The way I saw it was, when she took the extended maternity leave, the show moved on and she’s never been able to recover from that. Even her connection to Phyllis was mostly replaced with Sharon. Once writers started changing over I feel all hope for her was lost because she wasn’t a main character when those writers came on. The only decent thing she’s gotten in 15 years was probably when she had the miscarriage. I think she even got an Emmy nom for that.

I think if they were willing to write her a real story she’d do it, but being so stuck with Paul is also a character killer. She should be mixing it up with the major players not stuck with Paul.

I don't know if people ever saw this short film made with Jess Walton and Camryn Grimes (they play mother and daughter!) but it's very good! It's very dark mind you, but definitely well put together! I think this was filmed either 2004 of 2005.

OMFG!

Janice Lynde is a QUEEN!

I cannot believe that she has just shared extensive material (20 minutes' worth of clips) of Y&R from 1974, in honor of the show's anniversary. We get to see Leslie Brooks in the decrepit Detroit mental hospital, victimized  by fellow patients and degenerate staff.

I never thought in a million years that I would see any of this again. It is chilling and mesmerizing, and really illustrates how pointless and weak the show is in 2021, compared to what it was back in 1974.

I imagine that someone with computer skill and know-how will be kind enough and smart enough to store these clips in the vault, before it disappears from you-know-where.

One thing that I really appreciate whenever I get a chance to see episodes from this era of Y&R is the use of colloquial dialogue. As much as I love writing/hearing elevated dialogue, when it comes to seeing scenes that are supposed to feature people from everyday walk of life, a natural sounding dialogue usually works best. And it's so much more meaningful than the constant snark and one-liners that present day Y&R seems to prefer, at times.

The acting seems solid and the patients and "Brett" all seem terrible, but did they have to make the one black character seem so overtly aggressive? She was bordering on terrorizing Leslie!. Just oof.

Yeah true, I think if this show had been more diverse back then, such as characters that came later like Amy, Dru, Olivia, Neil etc.... this would not have seemed so bad, but when your only Black/POC character is a scary mental patient it is disappointing. Even in the 70's Bell and co could have been doing better.

    • I’m trying to think which actors VW were working with at the time, and none of them had been there for a while. Even like Mac and Ada didn’t have that big of a part in Rachel’s storyline.  And Jamie was involved with all that movie stuff.
    • Brooke did ads before ATWT too. That probably helped get her the job. After ATWT she seemed to branch more into hosting, along with ads.  I think I saw Kelley in an ad or two, but you're right she wasn't on as much.
    •   Thanks for sharing these. I wonder if Charles might have been in the running for Adam. I know Preacher was a bit of a bad boy at times on EON, but Neal seemed to be a step down, and Robert Lupone had played a similar part on AMC. Given the huge cast turnover at this point I wonder who thought they had been there long enough to go.  Laura Malone/Chris Rich would get a remote within the next year.
    • Interesting.  It seems to allude to that statement that Warren Burton made around that time about some AW actors getting special treatment.  I wonder who was resentful about not getting to go.
    • Good morning, boys!  I figured that it was time that our Gio was introduced into the hotness thread

    • Under all of Madonna's social media today there is this wave of negative, toxic, absurd comments by Lady Gaga fans telling her how Gaga surpassed her in concert in Copacabana. I mean... Who the hell cares? Why are these fan communities so freaking toxic??? I'm sure Madonna doesn't care... But still. Have some respect for M. Leave her social media alone. Go cheer Gaga and be happy. Why come and spew hate on M??? Crazy world.
    • FYI, again, Ruth/Letitia is not in either of these 2 episodes. So that concludes the 4 episodes I had from Nov. 1983. I don't have the October episodes.
    • Eddie has begun uploading the 1990 episodes. I'm so happy about that. I was mindfully taking a break till there's plenty of episodes I can binge watch when I feel like it. Now that 1989 is complete... I can't wait to press play on February 1989 and resume where I left off.

Me when someone asks me to be proper and demure.
    • This is just a guess but I feel like the fact that they keep mentioning her dead husband is for a reason. We know Martin has a secret that likely involved someone dying. Martin's victim could be Alan which Leslie/Dana either knows about or finds out and she uses that to blackmail the family into letting her crimes slide.
