He disliked the storyline and thought it had to end.

It seems like contemporary opinion was not nearly as kind to Marland's GL as it was to his GH or ATWT, from fan letters and things at that time. I can sort of see why, although some of it's good.

Also, rumor has it that Jane was not beloved by the cast....JVD did not want to work with her anymore, and the rest of them thought she was just a biotch..

Marland wanted her to go through therapy...can you imagine, it would be like the Iva Snyder therapy sessions...AGGGHHHH.

I recall Jane signed a 1 year contract and obviously Marland was sure she would continue but Potter used it as a way to dump her.Maybe budget had something to do with it as P&G were starting their cutbacks and ridding themselves of pricey vets. Jane probably had a raise in pay if she signed to a second year.

After Jane Elliot's dismissal, it was reported that Allen Potter felt the ratings during the initial part of the Carrie Todd story did not justify the saga continuing. This angered Douglas Marland, who had had additional plans for the character. While ratings do matter, I am a firm believer in allowing writers like Marland the freedom to write as they see fit. In any case, during the 1981/82 season, in which Elliot appeared, TGL had a rating of 8.0. This was quite healthy, considering the show was pitted against GH, which was a cultural phenomenon and the center of so much hype and media attention at that time.

After Marland left the show, I had high hopes for Springfield when the great Pat Falken Smith took over the writing reigns. Upon her abrupt dismissal, however, the bottom simply fell out and the show went into free fall. The annihilation of the Bauer family, the gutting of numerous vets, and the noticeable changes in the series' style and tone were harmful to TGL, and made all the worse by a revolving door of writers, and by unfamiliar faces parading across the screen. By the 1989/90 season, TGL's ratings had plunged to a precarious 5.4.

The 1980s were not the best of times for TGL. As a decades-long viewer, I would have eagerly accepted  more Carrie Todd over a screaming Reva any day.

    • I almost posted this because that was my initial reaction too:  this is weird/cringe, to sing around a piano after such a huge family shattering bomb was dropped.  But I got over that and just enjoyed her voice, the song and the montage we saw as everyone's emotions in the aftermath were pouring out.
    • The Equalizer original series was not a big hit yet it became a movie franchise and got a reboot series. The Equalizer reboot lasted 5 seasons, so one season longer than the original series.

His social media/IMDb doesn't have his age but from some posts he's made, I'm guessing 1989 is his birth year.
    • Here's the timeline, as I recall it being published. The WGA strike was 5/2–9/27/2023 Annalynne McCord was announced as being hired in December 2023, for a one-year contract https://deadline.com/2024/06/days-of-our-lives-when-to-expect-annalynne-mccord-peacock-1235975806/ RonC's first scripts back from the strike began airing May 31, 2024 (around Konstantine & Maggie's wedding) https://www.tvinsider.com/1137709/days-of-our-lives-writers-return-15000th-episode-storylines/ Her first air date was June 19th 2024. The actress has said she was not told who she would be playing until she started taping. RonC 's replacements were announced July 2024, with his scripts airing through April 2025 Side note: DAYS social media team seems to be playing fast and loose with BTS videos, in terms of how far in advance they film content (e.g. their April Fools' Joke videos were clearly not filmed on 4/1/25), so we shouldn't assume anyone's current status, versus those who were there nine months ago.
    • April and her husband (Draper) are the "young leads" who tie all the storyline threads together.  They're normally in the center of the action.  In this particular storyline, Draper is the attorney who represents Paige Madison.  (The district attorney, Logan Swift, has given Paige Madison "temporary immunity from prosecution" if she will lead the police to the members of the Tobias Gang who stole the firearms.  But Paige mainly just ducks bullets from various gang members who pop-up to assassinate her.)
    • It's one thing to post about a soap's rumors or gossip, which in point of fact we've all done. It's another to present yourself as the inside source who knows something to be fact that's about to break wide, then backtrack and call it just Twitter speculation. Between those two extreme poles you have to commit to one or the other. If I got something wrong, I'd say it. (Nor would I keep playing insider after what I pulled with Drake Hogestyn, which should've gotten someone permanently banned.) And regardless, you don't open with this 'news' you don't actually want to stand by yet by mocking DRW's extremely valid concerns re: how the Trina character and Tabyana Ali has been marginalized and put out to virtual pasture ever since the day NAC left. Her playing out her current contract in a C-storyline with Kai does not change that.
    • Yeah, I thought it would be more explosive or heated and it was kind of standard.  Both can do more with the material.  I just don't think the writing was there.
    • Daphnée and TMG are on Instagram live (as we speak) and are saying they don’t know why Maurice left.
    • Anita let SilkPress know what time it was!
