Unpopular Opinions: 2012 Edition

I'll go first:

B&B

- While not perfect, the show is currently in the best shape it's been in since 2003.

Y&R

- Genie Francis is terrific as Genevieve Atkinson. I know she wasn't well liked in her first few months on her show, but I'm currently watching June 2011 episodes and I LOVE her campy take on the character, despite the overall wretchedness of the storyline. Although I never saw Francis on GH, so I don't have that to compare it to. I'd love to see her on B&B in a Sally Spectra/Jackie Marone type role.

- Phyllis is one of very few characters to actually flourish under MAB (save for the Lucy custody madness). And of course, I still consider La Stafford to be the best actress in daytime.

- Maura West was AT LEAST as miscast as Diane as Shari Shattuck was as Ashley.

Passions:

I preferred the actress who played Marsha Brady as Rebecca to Andrea Evans. I also enjoyed the second Gwen(whom I adore but due to alcohol her name is on the tip of my tongue)

Natalie Zea.

I think Maureen McCormick left early as she said she never intended to stay around longer than a guest spot and didn't know the role called for more (I'm not sure if she was having any of her drinking issues at this time). I can imagine the fun Reilly would have had if she'd stayed in the role.

Reread that Carl, it's Antoyne who's having a drinking issue at this time.

Passions:

I preferred the actress who played Marsha Brady as Rebecca to Andrea Evans. I also enjoyed the second Gwen(whom I adore but due to alcohol her name is on the tip of my tongue) more than Liza Huber and thought she had better mother/daughter chemistry with Andrea. I also prefered Travis as Ethan than Eric, who I never accepted in the role.

ITA! Maureen McCormick was PERFECTLY cast as Rebecca and I wish she would have stuck around in the part. She just nailed every line and while I love Andrea Evans, her Rebecca was way too OTT for me, especially after watching McCormick play it straight. I have to wonder if the writing for the character would have been different had Maureen stayed because I cannot see her Rebecca doing half of the things that Andrea's did.

DAYS

Eric is a much better Brady than Kyle Lowder was and has tons more father/son chemistry with Drake than Kyle.

Again, agreed, though I don't know how unpopular this is. I couldn't stand Brady when Kyle Lowder played him but I've grown to really like Martsolf's interpretation.

I think a lot of fans will always remember the golden days of Brady/Chloe and that helps Lowder, whereas Marsoltf has never found a niche in the role. I never understand the claims that he is awful and should be fired, etc. They just don't know what to do with him.

I hated the fact that this show treated Gwen like a big meanie because she had the nerve to be mad at Theresa's trifling ass for moving in on Ethan. Granted, Ethan wasn't even worth crying or fighting over in the first place, but Gwen was thrown under the bus time and time again for that cow-eyed heifer and it made me sick enough to stop watching.

YES! I rooted for Gwen throughout the run of the show. Freaking psycho Theresa!

The only time Theresa was actually shown as as the sociopathic crazy she was, was when LH was on maternity leave and the temp actress didn't use Hartley's(while very good) tricks at making Theresa seem like the victim.

surprisingly, thats the only time since the early Passions days that I loved her. Priscila Garita's Theresa really owned her bitchy, selfish, manipulative ways, in a way that LH's version never did

But Theresa wasn't a victim, Gwen was more of Theresa victim.

Yeah I don't think I ever bought Gwen as a victim. It might just be the fact that Hartley was the better actress of the two by far but Theresa was always the more viable character between the two of them. That said.

Days: I liked both Natalia Livingston's Taylor and Lindsey Hartley's Arianna for what they were. Days needed new characters and there was ton of potential for both of them with pretty strong actresses considering. They missed a huge opportunity to make Arianna a major player against Sami for instance and Taylor was needed to give Nicole some three dimensional qualities. James Scott also had a lot of chemistry with both actresses.

I loved Liz on Passions (but I don't watch that soap anymore because it was SO bad!). And I loved Rebecca too.

I think Erika Slezak and Bree Williamson were way too restrained as Niki and Tess on OLTL.

I think Barbara Rhoades was way too restrained as Irene on OLTL.

I liked Frankie/Jennifer a lot more than Jack/Jennifer on DAYS.

Martha Madison was the only Belle that I liked on DAYS.

I loathe that stupid Celeste character on DAYS.

I LOVE Liam on B&B! I'm one of those Scott Clifton fangirls.

I like Cartini's GH so far. I think the OLTL additions have given the whole thing a breath of fresh air -- and I was not really a OLTL viewer when it was on.
