February 11, 201511 yr Member The worst part is, both of those parties who sued could do good. Victoria Rowell should be back on Y&R, and PP's AMC and OLTL deserved to continue. But both lawsuits are, IMO, deeply wrongheaded and foolish, and just dishonest, irrational covers for other objectives. In her case, she has been hoping to bluster her way back onto Y&R for years; in PP's case, their upper management are bankrupt, litigious shysters who are desperate to pay their creditors. Due to Rowell's choices she will likely never be back on CBS again; due to PP's own follies, they were unable to strike a deal which could have kept those shows going long enough for them to turn a real profit and stand on their own two feet - and yes, for better or worse, IMO that would likely have required building a bridge with ABC as opposed to burning it behind them - ABC has money they never did, and PP proved they could produce to a low budget. Unfortunately, the PP soaps were controlled by irrational, blundering executives who don't know how to meet anyone halfway, and Victoria Rowell has made all the wrong choices in trying to return to daytime. Yep. Especially when it comes to those racist ass bitches Black Agnes Nixon and Erika Slezak!
February 12, 201511 yr Member Goodness I wish this woman put as much energy into her career as she does on hanging on to this old grudge. Right? What happened to that pilot she was working on? Though to be fair that was kind of loosely based off Y&R as well.
February 12, 201511 yr Member Isn't it funny? I swear GH has a casting side for a black woman every couple of months and they never seem to get cast. So true they seem to always be casting a black woman in her 20s with a dynamic personality.
February 12, 201511 yr Member Can't see that VR or her legal team really think they have a chance going up against a major corporation based on events from years ago. All I can think is that Ms Rowell thinks that the case will bring to light some of the racism in the industry and/ or put her back in the spotlight which might lead to some work. In the years following her leaving Y&R I'm sure she has missed out on work. Most execs would never had heard of her (like most daytime'stars') and any feelers they put out would come back negative,eg She badmouthed CBS. So they would move on to a less challenging candidate. Now with Empire,Scandal etc taking off I'm sure there will be a slew of projects with black casts.Networks love to copy success. The fact that the imitators seldom succeeed is always ignored.
February 12, 201511 yr Administrator Deleted some posts......if I have to delete more the thread will be closed. You know how much I *love* VR threads!
February 12, 201511 yr Member Sony and the Bells do not own the entire entertainment industry. So if that is Ms. Rowell's stance as to why she isn't working, it's weak as hell. I tend to agree with those who think this is a (very misguided) way to try to go back to a soap she left. She was not fired. She left. And no employer is beholden to a former employee once "former" kicks in. Some rehire, some don't. Welcome to the world of employment. And when a worker bitches at the hand that feeds them - whether the bitching is rooted in fact or not - it's not hard to see why the employer wouldn't want to chance things for any Round 2. Not the entertainment business, but there was a story on my Facebook feed today where a teenager was bitching about her job at a pizzeria on Twitter - and her boss saw all the trash talk and fired her - also on Twitter. So employers not wanting all the drama isn't just exclusive to TV or whatever. It's life. In this David versus Goliath lawsuit, I just do not see this ending favorably for VR. I understand she is a talented author. Maybe she should devote her energy there.
February 12, 201511 yr Member Even if she loses the case she still wins. I honestly don't see how. She is taking on corporations with loads of money and power. Her name may be out there, but I can't see anyone wanting to hire her since she has such a contentious history. Unless you mean financially. But I think this could be career suicide for VR if she wants to continue acting. Edited February 12, 201511 yr by Wendy
February 12, 201511 yr Member She's done everything there is to do in the industry. Most actors don't even get one hit show.
February 12, 201511 yr Member But that's not winning. After this is done and over, she'll fade into obscurity unless she wins the case. I'd rather drop the suit and work on her own projects. Now is the time.
February 12, 201511 yr Member she remains relevant for 15 extra minutes? More like 5 minutes of fame.
February 12, 201511 yr Member she'll fade into obscurity But she won't. She's still working maybe not as much as she likes but work is work (especially for 50+ Black actresses).
February 12, 201511 yr Member I *need* TMZ to post that complaint once it's been filed. Edited February 12, 201511 yr by BoldRestless
