I think what sets SCTV's soap parodies apart from others', aside from SCTV's general level of brilliance, is their pinpoint accuracy.  You can tell they actually WATCHED the soaps they're parodying and aren't just going by what they've read in TV Guide or something.

Exactly.  The camera work and even the pacing are exactly what you would've seen on Y&R at that time.  Just as "Heys of Our Lives" really nailed how DAYS was all about the closeups back then, and "Days of the Week" resembled bits of AW and SFT.

Sharon & Nina have a scene together on May 23, 1996 (episode #5875) : "Sharon, I would like to take this opportunity to also wish you all the best" says Nina at Nikki and Brad's wedding (given that Sharon got married 3 months before). It looks like they already know a little each other, but I can't figure what occasion they could have first met. They are both present at the July 4, 1994 (episode #5403) party held at the ranch, but do not exchange any replies. Also a year later, while Ryan was present at this party, there is a scene of first meeting between Sharon and Ryan, in episode #5640 of June 23, 1995.

Chantal Lebasque's first appearance : April 18, 2000 (episode #6862)

Gary Garver -what a sleaze. Almost felt sorry for poor Brenda having to laugh along at his smutty  'jokes'.

"I made a film called 'Welcome To My Home"

Just classic Brenda along with a bunch of other nonsense.

I want to know how she has supported herself all these years?

She always begins these things with, "I was Miss California!"

If they dig any deeper, she (reluctantly) admits that she was "Miss California USA", which is evidently a step-DOWN from the Miss America pageant.

But if you look at the "Miss California USA" winners in the late 1960s and early 1970s, none of them was named Brenda Dickson.

EB from tvinsider:
When pressed to name something he wishes he could have played more in his four-plus decades, Braeden responds, “Well, I kind of regret that there wasn’t this ongoing relationship with Ashley [Abbott, Eileen Davidson] — that could have always been looming in the background — but other than that, to be frank with you, no. I have enormous respect for the writers because I would not want to do what they do.”

WOW.  Has he ever said that before?

    • To bring over from the May Sweeps Thread from @Chris B   I know the fashions have gotten mixed reviews but I actually like what the new costume designer is putting the cast in. It feels more modern and the more tacky pieces I feel make sense for rich people. They're buying for the brand and the price and we often see celebs in things like this. Especially for a character like Nikki, I feel the more over the top (and tacky), the more realistic it is.   I agree. While it has been hit and miss no question, I have found it fascinating to watch what the costume designer is attempting to do with the various characters and their clothes. Some have been overdue. Some have been fascinating. But (outside of Billy) not boring to watch. I definitely find it more modern as well.   My growing issue has been it's not good that the best reason to watch Y&R as of late has been to see what people are wearing rather than the writing. It feels like a red flag.
    • Haha. The fact that I stopped regularly viewing at the same time and know what you are talking about is chef's kiss.    I'm slowly bingewatching Nurse's Ball Week. But it's slow for me because a lot of the same tics and writing flaws for me that made me throw up my hands is still evident *cough*CVE*cough* Thankfully, there are some things I like also and from a glance in the GH May Thread, it seem like it had a good Sweeps with good fallout. And do I even need to mention Nina finally slapping the taste out of Carly's mouth? See? Regardless of her flaws, I do enjoy Korte-headed episodes over CVE-headed episodes because they always seem to have more emotional resonance to long-time fans.
    • And that charity does still get mentioned from time to time. I want to say the last time was some time this year, too.
    • Oh, no. Vernon has definitely had his moments.   Choose silence anyone?
    • Search YT for Edwyn Sanchez, he posted an AI enhanced episode of ATWT and it is beautiful.
    • That's so funny, that's how I listen to Montecito - while walking my dog. I'll have to check out Forever & a Day.
    • I need to listen! Forever & a Day was a fun soapy podcast to have available when I walked the dog.
    • A few years ago, Devon and Nick started a charity organization together, I think it's for housing in the community.
    • I’m hoping to start getting to know Vernon better this month. He’s really only been a bunch of noble and good tropes so far. I don’t want him to be taken down the way Ted has been, but it seems he was a long-running Senator and no matter what party you are, lasting longer than twenty years means you’re looking out for you (and not who you’re supposed to be looking out for) most of all. I want to get to know both Vernon and Anita beyond their Dupree posturing. Clifton Davis can sleepwalk handling the kind of material Christopher Bernau and David Lewis handled and I’d like to see more than just a saint.
    • I thought Emily/Hal was a really interesting pairing. And I think KMH played that version of Emily very well! It might not have been what people wanted from Emily, and the writing got pretty gross at the end, but I thought she embodied that character effectively.
