@YRfan23 You’re welcome! As for Kevin Andrews, Andrews was the the lawyer who Michael had to work as a paralegal for and report to as when he was released and looking to practice law again and eventually Andrews played a part in getting Michael reinstated to the bar.

I am not sure why Patrick Baker was mentioned either, Y&R gave Gordon Thomson a contract role yet did nothing important with him except be an additional lawyer and BAM just one month later he’s on Sunset Beach driving major storylines. Maybe Gordon Thomson’s character should have been a love interest for Jill, Nikki and even Katherine instead?

Ah thanks! I figured he was someone involved with Michael somehow.

I thought Patrick Baker also represented Danny during the custody battle with Phyllis unless it was the other way around?

Chase was doing lawn maintenance and romancing Nina.

? Chase who worked at Jabot? Or is 'lawn maintenance' a code for something else?

Jill bribed him to play pool boy at the Chancellor estate so he could seduce Nina.

Edit: I am replying to Paul Raven. I have no idea why it has me quoting Khan and it wouldn't let me delete that. Sorry, Khan.

Nice, that is pretty interesting - I didn't realise Paul's office was in Newman Towers. Wasn't it some dump of a place originally?

When I recall Y&R this is what I think of, (1) people talking to themselves in mirrors, (2) so-called contemporary stories about women, and (3) great music cues.

What I didn't recall was that John Considine originated the role of Phillip Chancellor II, or that Katherine had another maid before Esther.  And certainly this is not the configuration of Kay's living room that I recall, the fireplace is on the wrong wall, and there are no french doors out to the patio.

(BTW, I encourage anyone to join TikTok just to follow this creator who posts lots of vintage soap scenes.  As I've noted before I think full "classic" episodes are a bit boring, but I adore these bits and pieces.) (Also, gotta love those computer generated captions - "isn't Gil's dungeon today?")

Katherine had two maids before Esther - Theresa (seen here) and Ruth. Ruth is first mentioned around 1975 (I assume Theresa probably vanished around 74 or 75) Ruth was fired when Jill had originally planned to give Phillip to Kay in 1976 and Kay was going to sell the house and move to Europe. As far as I know Liz was her only employee seen onscreen until Esther showed up in April 1982.

Every so often, Katherine would tell Esther ' Have Robert bring the car around' I guess Robert took care of the grounds as well as being chaffeur.

Of course, there was Jeff, the stable boy that serviced Kay in 1974.

I know Y&R likes to repeat names (ex. David Kimble's mistress Diane), But it's odd that she had Robert as her chauffer, then they had her hire Robert who was involved in the Marge swap.

Wasn't Jeff played by either Ted Shackelford or Rod Arrants? I remember one of them being mentioned. I know it was someone well known.

Yeah I think Kay had a big list of staff on the grounds. I am pretty sure she had cooks we never saw.

Of course Jill had her own maid when she moved in around 98/99

Maybe Rod played him for a day and Sean took over after that, haha

Adding my thanks for the GC places post. A fun read.

I'd like to salute Mamie Johnson in this post. I know that she was probably paid well as housekeeper to the Abbott's but she sure earned that money.

Up early each day to prepare breakfast, then up to 4 beds to be made (can you see Jack or John tucking in sheets and I don't imagine the girls doing it either -maybe Traci (such a pleaser)

Washing/ironing and putting away clothes. Taking other stuff to the cleaners and grocery shopping. Keeping that huge house clean, arranging and supervising repairs.

Then preparing dinner and clearing all that up. Would it be 9pm before she was finished and had a chance to read a book or watch TV.

Did Mamie get weekends off?
