I'll agree.  I wasn't a big fan of Ashley Bashioum (by any stretch of the imagination), but she had a unique quality about her for sure, as did Tricia Cast and Vicky Rowell, and probably to a lesser extent David Tom.  (In fact, I'd go so far as to say that Victoria Rowell's presence on the show helped tremendously to offset the void created by the absence of Eileen Davidson and Terry Lester.)

Ashley was barely used in Brenda's first year. Things kicked off more for her in 1990, and I think this worked better for Brenda. She had settled into the role without too much heavy lifting and her acting style was definitely more natural by then. I think she understood Ashley a lot more by that point too.

In terms of the character. I have always wondered who would have been a better recast. Marcy Walker?? She was only a couple years younger than Eileen and had the drier tone about her and slightly harder edge, but could also do fragile as well. I do think Ashley could have sustained a year or so off screen, if a return with a big name recast or if Eileen had changed her mind and wanted to return.

With Steven there are too many variables. The biggest for me is, when did Eileen give notice? She has always said it was a long period and I wonder if she gave notice when she signed her last contract. If that was June 1987, maybe Bell convinced her to stay because of the writers strike. She made a movie around Aug/Sep/Oct 88 and was off the show for two and a half weeks right before she was set to depart. Makes me think she had never intended to still be on the show that late in the year and they came to an agreement. If she gave notice at any point in 1987, then Bell married Ashley and Steven possibly with his death in mind. It is also possible Rod was never going to be there as long as he was and it bought him an extra year or so.

The other, did Bell always want Victor and Ashley to reconcile and marry. Did he envision the marriages of Jack/Nikki and Ashley/Victor long before it happened or did it fall in his lap and he took advantage of it. The issue is Bell plays both ways so it is difficult to say.

I wish there was somewhere online that has all of the scans of Soap Opera Digest.

I want to read all of the interviews of Terry but I do not know which ones he is in except the ones where he is on the cover so I do not know which ones to buy. XD

Does anyone have magazines with Terry in them that they could scan and share?

Just was introduced to this article. I’m soooo hoping Y&R will follow suit!! Could you imagine being able to stream the ENTIRE series along with current stuff!?!? (I only care about 1973-84 tbh LOL). I’d like to know what you all think of this decision and if you think there’s possibility of Y&R following their lead in the near future. Mind you, their contract is up next year.

Let's don't overlook the most important line in this article:  "according to Fox News".

This article is merely a regurgitation of a Fox News article that completely contradicts the NBC press release.  NBC said subscribers to Peacock would get "the robust library" of previous Days episodes (which are episodes from the 18 months).  Someone from Fox News saw the expression "robust library", then read the Wikipedia article that mentions the show has 14,000 previous episodes, and jumped to a crazy and wrong conclusion.  No way anyone's about to digitalize 14,000 episodes for Peacock.

That's the interesting thought experiment... if Sony had to pick a time point from when to start making vintage eps available, what would make the most sense from a marketing perspective? Highlighting characters familiar to current viewers...

Perhaps starting from September '81... Victor first sees Nikki dancing at the Bayou...

or April '82... John Abbott returns, as now played by Jerry Douglas, and the Abbott home set debuts. Victor and Nikki are connected at this point, but this is when the Victoria pregnancy storyline kicks their story into next gear.

Maybe for 1973-1982 CBS/Sony could start with clip sets of the major storylines that set everything in motion for Y&R as we know it today: Jill/Katherine, Victor/Nikki, the Abbotts, then get into full episodes starting 1983.

    • I'm glad a lot of people are continuing to enjoy this show.

I haven't posted in a few weeks and have some catching up to do. But I did manage to look at the last two episodes after hearing about how good they were. I really enjoyed them. My thoughts on them: The affair/secret child reveal was very good. TMG was really good as Leslie, her whole confrontation with Ted/revealing all to the Duprees was very entertaining. I continue to love AM/Eva. She my top two favorites on the show (along with Nicole). I have a lot of sympathy for Eva and how she was conflicted/ultimately felt guilty about publicly revealing the truth to everyone. I wonder what will happen to her next, especially if she does go and live with the Doctor that is friends with Ted and Nicole. I lol'ed at how Martin/Smitty jumped up and grabbed Leslie when Eva was calling her crazy. The way they did that was funny to me. I haven't liked many of Martin's actions/his attitude especially regarding Smitty/his children, but I think it was interesting how he wanted to check Ted for his actions. And also wanted Bill to be questioned/confronted about his as well. I haven't been the biggest fan of the character of Andre, but I appreciated his calm and measured approach after the reveal and how he talked with Eva. I thought it was interesting that he knew about the affair and convinced Ted not to tell Nicole. Speaking of Nicole, I continue to love her character and view her as the heart of this show/Dupree family. I am interested in seeing where her journey goes as a character after this reveal. I'm looking forward to her leaning on Dani and (also Anita/Vernon, etc...) for a change.

    • Lol.  I love that this board still allows misinformation from a bad source.
    • Thanks @kalbir what a time to have enjoyed the peak of the primetime soaps. Haha you’re good. The only complaint I have with Lorraine’s death as I mentioned recently in the FC thread was it was overkill, and all we got Apollonia. If a pregnant woman had to be killed off, I would’ve chosen just killing off Robin instead in some freak accident or in the explosion at Richard’s to save us from us that disaster lol.    Did Hotel have a cliffhanger that year? I imagine if Hotel had been soapier we would’ve had cliffhangers like the hotel catching on fire or bombed by an ex-lover of Christine. Peter pisses everyone off and is shot in his office. Or a major Golden age star like a Olivia de Havilland shows and tells how she originally owned the Hotel and how Victoria Cabot & Laura Trent stole it from her but now she owns it etc.
    • The whole AMC 2.0 pulled it together in mere weeks to get a show up and running, with scripts and a cast.

Ginger Smith seemed really passionate about being in the executive producer position, and I think she really did a fantastic job in six weeks. It was just well done.
    • I totally didn’t pick up on that. Just perfect! I don’t get the Maurice Johnson hate around here at all. He didn’t take me out of the scenes at all. I understood everything he was portraying. It was great. I do wonder if there will be a personality shift with the new actor, whom I’m still not excited about. Exactly. Right? I’m in the exact same boat as you. Agree with most of this except I never found anything off with Ted, didn’t suspect a thing. I just watched yesterday’s episode and it was one of the best soap episodes I’ve seen in a very long time. I was enthralled the entire time. Just fantastic.
    • Yep! Very curious to see where this goes.
    • I was confused too, but I think it was always a "tribute thread" (this one and OLTL's were created when their cancellations were announced). They just changed the show abbreviations to their titles spelled out, I guess to make the board just a little bit more uniform. I was lost, too lol
