What show are you watching?

Y&R IS demos focused! They do crappy sweeps stunts, they've sacked their vets for the younger cast, the writing is swift and sloppy, and the plots are some sort of hodgepodge between Sunset Beach and Providence, right down to Francesca Vargas and GhostJohn!

Bill Bell always maintained a young cast and it is time to begin flipping to the next generation. ATWT waited too long, had older vets in too many love stories, and went into crisis by the late 1990's. At least these younger characters are part of core families which so many shows tend to discard. I love vets but Bell was never shy about eliminating cast. As for the stunts, the Sarah thing was a mess but, aside from that, Patty was great and Meggie has really propped up Nikki. Y&R still uses vets and this is reflected with the ratings holding at 5 million.

I do agree about the writing getting sloppy but, even worse, it has become boring. The Billy/Victoria pairing is asexual as well is JT/Mac. Also, Nick, Sharron, Jack, Phyliss, Sky and Adam jump from bed to bed and it is rather gross. It almost feels like some sort of sick 1970's wife swapping thing and is really twisted. Also, Billy and Voctoria talking about doing it in Victor's office is gross and is somehow tied into the father knows best theme.

As for ghost John, he isn't really a ghost. John is supposted to represent the conscience of each character and serve as the 'Greek Chorus'. Also, many of us have had 'fights' with dead loved ones in our mind's eye. Also, the use of John reminds the longtime fan that the Abbots are still a family--young demo doesn't give a [!@#$%^&*] about John. LML made a mistake killing John and TPTB seem focused on somehow correcting that error.

Bill Bell had defined age groups, instead of aging every teen in sight and then blurring the age of everyone else unless they have their AARP card.

If you have to have your dead father show up to remind you then you're not much of a family.

Now all they need is to have Abby get an abortion and make out with that blonde American Beauty girl with the giant forehead, Jack kill a bird in rage (it's a homage to Patty!) and then have an aneurysm, Ashley get high with Kathy Bates, and Billy snort blow and perform sex acts on a gun-toting hitchhiker. Or did he already do that...

Will Goutman make it worse? They are sidelining Jill already. Katherine is all the sudden closer to Jill's offspring than she is, it often appears that she is the mother/grandmother of Billy and Chance. Don't they realize that Jill has been fighting against Katherine for the last 30 years to prevent this? If the end of the story is, Katherine succeeds in taking Jill's family as her own then erasing her, I want to quit watching now.

You all are acting like Goutman has been chosen to be exec producer or something. A director has no say over casting or SL, he just tells the chess pieces which way to move on the board. I think CBS is feeling guilty for cancelling his show, so they are throwing him a bone so he doens't lose his house. that's my opinion.

And you're acting like someone coming in to direct or consult doesn't mean anything down the line. This isn't unheard of.

What happened when Rauch came in as Executive Consultant?! He ended up with the Executive Producer gig.

What happened when Maria came in during the Writer's Strike? She ended up as Head Writer.

What happened when Lynn Marie Latham came on as a Co-Head Writer? She eventually took over the whole show.

And that's JUST Y&R!

You're right...it could only be to throw a dog a bone. But it all seems suspicious to me.
