December 15, 201015 yr Member <span style="font-size:120%;">The pressure on CNN's new primetime anchor Piers Morgan to deliver ratings can't be bigger - according to preliminary Nielsen estimates, 2010 will mark CNN's lowest rated year in at least 14 year in total viewers and its target demographic of 25-54 after steep double-digit year-to-year declines. More bad news for new CNN chief Ken Jautz: In 2010, MSNBC will beat CNN in primetime for the first time ever in total viewers and for the second consecutive year in adults 25-54. (MSNBC will also log its first ever demo victory over CNN in total day.) Overall, Fox News was once again head and shoulders above the cable news competition, drawing more viewers than its three competitors, CNN, MSNBC and HLN, combined. With its established series sliding and new shows, most recently Parker Spitzer, fizzling, CNN posted the sharpest ratings declines, down 34% in prime time from 2009. Its sibling network HLN was also deep in the double-digit drop area while Fox News and MSNBC posted modest single-digit declines. December 16, 201015 yr Member Well, this just shows the American public doesn't want news, they want opinion and chat shows.
December 16, 201015 yr Member I'm not surprised. CNN is boring and with the current state of the economy, political beliefs are even more polarizing than ever so either you're a Democrat and will tune into MSNBC or Republican and tune into Fox. And I'll never understand how a disgraced Governor can be rewarded with his own show so I'm glad Spitzer is tanking. There's absolutely no way Morgan will be CNN's savior.
December 16, 201015 yr Member But why should political opinion mean you don't want the news. The difference between CNN and those other fake networks is lets say a volcano erupts, killing millions in asia or europe somewhere. CNN will be there with cameras reporting. FOX and MSNBC will have their talking heads recapping what they read about it off the wires while airing borrowed footage from local TV. Sometimes I want a chat show, and sometimes I want the news. These talk shows that air from 8-11 are distorting the public's concept of what news is.
December 16, 201015 yr Member The problem with such pained nonpartisan posturing is that it can seem self-conscious and hollow. I also don't really want to watch a network that has stuff like this: http://thinkprogress.org/2010/04/06/cnn-gay-cali/
December 16, 201015 yr Author Member I wonder how the BBC News Channel is doing, apparently no one watches Sky News anymore:

I've always been a CNN guy for breaking news (though I haven't watched CNN for about 2 years now since I downgraded my tv package). I miss CNN.
December 18, 201015 yr Member Exactly. I've always been a CNN guy for breaking news (though I haven't watched CNN for about 2 years now since I downgraded my tv package). I miss CNN. But since you live in Canada, do you get CNN International or the CNN we get here in the states? There's a HUGE difference between the two, meaning CNN International is eons better and more thorough than it's US sister.
December 18, 201015 yr Author Member CNN International better? I find it horrifyingly terrible. Utter [!@#$%^&*], it just can't compare with BBC World, for example. BBC News, UK's domestic news channel, is OK, except on weekends, when it's a snoozefest, just like every other is, Sky has fallen, though it depends on the host, who can sometimes make a difference in the same report being repeated 24 times a day (actually more, they have that "bringing you the news in 15 minutes every 15 minutes" thing somewhere between 7 and 10 PM). Press Preview can be loads of fun, depends who is the guest. BBC News could add Newsnight and Panorama to its regular schedule. France has the LCI news channel, I haven't watched a lot of it so I can't judge. Italy's are completely forgettable. Edited December 18, 201015 yr by Sylph

December 18, 201015 yr Author Member P. S. I hate CNN's video wall, or however I'm supposed to call it, weather forecast.

It is a great news channel, although sometimes I have to admit I do not need the weather for Bangladesh.
December 19, 201015 yr Member I happily watch a balance of Fox and CNN. You couldn't pay me enough to watch PMSNBC. LOL Edited December 19, 201015 yr by Becki
