60 all-time greatest soap moments-TV Guide

Oh hell no! Felicia's intervention is below PC's vampire garbage?! That story was the best alcoholism story to be told and acted on daytime. This list lost all credibility off that alone. Plus, Roger & Holly rape story should be #2. That story alone was insightful and changed views on martial rape. I'm sorry but anything supernatural on soaps minus Dark Shadows needs to be at the bottom of this list. Lisa's arrival to Oakdale needs to be top ten too because without Lisa, there'd be no soap vixen. Lord have mercy. . . sleep.png

Logan seems to have mixed views on rape (he agreed with those who defended GH turning Jax's rape into a hahafest), so that may explain the placement.

The PC vampire story was a shock value moment, and attached to a soap (GH, since they brought that crap over this year) he is always a big fan of, so that would probably explain it. I do think the initial moment was good, before Michael Easton stopped caring (after about three months), but I wouldn't have put it on the list.

ANd while it in no way had as much impact in the long run what with the character gone, AMC had already done it.

Wait...what did AMC do? (CBS girl here.)

These lists are all kinds of bogus---and definitely one that doesn't include "Hello, Barbara". As per usual, there's a heavy ABC/DOOL focus. GMAB.

On AMC in the early or mid 70s, Margo Flax had a facelift, as the actress (Eileen Lechtworth) had one in real life. I don't think we saw her in surgery, as we did with Katherine, but they showed her afterward.

I do think Katherine's was a bigger moment in soap history, but not something I'd have put on the list for Katherine.

I agree that more P&G should have been there. It seems like it's a list of shock value as much as actual quality. Stuff like Vincent is what caused viewers to flee soaps.

To me a list like this isn't just the greatest moments, but the most memorable and some memorable moments are rather insane.

I don't find Ridge's paternity a particularly engaging or memorable moment. It just got a shoulder shrug from me. It's not like it was discovered that Ridge had Spectra roots or something...the Marrone's weren't a huge deal. Had Massimo been on the show for 4 or 5 years or at the beginning like Bill Spencer or early on like Sally Spectra, it might have had more impact. As the story played out, it didn't seem particularly stand-out from where I was watching.

You were around for that? wink.png

Sure was! I remember the cutting edge ad campaign touting Laura's return. "I dream of Genie With The Light Brown Hair" was tearing up the charts and GH scored a major coup when it got it for the show!

I'm glad they included Felicia's intervention.

Me too -- though Rachel killing Janice should have outranked it. I can also think of a number of AW moments that should have made the list instead of Ryan & Vicky reuniting in heaven.

I just noticed Robert Wilson sings this

"And I'd so pick Jack stepping over Victor's "dead" body over Katherine's facelift. I get that the merging of "real" and "reel" was groundbreaking, but in the end it was a stunt.''

ANd while it in no way had as much impact in the long run what with the character gone, AMC had already done it. This list is kinda typical in that the choices are made for such vastly different reasons, its hard to compare them (as others have said some were truly great, others WTF and others very meh.)

I am shocked they mentioned any before 1990 let alone TSS/SFT/RH. I was expecting the Oldest Clip to be L&L's Wedding. I am very surprised SFT was mentioned!!

I think I saw a little over half of these in real time. Some I agree with, some not. Too much Reilly for me, except the one from him I actually liked---Vivian burying Carly alive! I was pleasantly surprised to see Doug eloping with Addie on the list. Don't hear that one referenced very often.

1.Luke & Laura's wedding-GH 1981 (Laiman/Racina)

59. Luke rapes Laura-GH 1979 (Marland)

This just proves to me what a hack writer Laiman really is/was...marry your rapist...ugh...even though the ratings were the highest for any soap.

I don't recall Angie ever swearing.

I'll admit that even all these days later I'm still REALLY bothered by PP's decision to do this. I wasn't terribly bothered by all the other drama because it was BTS but this actually affects what I'm seeing on screen. This changes the product I was sold and chose to "buy." I've been here before with ABC which went out of its way repeatedly to make sure we knew that they only cared about a very specific part of the audience.

Maybe it's just my Battered Viewer Syndrome but I'm not going to stay on this roller coaster if it leads us back to what this show used to be and I'm not going to waste my time if the "What's a Hula?" crowd gets to set the rules.

I find it ironic that yesterday PP dropped a couple of polls on their Facebook pages asking which couples people wanted to see advance but it never occurred to them to ask about the language before jerking their knees.

I'm sorry but Brooke discovering Laura's death on All My Children is one of the most classic moments of this show, and it certainly ranks over Erica's over-the-top throwing herself on Mona's grave.
