I guess what bothers me, beyond the strong potential for character assassination (I know some would say Jesse has already been ruined but this is a whole other level, potentially) is the possibility for sadism. Sadism is something that McTavish was totally unable to control in her writing and it just became pure hell.

I don't know if viewers really want to see Angie with this type of storyline. If you think about it, Angie has suffered for most of her life, and not in the soap opera glamorous way of a trail of dead husbands as she summers in Cannes or wherever. I'm not saying that it is sadistic for viewers to want to see this story for Angie, and I'm not saying that it's wrong for people to want to see this, because it's not, it's just drama. But right now when the canvas is already kind of short of a positive family unit, this might be what drives more viewers away, once and for all. And if the show is already ending, then the story would bother me even more, because what a harrowing note for such an iconic couple to go out on.

On the one hand, I feel this latest contrivance smacks of desperation on the part of the show and Frons.

On the other hand...? I must admit, I do get a tiny thrill in being vindicated. I said Dave and Donna were hacks when Frons hired them. If this ish doesn't prove it....

Fetus Boy was something AMC was ashamed off thus the quick dismissal.

On GH? yes, on AMC? IDK. I think they did a good job with Kendall's mourning the first couple of months despite piling on (shooting David, ticker dying, ambulance accident). This is a real death, not a David death, not even a soap death - well unless McTavish is back re:Josh, lol. I think it's going to have a lot of impact initially and at the end if they don't completely backburn it or make it about David or some ex from the past being a cartoon villain.

Really, nobody was expecting this. We were all expecting happiness on the backburner and some flakey sight back story, lol. Were we or were we not? Getting us to where we had no doubt about the baby and were maybe looking forward to it and taking it away, it does create that much more impact and drama.

I agree. There's a good thought process there but who knows what they'll do with it in full fruition.

I'm trying to think of a way Jesse can make it through this storyline without being very damaged and I haven't really thought of anything. I think it would have been better if the baby was born with some type of defect/medical condition and Jesse just lied about that for a while and then Angie found out, got mad at him but they ulimately dealt with it.

Or if the writers wanted things to be more dramatic they could have done a storyline where Jesse thought the baby had died. Like maybe there was an accident or a fire or some type of disaster where Angie ended up giving birth in the midst of and Jesse ends up saving her,but is unable to save their child (after the child is born). Jesse thinks the baby died (but we find out later that someone rescued the baby, maybe like a new recurring character, who be might be "off" in some ways, but who wouldn't hurt the child) and ends up taking the Maya's baby.

Because he was very traumatized and in some ways unable to handle the loss of his and Angie's baby girl. Maybe Jesse is so traumatized after what he thinks happens to the baby and worried for Angie that he has a mini breakdown or kind of loses it. And then he takes Maya's baby and gives it to Angie, letting her believe it's their baby.

Something like that might could make Jesse look more sympathetic as he's dealing with the traumatic way he thinks their baby died. And would show that he was unable to deal with the loss, and like Angie was unable to say good-bye to the baby. Then eventually Angie/Jesse could find out her baby was alive and get their back after Angie deals with Jesse's lie and after maybe Maya/the baby's father takes possibly takes Lucy back.

I think that maybe something like that would have made Jesse look more sympathetic and Angie/Jesse after dealing with a lot of drama and sadness could have gotten their kid back.

But with the way it seems like things are going with this upcoming storyline for Angie/Jesse, I could see Jesse coming out of this storyline looking pretty bad.

I think Jesse was far more despicable with the other family than here...

And while it is wrong for him to lie to Angie and keep the baby, maybe it won't look so bad since the baby has been abandoned... it would definitely be different if he went out and took someone's child but if the idea is this child was in essence thrown away maybe Jesse won't look too bad here.

Your scenario sounds so good.

I'm as conflicted as you are. I'm hoping that Broderick will have some influence here because I have no faith in these writers.

But I just keep seeing this anger that Jesse and Angie are being written as anything less then perfect and I can't get on board with that. Sure they could've given J&A a child with Down's but I don't know how that translates into drama worth watching on a show that has more kids than Romper Room. Not to mention that leaves them with no real interaction with anybody else. And how is that not "piling on?" (Honestly anything that happens to Angie as long as she's blind is "piling on.")

If neither Jesse nor Angie is allowed to do anything wrong or stupid, then what the hell are they supposed to do on this show besides listen to everybody else's problems? Or mess with David which only makes them look self-righteous and annoying. What story is there for J&A? They aren't going to flirt with other characters or break up the way Jackson/Erica, Tad/KWAK, KWAK/Adam and every other couple/character in their peer group has. They don't have any ex-lovers on the canvas so no drama there. Angie sure isn't going to work at Fusion. Jesse isn't going to go to work at Cortlandt, Chandler or the casino and since he's a cop, he's at everybody else's beck and call just like Derek was.

What story do these two characters get that's about them if they aren't allowed to screw up?

Honestly, it just seems like one demeaning storyline for the Hubbards after another. Jesse the bigamist, Jesse the impotent police chief, Blind Pregnant Angie, now Jesse the baby thief, sure to ham his way to the moon. I didn't believe Jesse could run around as a bigamist and pro for hire, and I don't believe he could do this. I'm with Dee. It is not an issue of "boring happy coupledom," it is not an issue of them not making mistakes, it is an issue of giving the couple a story that works without relying on stale, tacky dead baby tropes which were already as old as the hills by the time OLTL introduced little Sam Manning/Tommy McBain, or mutilating their characters to make those stories work. There are a million and one exciting things AMC could've done - including the aforementioned flirtation with someone like David. They chose to do something this gruesome and exploitative, for the umpteenth time. I don't consider that equality, I just consider it bad story no matter what race the character is.

It doesn't feel at all like that to me. I don't see why Frons would care if J/A have a baby and are put back on the back-burner. I think he'd prefer that, particularly the back-burner part. It feels more to me like they want to give the older, African-American veterans credible story and see if it'll help the show.

A big problem AMC has right now is that it's not fun or humorous. Humor was such a big part of AMC and while the show isn't as tedious as it was under B&E, it's still not that fun AMC. This won't help on that front.

    • Wow, I love that current and former actors are participating in this. I barely recognize Staci Greason! She looks fine, just very different. But I will be happy to hear anecdotes from her. I shipped RoJohn and Isabella hard back in the day, and I sobbed buckets in my dorm room at college when Izzy B passed. Honestly, I'm interested in everyone's stories. Drake seemed like he was well loved among the cast.
    • When she first appeared, I was sure she was setting Tyrell up for a prank. She was too much of a manic pixie dream girl- I wasn't surprised Tyrell also became suspicious. Now I'm not so sure. If Jessica genuinely likes Tyrell, it seems like a missed opportunity to not have started her out as a bully, then we see her gradually catch feelings for Tyrell.  The McBrides are definitely the "C" family of BTG. They always get last priority. There have been a few times where the Doug/Vanessa/Joey characters reference off screen conversations which seem too important to not show us. Like when Doug thanked Joey for giving him extra time to pay off the loan. When did that happen? Or when we abruptly moved from Vanessa/Joey at Uptown to Vanessa/Doug in the hotel room. The McBrides don't even have their own set - even though Vanessa is a realtor. It's a shame because I am a fan of the characters and actors.

I am also adjusting to KR as Ted but I feel that AM and MJ had way more chemistry as father and daughter than AM and KR. We saw Eva dream of having a real relationship with MJ's version of Ted for months so it's a bit of a bummer not to have that payoff with the original actor except for those scenes in MJ's last episode.  Something I noticed about Eva today is how she takes genuine delight in being a schemer. As badly as she wants to be a Richardson, she still has so much of her mom in her. It was jarring seeing her earnestly promise to steer clear of Leslie in her scene with Ted, then immediately switch attitudes when her mom showed up.  I'm very surprised with how quickly the accident story has been moving along. I was sure that it would be months if not years before people figured out it was Leslie on the motorcycle, not to mention responsible for the potassium overdose. I'm looking forward to seeing how MVJ and Guza avoid writing Leslie into a corner.  Finally, I have been loving the Articulettes story. Bonita Brisker was just the right amount of OTT - remember Sharon is supposed to be even more angry than Tracy is. If Sharon didn't come in swinging, people would say she fell flat. The way Sharon and Tracy describe the breakup is so Supremes-meet-Original Recipe Destiny's Child. I get the sense that MVJ is re-writing the Return to Love Tour as a roman a clef, and I love it. I'm looking forward to finding out what the secret they share is. If Dante Green is as shady as Berry Gordy was, it's something dark. If/when they go through with the reunion, I expect Dante to show up and claim to own the Articulettes trademark in a Lou Pearlman-esque twist.
    • Other than hanging out with Liz, all of Lucky's stories have been stalled out or dropped; the relationship with his son; his wanderlust. He hasn't been involved in any of the action/adventure or con artist stuff. I don't think he's even had a scene with Sidwell since the latter came to town. He's a real after thought. I doubt he's long for the show.

    • I started a separate thread for the same tribute, but of course it can be discussed wherever. doesn't matter where. • Seeing Nicole and Martin together reminds me of watching Alice with Mickey Horton in the 90s and 00s. The seem more like peers than mother and son.  The younger half of the cast (35ish and below) is playing younger, and the older half (35+) is playing older.
