After departing AW as Cecile, Susan Keith tested for Betsy on ATWT in 81. Lisa Denton got the role.

Susan was a bit too old, although she would have been interesting to watch - she had that otherworldly quality Betsy probably should have had.

Cheers to @Errol for backing this one up, though it's been floating around: Allegedly, BTG wanted Gina Tognoni (Y&R, OLTL, GL) for Heather Armstrong a.k.a. crime boss The Impaler.

Man! Nothing against Ashley Jones but that would have been awesome!

In the latest episode of Soapy, Eric Martsolf reveals he auditioned for Ethan Crane [Winthrop] at the beginning of Passions, and the role was given to Travis Schuldt. And confirmed he did audition for what did become Rafe Hernandez for Days of Our Lives and was one of seven men who auditioned for that role.

Did they even LOOK at Hispanic actors for that role!?

No clue. My guess is they didn't have a specific type they were looking for, especially if both Forbes March and Wes Ramsey also auditioned for the role. And it is worth mentioning that Gering is Spanish/Basque on his maternal side.

God bless him but Travis could not act back then and Eric can. I will never understand why people run that man down so much, he's fine and can perform.

Auditioning him for Rafe is insane though lmao. And Forbes March?? What would Corday have done if someone like Kamar or David Fumero had shown up at the audition, called security?

I think Travis fit the role a bit better - his Ethan is believable as a very sheltered and dumb guy to help sell the whole triangle from hell and help sell him as the scion of the frou frou Cranes as they were originally intended. Eric is fine but is more of the generic daytime stud.
