When the window broke I thought MJ threw a brick or something...but then they cut to the dead bird. LMAO!! That was awesome. MJ rules. MJ has another good scene at the end of tomorrow's US episode.

Someone really needs to lace this soap into a tight corset: a vast armada of completely useless, screen-devouring, terrible characters (& actors) needs to be severely cut, stories which go on forever loosing impact and momentum need to be re-structured and even re-written.....

Care to give some specifics, Sylph?

The overall tone of this show needs to be revamped and diversified.

I disagree. I love the tone right now. I love the twisted darkness.

This was one of JM better days I could see more of an attempt to connect but man what a confused pathetic wishywashy mess the writing has made of Nick. "I still have feelings for you"- "it doesn't feel as bad now as it did earlier" uuuughhhh somebody stop the cheap dialogue within this near annoying story.

Finding the good in this episode I otherwise loved NIKKI and ADAM and ASHLEY today.

He said as bad as he felt "10 minutes ago". I took it it mean his reflection/confusion re: Phyllis. Maybe you meant that too, IDK.

If MTS leaves this show, I am going to scream. For me, it's not about needing, it's about wanting her on the show.

I actually LOVE the new Summer, at least she doens't sit there like a wet dishrag. And Alvin... the comment you made about Y&R being "Passions-lite" right now is really not a fair assessment at all. I realize passions is all you have to compare it to, being too young to remember the bulk of the shows from the 70's and early 80's. Actually this show is quite Edge Of Night right now, which isn't neccissarily a bad thing, I always thought if Edge Of Night had the production values and quality direction Y&R had, it would have lasted much longer.

As a die-hard fan of The Edge of Night, I'd have to agree!!!! I actually didn't notice it at first until you pointed it out. Y&R is definitely not playing like the love/romance/everyday life type of soap that it's always been known for. Psycho villains (Adam, Mary Jane), criminal thugs, mystery (the art storyline AND Cane talking to someone with the face of a supposed dead man). EON was very much like this (although EON was still much darker).

Oh I stand corrected thank you. My point really is that each of these women get to listen to this man's sad story about how things are so messed up because he's in love with the other woman. With Phyllis it is "Sharon,Sharon,Sharon" with Sharon it's already "Phyllis Phyllis Phyllis" This is a tired beat. Now we're going to get a double dose Sharon to Jack as Nick to Phyllis, honestly between this and the holes in the Adam-Ashley story (the good thing here is I still enjoy certain scenes even with the idiocy of certain plot points),

the incest Tyra/Devon crap coming

the art story, the only interesting story arc left is MJ (they might mess this up), Chloe& Billy both together and seperate (have a feeling they will mess this up too, not really caring for Billy/Mac), Jill-Nina-Kay (of course theere are too many opportunities for them to mess this up)

For example, cut cr*ppy romances like Lily & Cane and the never-ending, freakazoid Nick/Sharon/Phyllis, fire horrible actors & useless characters (Khalil, Bloom, Sursok, McLure, Rikaart, Graziadei, Marcille... Stafford needs to take a break, but never gonna happen, right?)... No more art, no more killings-for-killings-sake (actually, make that no killings at all)... And so on.

But that's the thing: Y&R is not "twisted darkness". Some other show — yes, Y&R — not so much. Y&R is business intrugue, angst, lots of sophisticated sensuality... But no dark, creepy, schizoid stories.

I like the tone right now too. The only story that is awful is the painting/drawing forgery crap. Alvin has been so moody lately. :lol:

Right, and I wouldn't mind twisted darkness if every storyline wasn't in that particular vein. This show is missing it's heart. It's like GH without the mob and with historigasms - hallow and emotionless.

Adam's blackmail is so pathetically weak, plot-driven, and stupid. I mean, WE SAW SYKE on-screen a year ago, there was never any letter or any hint of her being sexually assaulted or coerced by any Harvard doctor. I guess they figured that since they killed Skye a year ago, it would be OK.

I wonder if tptb are thinking that they need to recast Victoria because I read that they want to hire Gina Tognoni for the role. Thou this is just a rumor.

Did anyone else want to hit Victoria when she went on about how she had to go undercover for principle or something like that?

I'm not an Amelie hater but to me she did sound tired, but that's just me.

I wish they would put JT back with the younger crowd.

Agreed, I think Blake became a woman who learned from her mistakes and grew up. I too wanted them to be the core couple after the Tori thing, as a matter of fact, around Wheeler after Simon left I wanted them to move into the Bauer house..( I would have Blake say that this is the closet thing she knew as a home )SORAS the kids, and bring Sam back..Dinah would have a very contentious relationship with her, as she would be jealous of Ross and Sam's relationship, and Blake and Dinah would have that tension (ya, know cause she killed his brother) it would be a core family that had some fissures leading to good drama. But now, Wheeler and company though the Coopers should be the core.

Agree that great minds can think alike :)
In terms of Derek, I see the show doing one of two things based on the most recent episodes that featured him.
1) They do the gradual fade-out of the character until he stops appearing and is occasionally mentioned by Jacob (i.e. still living and existing in town, just not being seen). We saw some evidence with him having a group of co workers he's friends with, plus a female co worker interested in him... so possibly we see him regain his walking and go back to his life with the Fire crew and eventually we stop seeing them on air.
2) His mentioning to Jacob that he hopes to win Ashley back signals that perhaps the dark side we saw glimpses of has been hidden and will rear itself if she appears to be moving on with a new guy.
In terms of Ashley, the show seems committed to keeping her character on the show especially since she was shown in the Thanksgiving episode having a quiet day with Jan and Mona as they discuss Black Friday shopping, food, and other day to day matters... so I think delving into her backstory in terms of who her father is would be a good place for the show to go while keeping her as a good friend to Naomi, Shanice, and a good nurse during medical stories.
Perhaps one of the children of the handsome new doctor could be her love interest down the line.

Re: 1978. I'm glad the unedited version of the episode complete with commercials is available. The one that has been posted several years ago had several segments missing. I like Barbara's long hair here. Dr. Steven Farrell didn't last very long I take it since she is re-connecting with Tom (Tom Tammi) by 1979. The actor playing Steven (Phil Peters) was the real-life husband of Lenore Kasdorf (Rita GL).

Oh, how I wish we'd gotten to see Ross deal with his teenage sons. I loved his relationships with Phillip and Sam, but he really deserved to be seen with his own kids (other than the horror that became Dinah). The boys simply disappeared off canvas after either the Nursery Stalker or the affair with Tori.

What I liked about Bloss is that I liked how they grew to be the stable couple- the closest to an Ed and Mo in their prime. Especially after the Tori story when their extra-marital exploits were in the past. I wanted them to SORAS the three kids, along with Dinah and with Phillip's family as Ross's extended family would really be solid core family material.
With that said, I was rooting against Bloss in 1999 as I really liked the Ross/India pairing-- but that just turned out to be a waste of MKA.

Looking back...Primetime Ratings from the 80's

The return of sitcoms' popularity in the mid-'80s was a real thing, but the crash of the wealth-based nighttime soap genre was resonate and self-induced.

There was an effectively grim finality to the mood of the cliffhangers in the Spring of 1985: Bobby's death, the Moldavian massacre, the return of Val's babies... and they felt as if they could have ended right there (and perhaps they should have, although I would have sorely missed S10 of Dallas, S6 of FC, and Season 9 of Dynasty , and the next five years of KNOTS as they singularly maintained quality).

But, wow, these shows just fell apart post-Spring 1985. They stopped being character dramas after a while, and just started trying to "impress" viewers in some superficial way and to "fake it" somehow.

What a painful, unnecessary slide it was. But once these shows seemed to lose their identities, their sense of self, their momentum into the dung heap couldn't be slowed.
