I'm not sure if we've always been meant to like EJ DiMera, but I've hated his ass for a long time.

I know RC wants everyone to love Sabrina, but she's such a useless, passive-aggressive, hypocritical twit. And I'm pretty sure we're supposed to like whoever this guy claiming to be Franco is, but he's not even worth straight up hate. He just annoys me.

Showkiller Guza sure wanted his audience to love his pet serial killer Jason Morgan.

I think we were supposed to like ATWT's Carly, but I could never stand her either.

Lord you about made me go into cardiac arrest when I saw this. I could not STAND Janet Ciccone. When Jean Passanantate said in one of interviews in SOD that the character was based on herself, I knew we were stuck with this b-tch till the end of the show. I too hated how they implanted Janet into Emma's kitchen and loathed her even more for implanting herself into Carly's life. When this skank married Jack, after much coaxing for that trick, Katie, I blew a gasket. She knew that Jack still loved Carly yet she still clung to him as much as possible. Love Julie Pinson. Hated Janet. They should've cast her in another like Nikki Munson or Ellie Snyder. Not that dullard ass Janet

On Another World:

Joe Carlino. We were supposed to "love" him because he was there when Paulina was grieving for Jake when he was presumed dead; however, I hated Joe. He was a hot-headed, chauvinistic pig that killed Paulina (spiritually) in the long haul. When he became police captain, I hated how he scolded and belittled the other characters; he was clearly drunk on power. The writers really tried to shove this character down our throats but I didn't buy it. I still won't buy it. IMO, he domesticated the once free-spirited, adventurous character that fans loved. I hated that Paulina ended with this loser instead of Jake. Joseph Barbara (the portrayer) was hot though.

Sofia Carlino. She was just TOO syrupy sweet for me and like her brother Joe, the writers did their best to force feed her to fans. I don't mind "Mary-Sue" characters when they have depth to them because some of my favorite characters are Mary-Sues (i.e. Viki, OLTL/Georgie, GH/Michelle, GL/Lily, ATWT/Amanda & Sharlene, AW/Belle--minus CR's abysmal interpretation, DOOL). All I can remember Sofia doing is whining constantly and being a pain in the side of my Maggie Cory. I was over the sweet, virginal Italian girl lusting after the bad boy (Nick Terry). Everyone pitied Sofia and I grew tired of her.

One Life:

John McBain. Even though OLTL was Frons least fave soap, McBain was his favorite character on this show, and he made sure this character stuck. I hated how we were supposed to pity him when he went into his "box of pain" (a la Jasebot on GH) and pity him when he was down on his luck. I didn't. We were supposed to root for him when he got one over on VictorTodd. I didn't. We were supposed to root for him when he saved the day. I didn't. Every year I wanted this character to die, and the one time I thought he did (during that bad car crash where they mistook him for Paige & Spencer's son), he came back to life. Ugh.

AMC:

Krystal, Marisa, & Babe. Didn't care for either one of grifters from the trailer park. Never thought that anything they did was with good intentions. Babe was not "love" for me (stupidest line ever). Hated when the writers tied David Hayward to them. Loathed when the town started to prop them after all the mess they called. Hated it when they'd turn on David at the flip of a dime. So glad that there aren't any traces of these money hungry h-es on the nuAMC.

I did. :P Carly Tenney is one of my favorite characters on soaps EVER.

Really? LMAO. I liked Julie on PC as Eve and on DAYS as Billie. I just didn't care for Janet from day one. I felt that she was written as a stereotypical Italian woman, both young and old. She loved to cook and give out advice when not warranted like the older Italian woman, yet she was loose (and IMO was a nod to Jersey Shore, which was becoming immensely popular) like a stereotypical younger Italian woman. I think that Julie shines when she plays the role of a vixen.

Janet was made too "salt of the earth-esque" too soon. I didn't want to hear her character offer advice to other characters b/c that was Lisa, Kim, Nancy, & Emma's job. I didn't want to watch her be the lead heroine either because that was Lily's role. Janet as a character just overstepped boundaries for me. She was too forced too soon.

OLTL -

Antonio Vega the second he was inexplicably paired with Jessica... they made each other intolerable, and the fact that two characters are single does not equal "instant chemistry" (AMC's Ryan & Greenlee, anyone?) - I know, that was Frons logic.

With the exception of Eddie Ford, a creepy villain I liked torturing people, and his "secret bitch" ex-wife, I couldn't stand the Ford invasion. The sons were irritating. But nothing was worse than James Ford. Selling him & Starr as a couple? Nic Robuck just could not play it straight. Many can (see John Wesley Shipp as Eddie), but not him. And those bumper promos of a greased up James working under a car's hood? About as believable as the porn storyline it resembled.

Other Fast-forward worthy mentions: Melanie MacIver, Vanessa Montez, Tico Santi, the third Paige, Donn Jeffcoat's Joey, and Krista Tesreau's woefully miscast (but thankfully short-lived) version of Tina.

AMC -

The second-coming of Ryan Lavery. AMC just kept trying everything, all the while insisting to viewers that everything he did was popular and that we just weren't seeing it - no exception was his chemistry-free pairing with Greenlee. From amnesia to milfs, from fight clubs to thongs, nothing ever, ever really worked.

Also FFW material: Ava Benton, Juan Pablo / Juan Carlos / Jean Luc, etc, Greg Madden, Josh Madden (the insulting plot being the major reason), Krystal Carey - moreso after her pairing with Adam, Raquel Santos #1, Camille Hawkins, Lee Hawkins, Jim Thomason #2,

Finally, I'm surprised to not see her already mentioned here: "TKFP" - Kit Fischer, aka Christine Montgomery, as played by the astonishingly devoid of any personality Paige Rowland.

I think my brain actually melted when that skank demanded Jack impregnate her cheating ass because Liberty was sick and could at some point need a bone marrow donor.

I couldn't believe how fast some people embraced her when JPiss reworked the character to throw her under Jack. I could never decide what offended me more---the boring clichés that constituted Janet's Italian heritage or how hard TIIC worked to assure us Carly and Janet were "really" the same kind of woman. Janet was just better 'cause she didn't lie. Even when she did.

IA---I think anyone could have played that loud, obnoxious harpy. I would have much rather seen Judi Evans stick around and be a third wheel to Lilden than spend the last two years with her stuck in Carjack's orbit.

Jackson on AMC was always a bore to me and dragged everything to a halt when he came on screen.

OLTL- Sam Rappaport. Hated him and most of his horrible family.

Y&R- Danny. True definition of a character we are supposed to like but I never did.

Days- I can't remember her name anymore but she was blonde and paired with Michael Easton and a drip.

GH- Angel, Chloe, Terri Brock, Tony Jones, Noah Drake, Jimmy Lee Holt, Dekker (except for his storyline with Felicia), Anne Logan. Lots of shitty 2 year characters have been on GH.

    • That's what happened with Hope Williams Brady on DAYS.  Started as rich princess, went to the police academy.   Became a cop.  Now consults for the I.S.A.
    • I know Curlee/Demorest tried to give Roger a conscience in regard to raping Holly, and Zas is magnificent in those scenes with Alex. But he kinda ends up blaming Adam and the fact he (well, really the writers) ignores raping Rita and being responsible for her and Ed's child's death make it less than convincing.  I do think during 89-93 they were careful to not whitewash his past with Holly, but his occasional bouts of conscience always seemed to be overridden by his obsession/lust for her. The only purely good thing I can ever recall him doing is helping Maureen during the blackout, and even then, had she lived, he would've found a way to call that favor in. I've kinda resisted saying it, but it's kind of clear to me Long was determined to have her own version of Erica Kane, and God help us all, it ended up as Reva Shayne. Although at least Kim could act. (Sorry LaLucci fans) Honestly, I'm not even sure CBS soaps ever a character as larger than life as Reva.
    • Regardless, I'd still like to see more episodes from the 80s...there is very little of Charlotte Greer, Kirklands and Greenberg's out there sadly.
    • A black family having a white maid would be a good subversion of stereotypes. Also want to say that while the overall show has many flaws, the biggest one that's legitimately stifling is the lack of a rival family.
    • I also do not like the bits I've seen with Delia during Labine's 83 return. I am glad when she came back for the last time in 1986, she allowed Delia to move on from Frank.
    • Thanks for the well-detailed reply. I'm fairly early in my viewing, so I have some time before it goes nuts. Thanks a lot! @kalbir and @DRW50 thank you so much. I am just approaching 100 episodes, so I'm good for now.
    • The Duprees as the main family isn't the problem, but the fact is that over 3/4 of the cast are Duprees.. so it limits coupling potential and also keeps the canvas too closed in. Too many female Duprees and no hetero, nor gay, male Duprees is also a problem.   I also agree with @DemetriKanethat the male characters are one note, and not very layered/interesting... outside of Bill, that is. To me, I would have focused on either Nicole's family and dynamics or Dani's family and dynamics instead of trying to introduce/develop both families at the same time.  Nicole's family is more developed and interesting with loads of storyline possiblities then Dani's family right now. And because MVJ and co decided to feature so many Duprees... we're less likely to be free of any outside characters like Ashley/Derek since they're the non-Dupree part of the canvas.
    • BTG: A B&B: B DAYS: B+ GH: A- Y&R: C-
    • I can not see Kat as a police officer and do not want that for her. Thats not her passion nor does she care about that stuff. The stuff with Eva and Leslie is specific to her life and wanting to protect her family. Her "detective" skills have more to do with her business background, which makes her very analytical and pay close attention to details. If this show had a corporation, she'd make a shrewed businesswoman and CEO I definitely dont want to see her sleep with her cousin's husband. That would be too much of a Hayley redux which ironically you dont want with the Sharon/Hayley theory
    • I would make Jan, Ashley's mom, Anita and Vernon's maid. It would lock in to why Leslie would choose to befriend both her and Mona. It also gives Ashley a connection to the Duprees and explains how she befriended Naomi. I would have had Derek start the show as a cop to explain his connection to Jacob. Kat needs to realize that she is MADE to be a detective. Have her go through police training, making the appropriate comments about the uniform along the way. Have her prove she is so much more than a rich princess, even to herself. Then, when Jacob's partner is proven to be dirty, Kat is assigned as Jacob's rookie trainee. At the same time, Naomi does finally get a case she can follow through on. Her client is a person that Jacob arrested. This puts them at odds because Jacob knows this person did it, as does Kat, but Naomi only sees the extenuating circumstances and believes he deserves a lighter sentence and a second chance. THAT is when Jacob will turn to Kat in frustration and she will lose her virginity to him.
