Some of the scenes that I've been seeing lately seem a bit like filler. I get that they're using some scenes to establish relationships between characters or have characters interact who haven't interacted in more than awhile and it had started to raise questions, but most of these scenes had nothing going on other than exposition--they could've shaved some minutes from some of these scenes and had a tighter dynamic that might have eliminated some of the lulls and punched up the dialogue.

I may be getting too far ahead because I've already seen Monday's episode.

Speaking of Monday's episode-- there was a couple of scenes that laid out exposition and did it surprisingly well. I was shocked.

The scenes have improved, though as they are neither completely offensive to my sensibilities (MAB) nor deadly boring (JG). I do need more movement on a few of these stories though. I'm looking at you Michael, Lauren and Fen.

Wednesday:

WTF with Hilary and that dude at Underground? He called her "Crazy wench?" Who in their early twenties talks like that? And I am really not interested in Devon and Hilary. They have zero chemistry. Zilch. Nada.

Billy is being written like an uneducated idiot. He had to be corrected about saying "I" instead of "me"? He can't read the papers to figure out if they're legit? Billy? The Abbott golden boy that grew up in private schools in New York and spent his holidays in Aspen? GMAFB. These writers have no idea who Billy is. They just adopted Billy Miller's persona, much like they did for Nick (although the problem there is much lesser).

Loved it when Chloe realized Cheslea slept with Fired!Adam. "We are talking about you and Adam! Eeeeeeeeeeew!" And then she asked if Chelsea was pregnant. I iked her for the first time since she was first introduced. And, don't tell anyone, but I thought it was very sad when she realized the scarf wasn't Delia's. But really horrible police work by Kevin and Alex. Just nasty.

I like that the old father/son dynamic Jack and Nick used to have is showing through. And Jack & Hilary work amazingly well together. That little moment when Jack decided to steal Hilary's dream and do it for Summer was excellently played by Mishael Morgan.

Gag me with Lily and Cane being cute and Devon being arrested. Nobody cares. Next!

I just don't see any chemistry between Devon and Hilary. Strangely she and Jack actually have chemistry.

YRBB they adopted Billy Miller's persona for Billy Abbott long ago. It started with Jimmys and went from there.

I still can't stand Nick but Sharon makes him tolerable.

Speaking of Fenn he's being look less creepy since he got jumped by that prison gang. And they finally fixed his hair.

We're getting a 90s episode for New Years

Wednesday 1/1/14 ‪#‎YR‬ will air a classic episode from 1998 when Nick and Sharon celebrate the holiday with Cassie. Will you be watching?

Yep, Hilary and Jack have great chemistry but only as father/daughter type of thing.

I know they did; it just never fails to amaze me. This character is only Billy by name.

JM is INCREDIBLY lucky to have had Sharon Case as his wife on the show. She saved his ass many times over. Which is why I've always thought JM was an idiot to publicly speak about preferring MS. I don't care if she's 10x more fun to work with in his opinion--he would be nowhere without SC.

1998 New Year's? Nice! And I think I might be able to watch!

Catching up with last week (stuck at Wednesday now)...

Chelsea& Adam - tsssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssss - as everyone else said: they are super boring and I want them off my screen.

Billy & LostLibby ah Kelly - tssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssss

Everything else is pretty good. The Carmine murder stuff is finally moving even though I could do without it. The Newman are still very annoying as a whole but at least Sharon & Nick are worth watching.

The Jill stuff has been gold. Esther and the whole online auction thing is pretty much a new classic. The acting was spot-on and Esther and crosswords I just couldn't... LMAO

I couldn't care less about Fen, Michael and Lauren at this point. Lauren is a hand-wringing harridan (except when she's with Jill), CLB seems like he is auditioning for a Broadway musical, and Fen is monotone and dead-eyed. This story is just not grabbing me.

It's definitely not engaging or interesting. I enjoy them only because of the JIll&Lauren aspect, seeing Paul & Christine plus Summer with Fenmore. There is some nice interaction.

The story itself stinks - and it looks so redundant because groundwork has been layed that as soon as Paul goes after Fen, Carmine will resurface or some other lame twist will take place. Hard to believe that Mickey & Lauren were the show's hottest commodity like 9 months ago with the Carmine affair!?

I said it before and I'll say it again-- the Carmine murder mystery needs to power through and wrap up. It hasn't been riveting enough to take longer to unfold, it has just mostly dragged but thankfully, looks as if it is heading toward a conclusion.

Whether JM likes it or not, he and SC have chemistry. And she definitely makes him better. Even a simple scene like putting tinsel on a tree was made more enjoyable to watch. They actually don't know a lot of angst to be interesting. It's actually the little things that make them more relatable.

For some reason, I don't think CBS.com shows classic episodes. At this point, that would be the only thing that would lure me to that dreadful site.

    • I am so over these reboots that on the one hand, want to trade off the nostalgia for the original and then change everything anyway. So those who liked the original will most likely be disappointed in the changes and it doesn't mean anything to newer viewers who have no connection. Maybe if they do have some knowledge of the original they will be turned off, thinking that it's some irrelevant old person's show. Anyone who watched and liked 7th Heaven would be way out of the desired demo by now.
    • I think that kind of thinking gives the writers a free pass. OK let's have Fred murder someone but not face any real consequences because Mary loves him. Maybe she'll be angry for a few weeks and Bill will swear to avenge the death but that will blow  over then we can just go on. The idea that a bit of self loathing and rejection is punishment enough is ridiculous. Especially when these type of characters never reform. It allows the writers to go for shock value over and over.instead of crafting storylines that really delve into a dark/ villianous character. Not many people IRL can get away with multiple crimes and still be apart of a community.
    • I guess Wayne felt it was now or never. He'd made a splash at Days and probably hoped that would lead to a primetime series. If he signed for another 3 years at Days then the momentum would be lost and he's probably have to stay in soaps like so many others. And in the back of his mind there was the knowledge he could probably get a role on SB or GH if he didn't luck out in primetime or Days didn't want him back. As it turned out he returned to Dynasty and got a couple of primetime gigs before agreeing to go back to Days.

I got to agree. The show was a mess.  The stories that are not working were the ones featured in today's episode. That was a red flag indicating how bad the episode was going to be.
    • Thanks as always @alwaysAMC The remote was panned in the soap press at the time, especially Philip wandering around in the costume as well as some of the comedy.  I have to admit it didn't bother me, even though I knew how ludicrous the idea was of the Spauldings having a wedding at a theme park. I thought there were some fun moments and I did like the scene where Lucy got to cry and grieve over what Brent had done to her.  I think I was just glad to get away from the stories in Springfield, which were bad and getting worse.  There are a number of attempts at revamping the opening music in 1996. I'll be interested in what you think of them. I remember being glad they updated the photos but also noticing how cheap they looked. The show did need a new opening. Sadly, Rauch would instead just not even have an opening for over 5 years.
    • BTG: - Shelley Curtis first listed as Director on May 19   Another FOJulie director.
    • It’s been awhile since I’ve seen a good soap cat fight so this was highly satisfying. Loved the Drew/Curtis scenes. Drew may not end up murdered but someone is going to try and kill him and it feels like it’s going to be much sooner than later. Who thought Dante ranting and raving for weeks on end would be good writing just to create angst between him and Gio. I really don’t think you needed to make Dante this fuc.king annoying.
    • I get what you're saying, in that this is what allows you to accept what you are watching, and that works for you. But for me, changing the traits of a character that much with a recast and new writing, then they are no longer the same character.  I am unable to accept that a villain is now just a nice dude because the show wants me to, I just cannot.  If they want a grey character, then they should write off the villain and *create* a new character who is grey.  I'll never accept that Sonny Corinthos is a nice guy, despite what GH wants me to think.  Same goes for the villains on DAYS. It's frustrating for me, and not enjoyable.  It occurs to me that I watch soaps to be entertained, and the current show is just making me angry and irritated. It's not fun for me.  I want to honor Drake to see John's story conclude, but there isn't much of interest to me anymore at all, so I'll probably stop following the show in a few weeks.
    • The wikipedia article doesn't explain much. I watched the Party of Five reboot, it was on Freeform in 2020.  It was five years ago, but I'll tell you what I remember: In the original Party of Five series , the parents died, and the five sibling orphans worked together to raise themselves with the older ones looking out for the younger, while managing the family restaurant.  The oldest child wants to have fun but ends up assuming the responsibility. In the 2020 reboot: The family were Mexican, the parents were undocumented, and the oldest child is an adult who could stay in the US for DACA.  In the reboot, instead of the parents dying -- in the first episode the parents were arrested by ICE and sent back to Mexico.   The five children were left in the U.S. to raise themselves with the older ones looking out for the younger, while managing the family restaurant.  The oldest child wants to have fun but ends up assuming the responsibility.  The teens go through teen stuff and the older ones explore careers.  The child daughter feels sad without her parents, and there is also a baby.  But the children were able to have periodic phonecalls with their parents in Mexico, which were very emotional.  The children hire an attorney to try to get their parents returned to the U.S.  The dad phones them to check on the management of the restaurant.  The younger children crave talking to the mom on the phone. The viewers also see how the parents are coping with the strain in Mexico:  the mom works as a nanny and the dad gets odd jobs-- they almost divorce, and the mom wants to stay in Mexico.  I think a few of the children got to take the bus to Mexico to visit their parents. The youngest child was a baby and the next-youngest missed the parents very much.  In the season one finale, it was decided that the youngest two would remain Mexico and live with their parents.  The older children remained in the USA and were following their dreams.  Season One finished airing just as the COVID epidemic began and everything shut down. The show was not renewed for Season Two.   That's all I remember.  It was good but very different from the original. Edit to add: Amazing how the world has changed in five years.  The reboot was filmed in 2019 during the first Tr*mp presidency, and aired in 2020.  The immigration situation was tense then, and that was explored in the series.  But it seems carefree in comparison to the real world today in 2025. Edit to add more thoughts.  I have no idea what would have happened in future seasons, since the five siblings were no longer a "party of five" at the end of Season One.   Supposedly the cancellation wasn't even announced until after the Season One finale aired.  But the season one finale was 90 minutes and wrapped up some lose ends, so maybe the producers anticipated a cancellation, and did that just in case? Perhaps if it there had been future seasons, the younger children would age and then return to the USA and the five would reunite? I don't know.
    • Probably not. Then again, if any character defined the final 25 years of GL it was Reva.
