeah, I said it.)

I will be that guy and stick up for Rob Wilson. I did not watch what I am sure was his interminable and tiresome early tenure on DAYS as heroic Ben the cipher, but I did watch and love him on AMC 2.0, and I am enjoying him here as the clearly disturbed killer.

Wilson is very green still, but one thing I think he has always had is a surplus of charisma and charm, which masks a certain arrogance or dark anger which his Pete Cortlandt also exhibited. That character was a heartthrob and a hunk with a good heart, but he also had, like his father Palmer, a rigid conqueror side which came out when he was pushed and threatened to alienate his loved ones. This is a thread they only somewhat touched on before the show ended.

As a physical specimen Wilson is perfect, but IMO he has always been good - if untrained - at showing the dark side of perfection. Ben on DAYS is no different, and from what little I've seen I think his erratic portrayal of the somewhat deranged, arrested adolescent, weepy manchild underneath the perfect hunky surface is solid. I'm sure I'd have hated his year as the stalwart hero, though. He's more than just a Prince Charming.

Frankly, Vee, I don't see the charisma or charm or "dark anger," as you put it.  I just see a set of abs and a pair of pecs all trying to emote -- which would be fine, I guess, if this were a show on the CW.  But, hey, I won't quibble over your argument.

    • I really didn't start watching the show until season 12 when I was a teen, so I only caught the last three years. I LOVED the show over all though...even that part of 13 that was a bit messy! So, it's been a treat streaming the previous seasons on Plex. I'm amazed at how well so much of the writing holds up over 30 years later. Far better than a lot that we get today! For the most part, stories move along at nice pace with good twists and turns! I just finished season 11, so I'm finally picking up where I started watching all those years before. When I started watching as a teen, Laura had already died, so while she was mentioned pretty often, I didn't have much background with the character. CM was an amazing actress and had chemistry with everyone. So, it's a bit of a headscratcher that they didn't seem to have any idea of what to do with her starting at around season 7. Her scenes at that point are mostly short, brief, and she has very little true story right until the episodes where she's dying in 9. I wonder what it was about the character that the writers couldn't figure out what to do with her. Also, Ben's exit storyline was a bit confusing for me. I never really got who this woman was who was stalking him and this "secret organization." The whole plot seems like it should be on a different show. Michelle Phillips and Nicolette Sheridan have really fun mom/daughter/frenemies chemistry. I remember having a huge crush on PP's Michael and being disappointed when he was written out at the end of season 12.

People with the disorder can: Have an unreasonably high sense of self-importance and require constant, excessive admiration. Feel that they deserve privileges and special treatment. Expect to be recognized as superior even without achievements. Make achievements and talents seem bigger than they are. Be preoccupied with fantasies about success, power, brilliance, beauty or the perfect mate. Believe they are superior to others and can only spend time with or be understood by equally special people. Be critical of and look down on people they feel are not important. Expect special favors and expect other people to do what they want without questioning them. Take advantage of others to get what they want. Have an inability or unwillingness to recognize the needs and feelings of others. Be envious of others and believe others envy them. Behave in an arrogant way, brag a lot and come across as conceited. Insist on having the best of everything — for instance, the best car or office. At the same time, people with narcissistic personality disorder have trouble handling anything they view as criticism. They can: Become impatient or angry when they don't receive special recognition or treatment. Have major problems interacting with others and easily feel slighted. React with rage or contempt and try to belittle other people to make themselves appear superior. Have difficulty managing their emotions and behavior. Experience major problems dealing with stress and adapting to change. Withdraw from or avoid situations in which they might fail. Feel depressed and moody because they fall short of perfection. Have secret feelings of insecurity, shame, humiliation and fear of being exposed as a failure. --- Or maybe Leslie simply has Soap Villain Syndrome.
    • Ambryn Michelle and Trisha Mann-Grant are easily the most charismatic actresses to grace daytime in a longggggggg time. This show wouldn’t be as good without them, IMO.
    • whatever she has is far worse. Narcissism is just a symptom for deeper issues.

    • What is it? I already know Ambyr was electrifying.
    • The show isn't great right now, but I do hope it can stay on, unlikely as that may be. I guess at least it's better than this time last year. I will say it doesn't really feel like Shortland Street anymore.
    • You guys are going to die when you watch the first scene of today's episode.
    • True. We agree here. She is far from done.
    • Jacob's brother is named "Luke" and their mother is named "Darlene", for the sake of specifics and all.
