Ryan's Hope Discussion Thread

As much as I love Ryan's Hope, if any of those characters returns it needs to be written by Claire Labine. Why would anybody care to see Delia on GH? This is just insane to me. I don't want this at all and I actually like Maura West as Ava. Now if they did a reboot of Ryan's Hope and wanted Maura West on that show I'd be fine with it, but not like this. Such a waste of time.

Also when would Delia have had Ava. Ava would be younger than Delia's son with Frank, John. Delia was gone from December 84 to September 86 I guess that could be but Lucy said Victor met the mistress at Ryans bar.

IMHO this would have to be a rewrite and I wonder how Claire would feel and surprised Ilene would do it if it messed with Claire's story

Not necessarily. Ron COULD say Delia had Ava before she even married Frank and that Bob helped her get rid of the baby. And now that that's out there, I'm going to crawl under a rock.

do you honestly think this writer cares about any of that? They made Rex, Clint and Echo's son from an affair that happened years before Jessica and Natalie were born, not to mention the debacle with Dani and Jack switching birth orders Edited by Cheap21

Delia was also off screen from mid-fall 1983 (the firing of Ilene ) through mid-June 1984 (and the return of Delia played by Robin Mattson).

Ryan's Hope messed with their own timeline by SORASing Johnno into a 19 year old with a baby and having dialog that said Frank was the same age!! when he (Frank) became a father. That would have made Delia – according to early RH years “facts” - - giving birth to Little John at 14 -- after having married Frank at age 9.

I'm getting more pissed the more I think of this. Ryan's Hope was such a special show and I can't imagine how Claire Labine will feel about this. I know they won't make this simple either. As complicated as Carlivati's storylines get, this could be a huge clusterfuck for Ryan's Hope. In other news, it's kinda making me wish somebody would reboot this series. I know Rosie O'Donnell and Claire Labine tried, but they couldn't get any traction.

I don't think Delia was ever trashy the way Roxy was.

What annoys me is that Claire Labine helped Ron get his start in daytime, and you just know that instead of asking for any of her input regarding this, he will likely [!@#$%^&*] all over her creation and then tweet that he knows Delia better than anyone and he saved Delia from Claire's drudgery.

Just saw this and was tweeting this at that time

So It looks like we are getting some Ryan's Hope on @GeneralHospital soon. I HOPE @carlivatiron@valentinifrank consulted with Claire Labine since she co-created Ryan's Hope & was one of their EP's from 1975-1981 and Head writers from 1975-81;, 83; 87-89.Plus If Delia is coming to GH then I hope she is written as Delia and not OLTL's Roxy.

    • Any fan of RuPaul would dispute calling any of these examples “drag”. A costume?, A disguise?, A lame attempt at humor? -- yes -- Drag? -- nope
    • No asterisk. I meant that the circumstances during the first year were in her favor.
    • Maybe I am misunderstanding you? Are you suggesting that her success at GL should have an asterisk next to it because she was smart enough to exploit a weakness in the marketplace to gain ratings?  Note: Try not to take this personally—I’m not accusing anyone of being consciously misogynistic. I’m simply proposing that the origins of certain ideas about Ms. Phelps—such as claims that she was unprepared or a poor manager of her writing staff—may be rooted in misogyny. Perhaps, with the benefit of hindsight, it's worth reconsidering those opinions. At the very least, imagine being one of the few women in the room while a male network executive tries to decide what women want to watch during the day. That context has certainly led me to reassess many of my own long-held views.
    • Through 78 and 79 under Marland and Pat Falken smith GH was still heavily hospital based with a mix of storylines. The Doctors would have been fine had they followed that template. Once GH went with Ice Princess all bets were off.Who knows how much TD would have copied that direction? And OLTL, DOOL went in that direction quite heavily while other shows dabbled in far out stories. The thing is that TD was well set up for an expansion.

    • Aaron Spelling still had clout with ABC in Fall 1984, as I think they knew he was going to pull out all the stops for Dynasty to get to #1, which he did. That's probably why ABC kept Hotel as Dynasty lead out. Fall 1985 with the sale to Capital Cities and Brandon Stoddard arrival, Aaron Spelling would lose his clout with ABC.
    • Correction, July 1991 to May 1995. JFP got the ratings up during her first year, but it also helped that ABC big three were tanking at various times during that year and Days was in their post-supercouple/pre-Reilly mess era. It will always disappoint me that the ratings during the Calhoun/Long/Curlee era did not reflect the quality of the show.

    • Perhaps. But would anyone have wanted The Doctors to turn into what General Hospital ultimately became?  Dear God in Heaven...
    • Thanks @EricMontreal22 that must be one of the last issues. Probably the best soap magazine.
