April 18, 201114 yr Member [Robin Strasser] does have a rep for being a prickly perfectionist which she's mentioned. Like I always say, you can get away with being a diva if you have the goods to back it up. Robin Strasser has the goods. The most "terrible" thing she ever said that actually made me bust a gut was about the little boy who used to play Jack. On his first day he wasn't memorized and fumbling over his lines. When he was done, I guess his mother told him to go around and give everyone a hug. When he got to Robin she said, "No, I'm not giving you a hug!" (cast and crew within earshot: ) "Not until you come back prepared! " As rough as that may sound to a child, I get what she was going for and I think he learned a valuable lesson that day. Why coddle a child and "reward" him for irresponsible behavior? He wanted to be a professional, he should have come prepared like a professional, and it should have been up to his mother to see to it, too. If it had been my mother, she would have taken me home immediately and said, "You're not going back on any set until you show me you're mature enough to handle it!"
April 18, 201114 yr Member Why would Days and GH fans care?? Well GH fans but Days?? I think all soap fans should care about the death of a soap because today it is your soap, tomorrow it is mine. That said, to recruit GH fans would just lead to counter productive rants to sponsors demanding not that the shows should just air, but that head writers should be fired, and Jason Morgan should become a father as proof of quality.
April 18, 201114 yr Member I can't STAND Barbara Walters, but that's another story. I second that emotion.

April 18, 201114 yr Member My dad was telling me that he read that the ABC Chicago affilate is worried about maintaining their #1 status this fall. They had been #1 since the 80's, but NBC is not far behind. They carry Oprah and are worried losing her and two soaps will give NBC the edge. Another domino just fell.
April 18, 201114 yr Member I wish soap fans would have cared this much when GL and ATWT was canceled. I think there was some interest when GL went but a lot of that was mocked - it seemed like with ATWT there was more apathy. It's too bad. I guess it's because the P&G soaps were stranded. That said, to recruit GH fans would just lead to counter productive rants to sponsors demanding not that the shows should just air, but that head writers should be fired, and Jason Morgan should become a father as proof of quality. I think most GH fans would avoid that - most of the fans probably don't even care about who the head writer is. I think there's a way to keep it simple.

April 18, 201114 yr Member What is this, a scavenger hunt? It's not like anything is going to save these shows, Errol. Why not just lay it on the line? Exactly. The replacmeent shows are already in pre-production. ABC isn't going to waste a sh!tload of money on pre-production, only to revert their cancellation decisions. While I admire the fans and Hoovers commitment, it's simply a case of too little, too late.

I think there's a way to keep it simple. I think as others have pointed out, OLTL and AMC represent the modern era of daytime drama and were cultural fixtures in the 70's 80's and good part of the 90's. Post mid 1970's both ATWT and GL never really had that. GH I think will generate even more when it goes due to the whole Luke and Laura nostalgia.
April 18, 201114 yr Member I wish soap fans would have cared this much when GL and ATWT was canceled. First they came for Passions and I didn't speak out because I wasn't 12 Then they came for GL and I didn't speak out because I wasn't 72... so on and so forth. I did care about those soaps being canceled and I don't think I had ever seen a full episode before Nuke. I guess most people are indifferent if it isn't their soap, which sucks.
April 18, 201114 yr Member It truly cracks me up the way Hoover's gotten involved with this. They can so use this for a new ad campaign. "You think Frons sucks? Wait til you get a Hoover!"
