I often wonder if the Stern/Black regime would look good in retrospect or if they really were as awful as their reputation.

were they less awful compared to what came in the final year? hard to say…

but, yes, they really were as awful as their reputation.

In September 1983, someone who worked at the Home Lines cruises taped some segments that featured the cruise line, along with relevant segments building up to the ship scenes. This isn't a period of time for the show I'm all that interested in,  and probably one of the stories I'm least interested in, but still, this is vintage, very rare material that we aren't getting otherwise, and I hope that Steve/Betsy fans or Meg Ryan fans (or just fans who enjoy staring at Scott Bryce) get something out of it.

(I don't even remember hearing about a portion of the Steve/Betsy/Craig saga that took place on a cruise ship - unless I just blanked it out due to apathy)

@DRW50 thanks for sharing. a brief rundown of that story.

 Betsy lyingly tells Craig her doctor wants her to go on cruise. Betsy does so to warn the cruisebound Steve that Vermiel is dangerous Craig joins Betsy on the cruise. Steve, on ship, poses as wealthy Daniel Bishop and tries to find out more about Vermiel.  Steve tells the captain of ship that Vermeil is planning to auction stolen coins.

So some plotty stuff about stolen coins with David McCallum on board.

@Paul Raven Thanks. I do remember reading about and seeing a photo of David's guest spot. I'm half-surprised they didn't try to work Stenbeck in.

I see Dominic Chianese in some of the later scenes. I never knew he was on ATWT. He really did make the rounds of the NY-based soaps.

(I didn't even know he was still alive - good for him)

Thanks! Never seen much of this period.

It was filler before Betsy popped her kid out and for the drama to start. The problem was the Dobson's wrote for 5 characters constantly, so they couldn't let this triangle slowly simmer for the pregnancy and give someone else something to do for a bit.

@DRW50

Thanks for posting it!  My mother and I were big fans of the Steve/Betsy/Craig storyline. I remember vividly watching it together at the time.

Thanks @DRW50for posting this video, I intend to watch this now. Just when you begin to believe the folks who claim there’s nothing else out there, something surfaces. I continue to wonder how many other pieces of archival footage are out there and under what circumstances would people allow them to publicly emerge.

Soap stars used to be outfitted so elegantly back in those days @SoapDope. I instantly recognized the iconic arches of Lincoln Center on the left. I spent a lot of time at the Performing Arts library.
