GH: Tony tells Bobbie that BJ is brain dead. Heartbreaking performances from Brad Maule and Jackie Zeman.

GH: Skye on the Witness Stand. Robin Christopher is at her best here. When she screams "It wasn't MEEEE, BRENDA killed Alcazar!"

and then "You miserable WHORE!" it's just spine-tingling.

and then of course the MOST dramatic soap moment ever:

Of course there are more, which I'll think of and post later.

-Kendall wheeling Richard Fields into the courtroom

-Stone regaining his sight just before dying ("I SEE you, Robin, I can SEE you...")

-Tommy throwing Dorian down the stairs; Dorian discovering Princess in the cemetary

-The will reading where Katherine left everything to Esther

-Storm's suicide

-Iris and Mac's explosive arguments ("I've been too indulgent with you."/"In-DULLL-gent!?!?... That's why you sent me off to BOARDing school in Switzerland while you ran around like a fool with all types of women!"... "She's TURNED you AGAINST me, Daddy!"/"IRIS! Don't you EVER. EVER. Come into this house again.")

Two scenes come to mind:

1) Jennifer's death on ATWT. All the acting was great, but the scenes where Barbara and Hal say goodbye to their daughter were heartbreaking soaps at their best.

2) Katie and Simon's farewell at the fence. These two could do comedy as well as anybody, but in this gut-wrenching scene, they were at their dramatic best.

One of my favorite little scenes which packed a big emotional punch was on Another Life, when Dave Phillips, who was the moral center of the show, upbraided his friend and fellow doctor, Ben, for leaving their free clinic behind and becoming more interested in money and power. Ben, reflexively, threw it Dave's face that he had no right to lecture anyone (Dave had once been an alcoholic and had killed his son in a drunk driving accident). Dave was crushed, and even though Ben immediately apologized, a wall of ice came down over Dave.

It was one of those types of scenes viewers could only understand if they knew and loved the characters, and it's something I really miss on soaps.
