Sad. I know he'd been sick for a while...John was one of my favorite Dark Shadows actors. Charismatic, gorgeous, and insanely talented. He really tore into his material. Yes he could be ridiculously over the top but he also managed to give layers and sold everything he was given. And I just loved watching him with Nancy Barrett.

I wish clips of Will and Carolyn Loomis were available. I just ate up that storyline.

Dark Shadows had some of the most beautiful music composed for a show. Some of the songs, like Josette's Theme, have never left my head. Initially so simple, sweet, then full on pathos - much like Josette herself. Cobert was a genius. I loved his Blue Whale songs the most.

RIP to Robert Cobert. DS truly did have a great stable of cues to use, probably one of the most recognizable features of the show. He did a great job of creating themes for characters/settings along with just general background themes. My favorite is probably Angelique's theme.

"A Darkness at Collinwood" - iconic.

Peter Minor, who produced the show for much of its run, has passed away.   (Worthington Hall in the 1897 storyline was named for his father, the great producer Worthington Minor.)

The younger Mr. Minor later directed One Life to Live.

Oh, that is tragic news to hear.  Peter Miner remains one of my all-time favorite directors from this genre.

Did we know that the WB Dark Shadows pilot is finally floating around online?

I haven't had time to watch it yet so I'm not sure if this is it, but it does seem like it. I've been wanting to see this since it was originally rejected and considering it's been shown at fan events I've always been shocked it never seemed to leak online.

    • I've been behind & just got caught up & the last 3 days were amazing!
    • Yeah.  The hot, poor bad boy with a chip on his shoulder but with a heart of gold was a common soap trope in the 80s

    • That's been an issue with me... the lack of a cohesive 'Have Not' crowd that has focus other than Leslie/Eva.   I would beef up Jan, Mona, Laura, Joey, and few other male characters.. and not just be out to overthrow the Duprees.. but co-existing and broadening the scope of the show since the show is called Beyond the Gates. I think the set up the show has with everything revolving around the Duprees will become predictable especially if they always win.   It would be like Victor Newman on Y & R for 40+ years.. always winning, hardly ever losing.   With MVJ/Guza.. both trained under that mindset... I fear that will happen.   I've always heard from a performer that is playing a character like Leslie/Dana that you have to find the victim/hurt beneath the surface in order to play a villain/villainess... and I think that's why I enjoy watching her.. because she brings so much more to the part than what the writers put on the page.
    • I figure that was really hard for Dom to do. I completely GET why they wrote it the way they did but I wonder if it was necessary. Meanwhile I have 2 really icky ideas in my head. Drew is going to blame Tracy KNOWING it was not her. Dante is going to blame Lulu.  After that, everyone else is going to be mad at Lois.  Tracy is going to double down on wanting to get rid of Sonny. Sonny's going to be more dug in to stay because he now has a new descendant.
    • I can actually buy Brook Lynn being so self-absorbed and incurious that she never thought to question why her mom and grandma were so attached to Gio.
    • It was overkill and the whole narrative Lois was too nice to the orphan kid when he was little, WHAT? Like Emma said no one thinks Gio is a troublemaker that gets 14-year-old kids drunk for fun. That being said, Lulu figured this Gio thing out in episode, but Brook Lynn never once questioned Lois and Gloria attachment to a child that was the same age as the baby she gave up?  Ever?
    • Thanks for finding that. I may have been thinking of this blog entry.
    • Just watched the "Dante Screams At Gio" scenes. Jesus. Talk about overload and overkill. That was obnoxious.
