I imagined a story at some point when Esther talked about online dating.

She talks to a guy and they get along and eventually decide to meet.

Esther is shocked to see'Tiny' and he doesn't remember her at all.

Esther has to face up to whether to tell him who she is and that he has a daughter. Then you have Chole's reaction etc.

That might be good!  Which means, of course, it'll never happen; or, if it does happen, it'll be sunk the moment William deVry or Dave Coulier pops up as "Tiny."

Marla Adams and Melinda Fee look as if they're the same age.

If that were Brenda Dickson's Jill listening in on John and Dina's phone conversation, she'd just roll her eyes and her jaw would drop occasionally in amazement/disgust over the things that Dina were saying.  But Melinda's Jill looks like she's waiting for the two to wrap things up so she can go to the can.

Interesting read about Tracey Bregman’s time on the show as Lauren, including her describing her first scene and moment where during a taping Bill Bell saw her as the “bitch” on there, both of which I was particularly interested in.

Does anyone remember watching her first scene as Lauren?

I unfortunately wasn’t born yet so to this day I’ve never seen it. I so hope someday the full scene or episode pops up!

Can't say that I recall her "very first scene", but I do remember that she basically debuted as the "New Angela Laurence", a girl who could commiserate with Traci.  But while Angela Laurence had always been a sincere and genuine friend to Traci, Lauren seemed more shallow, superficial, and caustic, even without necessarily intending to be that way.  She definitely turned into a spoiled, entitled little shrew in a big hurry, and the actress was just right for that part.

It seems like Bill Bell kind of revamped Angela into Lauren? I know they were two different people, but obviously TEB just knew how to ultimately amp up the bitch factor.....which I'm guessing wouldn't be the case with Angela.

I'm curious about those first scenes too. I'm hoping for next year when it's TEB's 40th anniversary, we at least see a clip of her first scene like we did with Kate Linder's 40th....Unless the entire episode miraculously surfaces before then!

Yeah, the whole dynamic really changed.  Stephanie E. Williams (as Amy Lewis) took on the sympathetic aspects that Angela Laurence had been showing Traci, Lauren became a selfish Nellie Olesen from "Little House on the Prairie", and a character named Betsy became Lauren's co-conspirator and partner in crime against the sweeter girls.

Gosh, I haven't seen that since high school lol.  That's the way I remember it exactly -- whenever Traci would get even an ounce of positive feedback, Lauren would come swooping in, smirking and jostling her hooters around, opening her mouth wide to show all her plentiful teeth, and stealing all of Traci's attention for herself.  And you'd think Amy was on the verge of slapping Lauren's jaws, but she never did.

    • And if I remember correctly, at one point, they were considering having Linda Thorson play Opal's sister.
    • Interesting. Makes me wonder how the day to day looked for Secret Storm at this point in the run. This seems very to deal with the psychological aspect, I guess the "inner storm", and the music is almost sinister. If this is from 1974 there's not much room for dates it could've been from as it ended on February 8th.  It's hard to tell from an edit featuring just one storyline, but if this was the day to day it might've been heavy for the casual viewers.   ETA: Stephanie Braxton is credited to have appeared as Laurie from 1970-1973. David Gale is credited only in 1973 and Alexander Scourby from 1972-1973. I know IMDB isn't always right, but I'd say this is likely 1973 - I'm guessing all these characters exited before 1974 and this might be a part of their final storyline.
    • Well, they were both involved with Ray Gardner.  Then, the actress left in 1980, only to return as a somewhat broader interpretation of the character after Dottie was SORASed.  By that time, Opal had left in 1983.  So, while they serve the same story function,(verbally abusive/neglectful mothers who make you feel sorry for their daughters), one could argue that Edna was the carbon copy.
    • Okay, now it's my turn to ask about the Thorntons, namely Edna. Did she and Opal have any scenes together? I ask because I was familiar with Opal first, so when I found out about Edna, my biased mind saw her as the first try for that type of character.
    • There is no dispute that Jill Farren Phelps had a successful career in daytime based on longevity, but that does not preclude discussion and dislike of her decisions at various shows. Sure there may have been some misogyny involved BITD(we don't know as I don't recall JFP ever mentioning that) but the head of CBS Daytime at that point was a woman and there were other women involved BTS. I think that so long as an EP could deliver, or at least talk a good game they would be respected.
    • It surprises/disappoints me too that GL's ratings during '89-'93 don't reflect the quality of the show. But when I call it great soap, I'm not defining that by ratings either.  I'm probably in the minority, but I think Reilly takes something intangible with him when he goes. There's a sense of humor that just disappears in '93.
    • Ok, I know nothing about Another World except their catchy intro song from long ago, but this makes me want to catch!  That crazy mother keeping her son's girlfriend or wife hostage, wow!
    • And maybe Hotel could have been placed at 9pm Tues instead of Paper Dolls. Not that I thing it was a surefire thing but at least viewers were familiar with the show and it might have done better than PD. ABC's line up was pretty threadbare at that point. And with a big guest star to launch the season - Elizabeth Taylor- the numbers would have been there initially.
    • Any fan of RuPaul would dispute calling any of these examples “drag”. A costume?, A disguise?, A lame attempt at humor? -- yes -- Drag? -- nope
