GH: Classic Thread

Ah yes, Broadway legend Kelly Sullivan. That brings back memories I'd blocked out for a decade. I remember the devotees pushing and pushing people to eat that [!@#$%^&*] up because it was supposed to be camp heaven. Garbage.

I think we rehashed the whole Fluke thing just earlier this year in this same thread, but yeah, that was clearly Bill Eckert before Ron got mad people figured it out and then the medical delays from Tony Geary. That was all around the same time they had Luke saying stuff only Bill would have said, as Vee mentioned, and were randomly bringing up the old Eckert house, Jenny, and Julia out of nowhere for probably the first time in a decade.

Luke having DID was horrible and I think a poor story choice, but we won't get into all that. My personal feelings are that they still should have just gone ahead with it being Bill and whatever they had planned in regards to Julia and whoever. Who cares if the audience already had an idea, especially when it was so obvious onscreen.

@carolineg Connie's DID was really one of the worst things I've seen on GH. Bad all around.

In fairness, she wasn't his recast; Garin Wolf's crew (and I think JFP) hired her about six months prior. It was Frank though who was dazzled with her Broadway creds (given how many Broadway talents he'd worked with in NY theater at OLTL) and he and Ron went whole hog with Connie. Supposedly some kind of DID or mental illness story was on the books before they arrived, but it was Frank and Ron who created Connie onscreen. I agree the Connie saga of 2012 was one of the worst and most embarrassing aspects of that year, even if a lot of other stuff they did that year helped save GH. But no, his biggest flops - the return of the OLTL 3, Franco, Silas, Fluke and Denise - IMO came later.

I personally did not think Sullivan was bad as Kate initially when she first appeared. I was not a fan of recasting Megan Ward at all but I thought she did okay with straight material, before Frank and Ron fired virtually the entire longtime daily writing team.

Yeah, I knew Connie wasn't specifically Ron's casting or decision. I can see how the mental illness story could be in the works beforehand, but I think everything was rushed once Sonny was single again and Guza was fired.  I think maybe the bones of the story were vaguely there, but UGH...

I would like to throw in Kristina's recast and reality show nonsense into the ring as well....

She was awful, and I said so at the time and people got so mad! I realize Lexi has not covered herself in glory since (and that the recast went on to success on a CW sci-fi show) but woof I could not take Lindsey Morgan or "Trey," Kate's worthless long-lost son whose entire persona and storyline was a very, very lazy rehash of the already bad 'reality TV hunk' story that introduced the equally pointless Ford on OLTL.

I actually thought Lexi was great as Kristina, but looked young.  She still looks younger than Molly to this day lol.  I think Kristina/Ethan could have been built into something down the line though.  It was not to be.  I don't think NuKristina was awful the overkill of her being sexy/mature was so obvious.  Tbh, I don't recall the actor that played Trey's name, but he isn't any worse than half the people running around the show now as 'hunks'.

Yeah, I don't put a lot of the casting since FV on Teschner frankly. But I may be way off on that.

I agree Lexi was great in the early years but is messy now. Trey was played by Erik Valdez, who I believe went on to CW shows as well. He wasn't a terrible actor but he was mediocre and the character was obnoxious and pointless.

    • Good Morning, this is still funny to me but I totally enjoyed what makes up "DemetriKane" so unnecessary, who cares?!!! Glad you like the Emma Peel derivative story.
    • Christian Streaty penned today's Day's script. https://www.linkedin.com/in/christian-streaty/
    • Yes, they did.  I still have them.  I think there were three.  AMC and GH as well.
    • Ah okay, thats what I thought. I was hoping I missed the announcement somewhere. Thanks for the clarification.
    • A new day in Salem… and a new day for Days.  I like the way everybody found out and absorbed the news about John’s death, and how they all eventually found their way to Marlena’s to offer their condolences. I’m not particularly sure why they waited until the next day to tell everybody but I don’t really mind it.  We finally got Roman’s perspective! His scenes with Kayla were one of the best parts of today. I’m glad that Roman is thankful for everything that John did for his kids. I agree with posters who said that he should’ve had a scene like this with John, but I’m happy we got this at least.  Julie was used very well today too. She’s definitely the best person for Marlena to have scenes with at the moment. Hopefully, Julie continues to be there for her. And yes, I totally agree with Marlena and Belle sending EJ away when he came to the apartment. I’m curious to see what’s going to happen to his and Belle’s relationship in the aftermath of all this. And, while I enjoyed most of Brady and Kristen’s scenes, I still think the ship has sailed for them. Hopefully, the aftermath of John’s death causes Brady to finally end this thing with her once and for all.  And, I see a lot of people were wearing some kind of shade of purple today.

    • Wow, I love that current and former actors are participating in this. I barely recognize Staci Greason! She looks fine, just very different. But I will be happy to hear anecdotes from her. I shipped RoJohn and Isabella hard back in the day, and I sobbed buckets in my dorm room at college when Izzy B passed. Honestly, I'm interested in everyone's stories. Drake seemed like he was well loved among the cast.
    • When she first appeared, I was sure she was setting Tyrell up for a prank. She was too much of a manic pixie dream girl- I wasn't surprised Tyrell also became suspicious. Now I'm not so sure. If Jessica genuinely likes Tyrell, it seems like a missed opportunity to not have started her out as a bully, then we see her gradually catch feelings for Tyrell.  The McBrides are definitely the "C" family of BTG. They always get last priority. There have been a few times where the Doug/Vanessa/Joey characters reference off screen conversations which seem too important to not show us. Like when Doug thanked Joey for giving him extra time to pay off the loan. When did that happen? Or when we abruptly moved from Vanessa/Joey at Uptown to Vanessa/Doug in the hotel room. The McBrides don't even have their own set - even though Vanessa is a realtor. It's a shame because I am a fan of the characters and actors.

I am also adjusting to KR as Ted but I feel that AM and MJ had way more chemistry as father and daughter than AM and KR. We saw Eva dream of having a real relationship with MJ's version of Ted for months so it's a bit of a bummer not to have that payoff with the original actor except for those scenes in MJ's last episode.  Something I noticed about Eva today is how she takes genuine delight in being a schemer. As badly as she wants to be a Richardson, she still has so much of her mom in her. It was jarring seeing her earnestly promise to steer clear of Leslie in her scene with Ted, then immediately switch attitudes when her mom showed up.  I'm very surprised with how quickly the accident story has been moving along. I was sure that it would be months if not years before people figured out it was Leslie on the motorcycle, not to mention responsible for the potassium overdose. I'm looking forward to seeing how MVJ and Guza avoid writing Leslie into a corner.  Finally, I have been loving the Articulettes story. Bonita Brisker was just the right amount of OTT - remember Sharon is supposed to be even more angry than Tracy is. If Sharon didn't come in swinging, people would say she fell flat. The way Sharon and Tracy describe the breakup is so Supremes-meet-Original Recipe Destiny's Child. I get the sense that MVJ is re-writing the Return to Love Tour as a roman a clef, and I love it. I'm looking forward to finding out what the secret they share is. If Dante Green is as shady as Berry Gordy was, it's something dark. If/when they go through with the reunion, I expect Dante to show up and claim to own the Articulettes trademark in a Lou Pearlman-esque twist.
