I love a lot of Friedkin's work and really like Sorcerer - I got to see the restoration a few years ago on the big screen - but I adore the original film, Clouzot's The Wages of Fear. [/OT]

I need to see that. I didn't want to see them too close together because I know some got very annoyed at the original being remade so I thought it would taint my view. (I also wish the 16 minutes of Sorcerer that is on the German cut could be made available but oh well). It's good to see you posting again, as always.

Not that this has anything to do with the above, but:

At this point, I'll support a blanket laced with smallpox if it can defeat Trump.

I agree. If I could vote in your election it would be Candidate AnyoneButTrump on election day. But looking at Twitter  there are an awful lot of Bernie Bros who are adamant that if he's not the candidate they'll do a write in vote for an Inanimate Carbon Rod. I just don't get it. You've seen the damage Trump has done. You know he'll do more. And yet you're going to stuff around with these stupid purity tests? Eff em.

In a way, ultra-progressives' all-or-nothing-at-all approach to politics (and everything else) is more destructive than anything the current administration has done and will do.  At a time when the entire Democratic party needs to rally, they're threatening to take their ball and jacks home, thereby ensuring Trump's reelection -- which they're okay with, because 1) they see compromise as the work of the devil and 2) they have the insane belief that government has to be burned to the ground and then rebuilt.

As for impeachment, what on earth to people think Pelosi should have done.

I was okay with letting the House sit on the articles of impeachment indefinitely.  If only because it drove the GOP and the Republican senators nuts.  But, when Pelosi and the others caved into McConnell's demands without so much as a promise to call witnesses...?  I'm done.

Joe Biden is running because he has to. There's simply nobody else who can do this. He's our best bet. I think that when all is said and done Joe Biden will have spent the last days, weeks, months, years of his life using his old white male privilege to save our republic.

ICAM!

Seriously, who gaf whether their man or woman is for stuff like "Medicare4All"?  God willing, if he or she wins the election, they'll be too busy cleaning up the current administration's messes to implement even a tenth of their plans for this country.  So does any of that stuff really matter?

People still don't understand that this is not "politics as usual" or that you can't always get you want.  This is war, ladies and gentlemen.  We are battling Trump and the GOP for the heart and soul of our republic; and right now, we are losing.

And from what I can gather, there are no guarantees that China will hold to their end OR that we'll be able to hold them to it.  (And why should the Chinese hold to anything, when it's clear from Reich's accounting alone that they have us over a proverbial barrel?)

Mr. Art of the Deal needs to read his own damn book.  That is, if he CAN read.  ;)

I was okay with her holding them indefinitely. But you do know the press and even democrats were starting to whine about "when is she sending them". I have not been following the news networks, but I was reading that those morons on Morning Joe were deriding Pelosi about holding onto them and most recently the end of last week saying "why is she sending them. I stopped watching and following all these clowns because all cable is is a bunch of elitists, mostly republican, who allowed their party to lose to Dumbo Donnie giving advice to democrats on what to do to win. They allowed Trump to take over their party and if anyone listening to those fool, the democrats would have lost the house again.

I think her holding them and now releasing them has allowed this information we have now seen come out and we all know more will. I guess I am not as pessimistic. I don't expect anyone in the senate to find courage but it's setting up people like Gardner, Collins, McSally and yes Joni Ernst to lose Plus Ernst is already embroiled in her own state campaign funding dark money scandal in Iowa that's been dragging her down for months. Gardner is going to be running against Hickenlooper who is still wildly popular in Colorado.

Iowa is a sleeper no one is paying attention to but as someone in Illinois who has been closely following Wisconsin and Iowa, it's entirely possible for Ernst to lose believe it or not.

Yeah, that's why I stopped paying attention to any commentary from either side of the aisle.  I just listen (as best as I can) to the facts and then form my own opinions.

But, I will say this: Elizabeth Warren sounded like a true Oklahoman when she called out Bernie after the debate for calling her a liar (which CNN's hot mic just happened to pick up, lol).  As a lifelong Okie, it's been my experience that we don't let [!@#$%^&*] like that simmer for too long.  You call us a liar, we're gonna confront you.  Right then, and right there.

I agree. Getting bills passed will likely be just as hard as it was for Obama, unless by some miracle we win the Senate. At this pint stopping our downfall is all I care about. Sure, I'll vote for Warren in the primary if she is still in it, but I will vote for the nominee whoever it is when the time comes. These Bernie Bro types are out of their minds and they clearly don't care who they hurt. They will flat out tell you they want things to go to hell so that other people will suffer.

What annoys me most is we never hear what St. Bernie will do to pass bills.  His cult members just seem to think they can strongarm everyone and that will get the result, even though they criticize Biden for pipe dreams about getting bills passed.  Really I think they don't want the legislation to pass anyway - that way they can continue to make him a martyr and just go on about the pointlessness of the system.

That paper's endorsement makes me even more wary.

I really wanted to support Warren, but there's just too many bad strategic mistakes from her. There have been at least 4 really dumb mistakes, bear traps she strolled right into, over the last year. Trump's people will steamroll her. And not because she's a woman, which has become the main line of her campaign, but because she's just not good at this.

Klobuchar I have issues with but I can see why she has support...but she's so far back now I don't see much changing, although she could give a shock in Iowa. The main problem she has is she's in the same boat at Buttigieg - what happens once she gets out of New Hampshire?

I think at this point we just have to hope to all that is holy that Biden can take on Trump. It's obviously not going to be anything like a fair fight with the voter suppression efforts going on.
