If anything, Goutman would take JFP's "improvements" into overdrive. Every single aspect of production, from the top all the way to the bottom, would suffer.

No, if they can't convince Ed Scott or David Shaughnessy to return, then I would rather go with Wendy Riche or someone completely new to daytime.

I agree with Ed Scott or David Shaughnessy. In my view, the were the last EP's that 'got' the fabric of the show.

Or if not, and dependant on circumstances, Noel Maxam? He was one of the EP's tasked with rebooting Days Of Our Lives a few years ago. I could be wrong but wasn't he more focused on the production side of things? I don't make the suggestion with more conviction because I'm unaware of the circumstances surrounding his removal.

Plus he has history with Y&R.

Just a name that came to mind when thinking about it.

Re: Steve's Dylan I think Avery is a mismatch, yes he's not the most animated and this pairing isn't doing him any favors he needs someone that can stoke a little fire in him. They're just too bland, with no onscreen chemistry/presence for me that would help him out.

Considering the Jean P's horrid track record I also expected MUCH WORSE. And I'll take the bold step to defend the HWs on this show as much as that their stories are decent to good. It's the weekly breakdowns, the plotting of those stories which is very subpar and makes for a rather boring slum. The show could probably thrive with some old school Bell blood in the writing department: Natalie Minardi, Jim Houghton, Trent Jones, anyone... The only one who should his/her jobis the one who is picking the flashbacks - he/she is doing a splendid job!

I'm a few days behind BUT Jack and Kelly drive me NUTS. Kelly is one of THE most annoying pointless characters ever... This romance is not even worth to hit the FF button on the remote. So much dreck. Ugh!

Kelly is really more of a pp character for Sticktoria.

Her purpose is to keep Stitch's sooper dooper sekrit front and center. It's soooooo horrible Victoria will never forgive or understand. And Kelly is the only one who knows what it is.

Jill Phelps, executive producer of Y&R who has the distinction of having held that title on six soaps over the past three decades, says the shows have been made over for a cooler audience. "The stories have more edge, there are quicker editing cuts and newer music," says Phelps. "The pace, tone and sophistication have changed. We have smarter viewers, and I think that's true of all the soaps. It's an overall hipper viewing audience."

This is what JFP said about today's soaps. Oh Jill lol.

Jill surely knows how to Sit & Spin her tenures. Her stints at SB, and GL were good. Her OLTL AW GH & know Y&R is like a roller coster ride and not a good ride at that. More hots than misses IMHO

This woman always gets it wrong. Audiences want intriguing characters in fascinating, provocative stories. They want the history of the show to be respected and incorporated into current writing. Music, pacing, tone, "sophistication" are secondary. The major problem with Y&R today is the uninspired writing. Jean P is totally out of her league as is Shelley A. Their Y&R is a snoozefest most days. Faster pacing doesn't help weak story. Anemic, generic music cues do nothing to pull the viewer in. Static direction and unimaginative lighting only enhance the feeling that this once great show is winding down. JFP doesn't get it. She never has. She was the absolute worse choice that Sony and CBS could have made to put in the EP chair, and we're seeing the reason why. The key advertising demos continue to hemorrhage week after week. The show is directionless. Even so, I doubt Angelica McDaniel or Steve Kent will remove her. They've invested too much into their decision to hire her. If they fire her it's a mark against their own decision making. But something needs to be done. The old guard needs to be reinstated. Bring back the people from the Bell days who understand this show and know how great it can be.

I personally think we have seen nothing yet. JFP has been very laid back so far and tried to produce what she thought is Y&R and I give her that. (To the extent that I think the writers did a pretty decent job or least a much better than one what the show's visuals look like) The next step considering the tanking ratings will be GH like sweeps stunt. The "hostage crisis" at the GCAC was nothing compared to what is probably ahead.
