"SuperCouples" You found Boring

DAYS

Steve and Kayla

GH

Sonny and Brenda

Jason and Sam

Patrick and Robin

Loved them from the start and still have a spot in my heart for them, even though these days I'm really loving Kendall more without him.

I loved this pairing and would welcome it with open arms again if we had one of the true Carly's back. The artificial, "Wright" one we have now...just no.

Oh, wow. This was a genuine shocker. They were absolutely wonderful together and even better apart--their love and longing for each other was amazing.

Ditto!

I liked Danny and Cricket less than all the rest but still...

I thought that it was more like a crutch, and the show often seemed to sacrifice Val's character so Gary could save her (Jill, Danny Woleska). Ted Shackleford and Joan van Ark were great together but the characters, not so much.

I think Val belonged with Ben and Gary belonged with Abby.

GL: Phillip/Beth, Richard/Cassie

GH: Sonny/Carly, Stefan/Katherine, Ned/Alexis

In the 'had chemistry but found them boring/could not care anyway' category:

SB: Eden/Cruz (at least not since JFP became EP)

GH: Sonny/Brenda, Jax/Brenda

I'm allergic to 'supercouples' in general (the whole 'supercouples'/'shipper' obsessions on daytime/primetime are my least favorite part of fandom experience) but I find them more bearable, even appealing, when they're integral parts of the show. It felt that way with Eden & Cruz when the Dobsons were in charge, but when JFP took over, it was apparent they were her whole and sole obsession and I resented the hell out of it.

It was an eye-opener (literally changed how I viewed soaps) when I switched from SB to GL in the early 1990s and realized you didn't need to depend on (super)couples to enjoy the hell out of a show.

The entitlement from supercouple fanbases (and i use that term loosely) ruined the genre. From the moment fans thought they could hold their respective shows hostage with campaigns to get their favorites together, and get catered to, ruined the true concept from eighties and early nineties REAL super couples.

scherre I hope you can post in the SB thread some, I'd love to hear your thoughts.

I was never a big supercouple fan. Looking back I think it may be what you mention - GL wasn't a supercouple show, not at its best anyway, and neither was ATWT. I ended up disliking most of their supercouples (Lily/Holden, Josh/Reva).

I guess I don't get the definition of a super couple because most of these I guess never struck me as such. Here goes

Days

Jack and Jennifer

(even though I loved their chemistry, they got played out)

Y&R

Sharon and Nick

GL

Gus and Harley

AMC

Tad and Dixie

Rylee

Zendall

GH

Sonny and Carly (did like Sarah and Mo) but the couple grew tediious

Lucky and Liz

Jason and anyone

And agreed. Couple fan bases have played a part in ruining shows.

I just hate this storyline so much. And I really, really hate when awful people keep getting rewarded for their awful behavior. Both in real life and in fiction. It’s not right. Say what you will about Sonny and Carly, but they’ve at least somewhat paid for their awful behavior. Not as much as they should but it was still more than this. How can anyone treat someone that they claim to care about so terribly? And then just not care at all about that person or what they did to them? Over at Days, I hated it when Ciara did it to Theo and I hated it when Craig did it to Nancy. But Joss is worse than the two of them put together. It’s like she not even human. I find her to be even worse than Carly. I know Carly has problems being a decent person too, but she would never treat the people that she says she cares about the way that Joss treated Cam and now to a lesser extent, Spencer and Michael. And honestly, I want Joss to suffer worse than any person on GH ever has.  I have absolutely no idea what the writers, or Frank are thinking with the way this storyline is being written. And do they seriously think that this consolation prize crap of Cam going to play soccer for Stanford (and Trina constantly reminding us of it) makes everything better? It doesn’t.
    • I hesitate to post Thompson, who is just a gleeful gossip hound. But this thread is instructive, even if much of it is stuff we all could've told the GOP and the NY Times six months ago.
    • Sure. They've been sent to live on a farm with other not gone actors where they can run and play.
    • From what I can find, Tim was datie Evie but got a job offer out of town that was too good to pass up and left in Nov 76. No mention of Pam and no reason I could see that a marriage would be mentioned later. I just checked Soap Central and there is an entry stating Evie left town and Pam and Tim were married. Not so.This is not the first false entry I have come across at that site. Someone takes delight at posting false info.
