GH: Kate Howard

Is anyone else LOVING Kate Howard/Connie Falconeri? I was skeptical at first when I read they were bringing on a new woman from Sonny's past, but I think the writers and producers have struck gold with Megan Ward and her portrayal of Kate. The wistful, dreamy conversations she's had with her first love Sonny along with her hilarious antics with Carly and the demon spawn children are great, and yesterday's episode with her and Sonny discussing his line of work was sparkling with chemistry. I also like that they didn't thrust her into a front burner storyline right away. We're seeing a strong, independent woman in Kate Howard and I can't get enough of her!

Come to think of it, GH has been hitting the right notes with all its new characters this year. Cooper and Logan are both clearly defined young guys with real personalities; Amelia's a fabulously vindictive witch; Jerry Jacks (yes, I know he's a returning character but they clearly did a 180 on him) is the best villain in years; and Spinelli, is well, Spinelli.

Sonny needs Kate. Their being past/fast friends is going to drive Carly nuts and that is a big plus. Instead of keeping them friends who knew each other "when", however, TIIC will most likely have them sleep together thus ending a great relationship.

H I have thought has had a pretty consistent year. Their current storylines actually are somewhat interesting and the majority of the new characters introduced have been written well. Cooper makes Maxie at least tolerable so therefore he has been a success

I like her too, and I also hate Sonny. I used to love him with Brenda in the early days, so this is a rare moment for me. Kate has been introduced just right, not shoved down our throats. The same with Cooper and Logan. I love Spinelli as well.

I think the show should offer the actress who plays Amelia a contract right away. She has been excellent, and she brings so much to the role. She could easily be one note, but she plays everything so well. Jason is oddly comfortable with her too. I really enjoy her!

My favorite part about all these new characters is that they are all three dimensional. Look at Amelia - this could have been the most eye-rollingly silly portrayal of a soap psycho ever but she's written and performed beautifully. Same with Cooper and Logan - one's a cop, one's a thug but there's so much more to it.

    • I mean...Sarah Michelle Gellar did go on to be a household name and food guru. I can see Amber doing the same with the same talent.  Amen.
    • It really is ridiculous how happy episodes from 40 years ago make me. God, MKA is so young!
    • Holy sh.it. THAT was a damn soap opera. I’m at a loss for words for how good that was.
    • A private elevator penthouse with a spiral staircase to the primary suite.  Sign me up! The only deficit was that various riff-raffs seemed to have easy access to the elevator.

    • Same here.  Anyone who voluntarily left Margo's penthouse set (except to go overseas or to Heaven) was immediately on my blacklist.  lol.

    • The penthouse was my favorite set... and it changed hands from Margo to Draper/April to Miles/Nicole then to just Miles... before he opted to give that beautiful place for that drab house with the even more drab Beth.  That was a jump the shark moment for me LOL
    • The storyline April and Draper are involved in during the summer/autumn of 1979 seems fairly "benign" but soon turns very serious.  April has a VERY intrusive, wealthy mother (Margo Huntington Dorn).  Margo knows that April and Draper (who've recently had a miscarriage and are theoretically never going to be able to conceive another baby) want to buy a house.  Margo hoodwinks them into buying a house they can't afford.  The house is listed at $100,000 (about $400,000 in today's dollars).  Margo pays the first $35,000 and leads Draper to believe the asking price of the house is $65,000 instead of $100,000.  If Draper finds out his meddling mother-in-law paid 1/3 of the cost of the home and tricked him, he'll be mad as hell.   Meanwhile, Draper has received a job offer from a prestigious New York law firm.  Margo pulls some strings and has the senior partner in the firm rescind the offer, to keep April in Monticello.  If Draper finds out about THAT, he'll be even angrier with Margo than he will be about the house trickery.  All of that is "bubbling under the surface" in the fall of 1979 but will be the next major story, as everything begins to spiral out of control.   Yep, you've got the Karrs and their very basic middle-class house, the Victorian-themed place where Miles and Nicole live, April and Draper's old craftsman house with the exposed beams, the Madisons & their Mission revival house, and Margo with her 1970s-chic penthouse.  Each of the sets is completely different.  And their budget was like zero, lol.
    • It felt weird and out of place.  I get it. While I agree with those on here that say he's gotten better, it's still really bad. I'm not seeing the "good" acting some see...but I'll give him a B for being better than when he first started. There's potential. I'll leave it at that.
