Y&R: January 2015 Discussion Thread

The current crop of 20 & 30 Y&R characters are the ones who are really directionless (made even more apparent by the complete lack of business stories).

If there were at least one or two minor business stories happening for the younger characters to be involved in they would seem much more realistic.

Over the past few years the only way Y&R gives the younger set stories is by inventing new bars & clubs for them to manage.

It's readily apparent in a character like Abby who since she's been SORASED has had little to do (in between random chemistry tests & backburnered relationships) besides star in naked reality shows & unnecessarily terrorize her stepfather.

The worst decision ever made was to SORAS that set of legacy kids so fast and throw them into adult stories. Abby went from a kid to a teen to 30 years old in the span of 3 years.

Noah and Kyle working and competing under Victor's thumb at Newman could have had potential, I still don't get why that was dropped so quickly along with that Kyle who was pretty decent IMO. Now they've got Noah in this struggle background story with Malibu Cop Barbie that no one cares about.

It was dropped because RA, much like JM, is not believable as an executive. HS did work in that role even if his bone structure was a tad bit too strong for the haircut he chose, which resulted in him not looking the part of a playboy or heartthrob. The Abbot was outshining the Newman and I don't think that was what the execs wanted. The Newman must always win.

There's no need for Colin. I'd like to see Jill and Joe together, with him double crossing Victor for a piece of Chancellor.

Today's show was OK. I was surprised by the Sage's reveal...did anyone see that coming? The down side would be Sage staying in GC longer needed. Constance's "vision" of Gabriel wasn't good, there had to be something about Adam that made her doubt his identity before this.

Apparently, Kelly's descent into Crazytown isn't going to be subtle. That gas tank issue needs to be explained asap, it makes even less since now since Phyllis said she topped off the day before.

Avery sucks.

I sure didn't and Adam obviously didn't either. laugh.png

If not for that evil look Kelly gave at the end of the show a couple of days ago, I'd still think that Phyllis was going to be the but case. I regret that things aren't going in that direction.

Poor Sharon. She tried to stand up to her attorney, but I feel like she got steam rolled. He must have his own agenda.

Cady does give good crazy, I'll give her that. We all saw this coming long ago, of course. I thought Watros' Kelly would be revealed to be the driver who killed Delia and I still think that.

There's plenty of crap on the show but everything with Gina's Phyllis, Justin Hartley (except for that "white light" schtick), even poor Camryn Grimes stuck with Kevin was shockingly compelling. There are the seeds of a good show amidst this mess which no one there can properly cultivate, or cut the bad apples - Burton, Rikaart, the various anonymous hunks, Inspector PornHub, Amelia Heinle and Stitch, Billthuselah, etc.

I'll admit I didn't. I thought she was a red herring and Phyllis was nuts due to Victor ignoring the doctor.

Michael/LeBlanc's acting was ridiculous as he was 'jogging.' What a mess. But I have to say, I liked that it all built up to Michael's determination not to take anything for granted, even if the execution and acting was shoddy.

Jill looked fabulous & her going after Chancellor Industries has the potential to be great. I pray they can pull it off but we'll probably see this story every two weeks for a total of eight episodes, after which Victor will win (prove me wrong, bitches!).

The decision to SORAS Abby & Kyle made no sense especially given there was no story for them (Abby featured very little in the Adam & Ashley debacle) & Kyle had even less to do.

As you said, a Kyle & Noah rivalry should write itself, but was dropped along with almost every other story that has potential on this horrible show.

The only thing that I tell myself while watching Kelly's quick descent into psycho-land.. is that it actually makes sense.. or would make more sense if Watros were playing the part. Her five month stint highlighted a woman on a downward slope due to the loss of her child, husband and I assume job. I do agree it looked like she was slanted to be the hit and run driver of Delia, which would have added an interesting layer to her complicated connection to Billy already. When that didn't happen, the show slanted it where it looked like Kelly would develop a fatal attraction for Billy.. but I guess when Watros' Kelly had chemistry with Jack.. plans must have changed and the show started putting their focus on them with Kelly still trying to keep it together and rebuild her life.

Once Watros left and Cady took over.. Kelly went from a grief stricken mom who was on the verge of a breakdown.. to this sharply dressed woman who seemed more concerned about impressing Jack then trying to rebuild her life. Plus, any traces of her self-destruction was taken out and Kelly became a card-board character. I have a feeling the show noticed there wasn't chemistry with her and Peter Bergman hence the recast of Phyllis.

A poster made a comment that if Kelly could keep it together, barely.. but still, through the death of her child and her marriage.. why lose it over Jack? I think that losing Jack is the straw that broke the camel's back. She never really got over the death of her child/marriage as it appeared... it's as if she used Jack as another crutch to avoid dealing with it. As we briefly saw with BIlly, now that Jack has returned to Phyllis.. we are seeing Kelly unglue again because she no longer has a distraction to her pain.

"What's Kevin been arrested for?"

"Breaking and entering, burglaring... some other things."

"Yeah but he's turned his life around and he's definitely paid for his crimes."

BULLSH!T

I like Kevin and Mariah. I think that CM should have played Diane. I don't like Stitch or Dylan. They can leave.

When did Adam come out to Jack and why? Was he caught?

So I guessing Mariah and Sharon are cool with each other now?

Nick...just ugh

Kevin the criminal works for the police department? Double ugh

Sharon & Mariah have a great relationship and she is one of the few people who actually supports her.

Nick's behavior/things he said during the mediation made me want to pull my hair out. Just really, REALLY bad, and the sad part is that I sense the writing is on his side. :S

I was thinking the same thing about Kevin and that police department. First of all, why are people just allowed to walk in and out of that place as they see fit? Second of all, in what universe does a person with so many crimes under their belts get to be anywhere near a PD?

I think that CM should have played Diane.

Honestly, I don't see why anyone but the original actress had to play Diane.

Adam went right over and told him, blackmailing him that he'd rat out Burgess Meredith for trying to kill him!

Which also doesn't make sense. What's he going to say? "Hi, my name is Adam, I have let the authorities believe I am dead, have had plastic surgery to change my appearance but, hey, arrest dat bad man who tried to kill me?"
