The least those who pretend to care about the rule of law and democracy can do is ensure that Trump is never allowed to run for the presidency or any public office again.

If they sit on their asses and do nothing to punish Trump's actions, they will ensure that some future autocrat who is not as incompetent and dumb as Trump will have a leadership pathway.

The problem in general is you can't put enough rules or laws in place to defer leaders who have autocratic tendencies. And there is a percentage of the population that is fine with it. There was an article I read some years back long before Trump that outlined how white evangelicals in particular and a percentage of working class whites are fine with it.  A functional democracy only functions if you have leaders who have good intentions.

The answer is to make gvmt work again - it's not and hasn't for quite sometime. And then convince people that gvmt not one person can help improve their lives.  FDR had a huge following,  I tend to believe while much of it was leveraging the gvmt to help them, many saw him as their daddy figure which lent support.

Well, then they need to focus on ensuring that Trump can't run again. Maybe mandate that every presidential candidate submit at least fifteen years of tax returns with their paperwork.

Just pretend that it's a Democratic Supreme Court justice nominee.

Folks know how to block those.

States have tried passing those laws. They get ruled as unconstitutional. The truth is that there's no way to stop someone from running for president. Cranks and grifters have been doing it for decades. Ron Paul, Lyndon LaRouche, Ralph Nader, etc...

Looks like it's going to be close, but I am just going to assume the usual and be glad I won't be on much of tonight.

I think we have as good a shot as we're going to get. If we don't get 'em, nothing changes for me. But it's a good fight nonetheless.

Oooo!!! I think we might bring it home here in GA. Almost 50% of the vote is in and Ossoff and Warnock are winning. While I am most certain we won't have definite answer till about Thursday or Friday, I have this feeling we're about to score a win.

*fingers crossed*

News outlets haven't called the race yet, but Wasserman is reliable and has accurately called other races in the past. Based on what is left to count, Ossoff should win two. Republicans have maxed out and Metro Atlanta is heavily unreported.
