Soap Stars Who Need A Makeover

I am torn about Jack Wagner. His skin aging is from being out in the sun playing golf, but he still looks good to me even with the weird hair color. He is still handsome and can be very charming.

I think that Peter Bergman who has not been mentioned is a very handsome distinguished older man who has aged well.

Kirsten looks ill and has ever since her weight loss started. Whatever substance she is using, she has got to stop. Jason probably starves himself, but he does not look ill.

Some weeks she does. Some weeks she looks like Anais Nin lecturing at the School for Disembodied Poets. Strasser beneifits from a less severe hairstyle to soften her features. A few of the wigs they plop on her are highly unflattering.

...and about La Flannery's hair: It's thinning out which couldn't be more obvious. It's happening to some people with age but due her medication it seems much stronger than in general. Therefore, she can't just grow it out... The only thing she could do is to wear a wig. Been there, done that - and I found it degrading to La Flannery.

That said up to a certain age (let's say 60) and without any health issues, I suppose that actors & actresses are also paid to a certain degree for their looks. Take that Maurice Bernard. :P

Wagner seems to heavily rely on make-up since he does not do nip/tucking. He looked EXTREMELY old and awful during the last season of Melrose, slightly better on Titans and when he joined B&B gone were the crows-feet.

...untill they apparently reduced his make-up which aged him at least 20 years considering his buff body.

Sorry Rakesh, but Zimmer is a train wreck and has been throughout most of her career.

I think Jess Walton is growing her hair out, at least, that's the way it looks to me onscreen.

Stafford looks great! Does anyone else remember Stafford's little chicklet teeth and enhanced gumline when she first joined Y&R? Girl should be on her knees thanking Bill Bell.

I think Susan Seaforth Hayes looks absolutely fabulous. And though I don't like her, Lauren Koslow is stunning. I've met her in person and she does not disappoint.

Grayson McCouch needs to buzz all that hair off- he looks tres fab with the short mane.

Tammin Sursok really needs to put on some pounds. She's as bad as Minshew, but shorter.

You know, I think it's always been that poodle perm of his that made him unattractive. I have an episode of the Hardy Boys from 1977 where he is sporting STRAIGHT hair, and he actually looks CUTE. I can't for the life of me remember what he looked like when he played Chris Brooks' rapist in 73/74... but Geary seems to be somebody who went downhill really FAST after 30. Lavosier is also someone who NEEDS HAIR, this buzzed off crap he sports now does NOTHING for him. Perhaps it was his attempt to butch himself up? I don't think it will help. I know Zimmer doesn't wear flattering clothes... but sometimes an actress has to take matters into her own hands. After all, Dickson wore her OWN clothes in the 80's, and had it written into her contract, cause she HATED waht they gave her to wear.

I love Strasser, but her looks are like a coin toss from day to day. In Wagget's Soap Opera Book of Lists, there's a list of most beautiful actresses and the soap photog who wrote the list put her on there. ITA with what he said which was that from some angles she can look haggard, then she turns her head into the light and she is just radiantly beautiful. I think the look she sported in the "b.j. gate" episodes is currently her best, she looks great with the curly extensions pulled back. I really wish they'd dye her hair a softer colour though, that Osbourne family red is too severe, she looks too witchy some days and it really ages her when they blow her naturally thin hair straight.

McCouch is a tough call because I also have nice curly hair that people compliment (he says modestly) which makes me look younger, yet when I cut it short I hear "handsome" more or people say I look less "boy" and more man. He definitely looks older and more gray with the short hair, but it's not necessarily a bad thing. I guess it depends on what you're going for.

That's my girl, DIVA, DIVA, DIVA!

"Do you like this gown? It's very dramatic. There was a time in my career when I wouldn't be caught dead in a gown like this. Fashion can be acquired through fashion."

Peter Bergman (to quote Bridget Jones' Diary) is starting to look purple! Also his skin is very dry. Maybe it is the SoCal lifestyle -- golfing, tennis and boating? He is finally at an age where he has "grown into" Jack's wardrobe of smart suits, ties and Swoop hair, though.

Oh, and Sharon Case needs to lay off the mystic tan. AND CUT OFF THOSE DAMN EXTENSIONS.

And Alicia Minshew and Kristen Storms need to be put on a feeding drip. And, possibly, Sarah Brown.

Crystal Chappell, like Kim Zimmer, has put on some weight over the years. But I personally think she carries it rather well.

I didn't know LAD wore wigs! Her hair was so lustrous on Sunset Beach. I totally thought she was blessed by the Hair gods.

Somewhat OT but I heard that Kelly Monaco, Sarah Brown and Rick Hearst are heavy smokers. Is this true?

    • That's what Julie Hanan Carruthers is doing for BTG at the new studio in Atlanta, but JHC is credited.
    • I remember when the whole Missy Reeves controversy started in 2012.  She tweeted support of a business that had made homophobic statements. Greg Rikaart (who was on Y&R back then) publicly called her out on it, but was willing to reach out and speak with her. Article here: https://greginhollywood.com/greg-rikaart-talks-about-his-twitter-war-with-fellow-soap-star-melissa-reeves-over-anti-gay-chick-fil-a-73139 That being said, ten years later, on DAYS, in 2022, when they had they double wedding of Leo/CraigWesley and Gwen/Xander, Jack and Jennifer came to the wedding.  At that time, Missy Reeves was only intermittently available for DAYS. Jennifer was living "in Boston" and Cady McClain and Missy were each intermittently appearing as Jennifer, on the specific occasions when the show required a Jennifer to appear. Missy wasn't on contract and she could have said no. But she chose to appear as Jennifer for the gay wedding of Greg Rikaart's character.   So... I mean... I would assume they reached a détente behind-the-scenes. Missy still has her belief system but there's that.
    • That was one of the best grandslam finals.  Alcaraz comes all the way back down 2 sets to 0, and three match points in the 3rd set, to win it in a 5th set tie-break.  And the quality of play was excellent - so many great shots.  What a battle!
    • Indeed. I may try to watch it in full sometime, but not anytime soon... Mark played Sean Baxter for a few episodes when Courtney married Andy. Burke was either on Broadway or at OLTL at that time, I suppose.
    • Well, Josh was a horndog. LOL Yep. It was one of the first really weird things Reva did with her PPD. She became obsessed with the idea that Dylan and Sam should get married. Sam was only 17, and needed her parent's permission. Reva helped them leave town so they could go to a neighboring state where Sam was old enough. Ross, Billy and Josh stopped them, then Sam went to India to try and persaude Justin. Reva followed her and didn't tell Josh she was going. While Reva was gone, Josh advertised for nannies, and Harley applied. He ended up hiring someone else. But when Reva returned, she hired Harley because (in her weird mental state) she wanted someone she could trust with the kids (because she feared Josh was trying to get rid of her and that Vanessa wanted the children.). After Reva starts treatment, she asks Harley to stay until she's stronger because she's good with the kids. At the party, Reva starts going off the rails, insulting Justin and Josh hauls her to a private dining room to ask WTF. Reva starts confronting him about the "affair" with Vanessa, and he realizes she is weird. He locks her in the dining room and frees Mindy and Van from the ladies room (where Reva has locked them in). Van starts telling him that Reva attacked her and needs help.  Reva escapes out the window of the dining room and goes back to the party, climbs onto a table and starts a striptease. Josh gets her to stop, takes her home and after filling Ed in, decides to go to the doctor the next day. Reva then takes off and spends days running around town, coming on to a guy she thinks is Billy, Billy, Hamp, Frank and Roger.  Roger takes her to his apartment and takes nude pictures of her, which he tries to blackmail Billy with. He wants the deed to the land the Towers is on in exchange for them. (Billy had been left the deed by a sweet old lady who lost her home in the 5th street fire. Roger had stolen the deed from her before she died. After Roger took those pics of Reva, she saw him hide them, and took an envelope from the hiding place. She didn't realize she'd taken the deed and not the pictures.)  Anyway, Billy and Vanessa trick Roger into burning the pictures, claim the deed and at the Towers opening reveal that Billy owns the land and therefore the Towers. That's what led to Roger and Alex's breakup and Roger and Mindy's affair. Mark Lewis was on ATWT? 1986 is not a good year, storywise. No bueno. Muy no bueno.
    • All the time they spent trying to make viewers feel sorry for Chad only for him to not even last that long. I wonder if they knew Richard Burgi was going so quickly. You're right about Josie replacing Cheryl. On paper, this should have made sense, given all the ties Josie had to the canvas, but I did prefer Cheryl. There was something very synthetic about Alexandra Wilson.  I suppose even if she did have some fans they were just so used to getting rid of people left and right, so she was more collateral damage. As you said above I do wonder what the plans were for Peggy Lazarus. I think AWHP mentioned her once telling Peter that Peggy Lazarus wasn't her real name. Maybe she would have been another Carl moll... Rebecca Hollen never did get her due in her soap roles.
    • So true...Hackney might have had a story on FC with Richard being an old lover of his, but reveals herself to be a Cartel member and blackmails Richard with something into doing her dirty work  LOL. But of course Richard had his hands full with the double trouble sisters Ms. Jones and Ms. Braxton that season.

    • Cat herself will be a stumbling block all her own as she vowed to Chad to stay away from him, thus redeeming her of her crime morally. Classic DAYS would have them gazing longingly at each other at Doug's Place or Blondie's, while Liz is serenading the room with a song aptly chosen to represent their feelings of emotional turmoil.
    • From what I just recently watched, they were setting her up to go into future stories. She was Emmy nomination worthy in the material I saw. If some viewers did not like her, the character could have been rehabilitated after that sick storyline. It feels like they destroyed a character for fun and then tossed her to the curb. Spencer had chemistry with everyone. I'm just retroactively angry on Spencer's behalf.  You're right about how Cheryl was often forgotten and pushed aside and I would take Cheryl over Josie. I think soaps need characters like Cheryl. Characters like Josie are way too common. Josie always got on my nerves.
    • CBS was back in third place in 1994/95. That was the season CBS lost NFL broadcasting rights which also cost them several established affiliates in major media markets. 1995 CBS was sold to Westinghouse and Les Moonves arrived. 1995/96 CBS was trying to be young and cool to compete with NBC and Fox, but it was an epic failure and CBS was once again in third place.
