Good grief, those ratings are horrible! Just goes to show you, don't believe ABC press releases. Those numbers are nothing to brag about.

GH can't pull a single 2.0 anymore and summer hasn't fully started yet? I doubt Franco returning will help much. Spoilers leading us to believe there are a few breakups on the horizon just means more disappointed fans. I hope they have a plan to turn the downward trend and aren't just hoping for guest stars to save the show.

Why were the Thursday episodes of BB & YR counted since they were impacted by the Obama news conference pre-emption? Who makes the decision as to whether a show that has been partially pre-empted counts in the ratings?

Let me be clearer--I in no way think CBS is worried about a daytime ratings crash; however, I would still love to see it happen. If anything, LM is probably hoping for the crash and already has a plan in place for daytime. Since the break with Viacom, CBS is under great pressure and I'm sure Mooves is looking into some innovative means to cash in on daytime. Personally, I think he will copy the cable model and repurpose top prime time shows: repeats of Cold Case are currently out ranking ATWT.

As for the issue of demos, I understand why they are important; however, most of daytime is basically tied in 18-49 with AMC only garnering slightly more ad revenue than ATWT. A few ratings points make little difference and I think way to much focus is being placed on .2 points.

With the development of DVR and Google TV, all networks, whether broadcast or cable, will be airing less and less new content. There are already too many shows for any viewer to watch and this means the era of a full-service network is dead. I expect, within ten years, that we all will be downloading shows very much in the way we do songs from the iTunes Store. The real question is whether there are enough viewers to keep the 'special soaps' alive during the switch. I could see a cable network picking up two or three shows due to the low production costs. Days is damn cheap to produce and has more viewers than Mad Men save the good demos. Actually, I could see the soaps being a great fit for something like Ion TV--not every network is striving to be number one and are happy to settle for smaller returns.

It's wishful thinking on some people's part. All that junk about OLTL going before AMC has absolutely no basis to it. I'm not just saying this as a OLTL fan. The simple fact is no one at ABC has ever said such a thing. It's all rumors from certain sites and some ex-fans.

It's what you say Carolyn1980. OLTL is the cheapest show for ABC to produce. Even though the ratings looking bad to us, they are basically the same across the board for most shows. OLTL is pulling the demo so yes, it comes down to the dollar.

AMC had Erica defeating a bear, Erica chasing Nazis, Janet, Natalie, and the well, Gillian's months as a ghost, Jamaica, Santa Claus...

The problem isn't unrealistic stories so much as poorly done unrealistic stories. Viki going to Heaven or Janet putting Natalie in the well >> plenty of attempts at realism AMC or OLTL have tried.

Is OLTL still the cheapest show? I keep hearing how good they are with a budget from fans of the show but I haven't seen where they're getting that info. I know there was talk years ago about Valentini's talent with money but the point of moving AMC was to cut costs and now OLTL is doing stunts like the snowstorm and the musical which must've cost a fortune. Do we know how the budgets are now?

Of course the influx of teens and newbies probably helps keep costs down.

CBS shouldnt have counted Thursdays B&B and Y&R. Just goes to show they dont even care about their soaps.

Go OLTL!!! Only soap to go up from last week and last year and tying GH in Frons favorite demos. Lets just say Frons didnt get much sleep this weekend. GH needs to wake up before its too late. It can only get worse.

I think it's the opposite -- they are not obsessed with a single day or week of ratings. So what if there was an impacted episode? Honestly, as disappointed as I am about ATWT being cancelled, if ATWT & GL were on NBC or ABC, they would've been canned at least five years ago.

It's kind of sad but not surprising to see almost all of the soaps stuck in this 1.8 swamp of mediocrity. I wonder if they're ever going to spread out again or will they all just shift the same 100,000 - 200,000 viewers between them. I miss MarkH's graphs.

I didn't realize that that one premption would affect the other four days

I thought it would just affect Thursday not the whole week.

I just don't think that it has a lot to do with the trend these shows are hitting the onesies more often than not

premption doesn't have anything to do with that. And that some got the same #s and it wasn't on Thursday...

I disagree, they did the right thing. They lost 371,000 from Monday to Tuesday, lost another 136,000 from Tuesday to Wednesday, on Friday they gained back 345,000 with the same 3.3 rating as Wednesday. I think they know it wouldn't have made a lick of a difference.

Damn, they dropped +.3 from Monday to Tuesday, that should have been one of te strongest day. I swear the trend these days is Monday starts of strong and then people just tune out by the end of the week.

    • I'm anticipating most of the cast at the Nice location for a few weeks a la the Tuscan villa for Victoria and Ashland's wedding. I don't know why they bother. I'd rather see the money going into more regular home/office sets. This party has been a bust. No secrets revealed, break ups  etc. Ugly decorations and I'm going to slam the costuming again. Just the guests heaping praise on  Nikki  like she's achieved some magnificent milestone rather than just getting a year older.

In the loving arms of his wife, Dr. Marlena Evans, John took his last breath at the end of the June 2 episode, after suffering devastating internal injuries during a lab explosion. The iconic character went out as he lived — a hero. Sensing the fans’ devastation on Monday, Marlena’s portrayer Deidre Hall posted this simple-but-powerful message to fans on Instagram: “I know. I know. Hardest day ever.”

    • Now coming into June...well...   I knew it was coming but I didn't like the start to the next round of Dani/Bill/Hayley. As the 3 A plots from the start of the show (The SilkPress storyline and Martin's Secret being the other two), it needed to be benched for a while to develop those characters and allow other characters and storylines to grow. 3 months in, Hayley is the weak link, Dani is still divisive, but not boring, and Bill has been making his mark with some plots faster than others. So last week seeing the story starting to loop back around to them with Hayley's potential pregnancy, I honestly had mixed feelings.   I get it. The SilkPress storyline is currently in aftermath/next turn mode, so it has to be moved into a C plot position. Moreso if we want to keep the very talented Miss Trish around. And I love how clever the writers are being with the storyline. They give us enough in the episodes and are still playing out beats to keep the appetite fed. I don't feel like anyone is being dumbed down to keep her around. And Trish is giving nuances in her alone scenes with NuTed. I shouldn't care for a clear psycho, but she be selling it. That said...I wish they had given us a little more of the Martin's Secret storyline in the last week of the month though I loved the game of cat and mouse Bill did on Martin and Smitty to keep the storyline alive and active after it had a nice build beginning of May and vanished for a week mid-May. And it appears like it's about to go back to the backburner as an A plot which of course leaves the A plot of Dani/Bill/Hayley.   I am probably in the minority as someone who is not anti-Dani here and even she annoyed the heck out of me last week. In character true, but I just felt like there was a way to get all of that across without it feeling like...as I've said before...one step forward, two steps back...and have it feel organic. I liked Hayley got a little bit of edge with her, but she still ain't no match for Dani. And it reminds to be seen if we should be going back to that well of a story yet.   Now about today's show...   And I thought Tracy was bad! lol. But YES. Sharon has been worth the wait. And so has Anita's story! Finally having TT in the limelight. This has been a nice slow burn for me and a nice B plot. And the actress is good. The wig is giving. And her holding what Anita's secret is over her head and threatening to tell Vernon....Ooooo...that is what I was waiting for.    And speaking of bad...I thought Eva vs Kat was a great rivalry. But I am loving the rivalry that is growing with 'Nancy Drew' and Silk Press Sheila! They both get good licks in and are so cunning with each other. And I definitely have liked that since the anniversary party, that it has been growing. Now that Kat has been proven right, she has not backed down. And neither has SilkPress. And we got a 'Ms. B@tch' moment, too? LOVE. Eva coming up with a trump card was delicious and so 90s Sami Brady. GOOD. And the coda with Jacob and the expert...YES. The Silk Press storyline has been the best paced on the show so I love that the aftermath of the anniversary party continues to be so...barring one flaw...well for me. Not enough Nicole's POV.   And I like the C plots on display. And by that, I mean Chelsea with Vernon. And it made me wonder what the writers have plan for her love life now that the throuple is over with. I was watching her and going awww.   And of course the mystery man around Martin. I am starting to wonder if he really even works at the country club given how he made a run for it. That would be a twist.    Speaking of Martin...good to see him in scenes with his father and mother.    I'm getting used to NuTed.    I felt the last episode of May was a bit of a letdown, but this was a very nice recovery.
    • Unless they cut him, I'd think he would stay. Surely, he didn't choose to return because he expected high quality. I figure he gets to work when he wants and spend a lot of time doing his own thing and being with his family.
    • The writing for Liz and Lucky is indeed terrible, but if JJ signed a one-year contract he may be gone in a couple of months anyway. Perhaps they’re just cutting their losses.
    • That would be his older sister Stacey. She was the center of a big story back in the day. Nola was out to snag medical student Kelly Nelson, who she thought would provide her with the life she craved. He was in love with a girl named Morgan. Nola plotted to get pregnant by him, but couldn't manage to get him in bed. So she seduced Floyd, who thought she was in love with him. When she knew she was pregnant, she got Kelly drunk and made sure he woke up next to her in bed. Kelly believed her when she told him he made her pregnant. They were about to elope to Las Vegas, but her mother ratted her out and Kelly abandoned her. She almost married Floyd, but jilted him at the altar. She went to work for Quint. When the baby came prematurely, Kelly saved both of them. She named the baby Kelly Louise to irk Morgan, who was now married to Kelly. When she fell in love with Quint, she had a change of heart over all the trouble she had caused, so she changed the baby's name to Anastasia Louise, shortened to Stacey. Quint was a devoted stepfather and Henry treated her like his own granddaughter.  After Quint and Nola leave SF, I believe Stacey is never seen again. Which is odd, you would think they would have brought her back with Nola and J, but they never did.
