I hated the Salem Stalker storyline because some of my favorites were killed off (Jack! Maggie!) However, I thought it was well done for the most part, until the island silliness. When I knew a murder episode was coming up, I actually had nightmares about it. And every time I got together with friends or my sisters, we always ended up talking about it. Now every one I know has given up on Days, except for my mom. :(

The Salem Stalker is my favorite storyline in the HISTORY of DAYS!!!!

It was better than ANY slasher movie, and believe me....I'm a slasher fan. JER used so much of the cast for it and even brought back my Jan!! Deidre Hall was AMAZING at playing evil Marlena. It was just so....so.....amazing. EXACTLY why I love JER.

The Salem Serial Killer story COULD have been riveting television if JER could have just resisted his urges to play it out like one big cartoon. There was Marlena falling off a building and bouncing off a tarp landing on top of Sami, Sami carving a turkey with Kate's head on it, Julie and Doug's "Hey everyone! We're back! And we brought a TIGER!!!!", and Marlena wishing she had gotten Alice's donut recipe after killing her then Hattie selling the rest of them off on ebay. Bad, bad, cartoonish stuff. Then the island mess that followed; Poor Celeste. Who can ever believe her again when she channelled the spirit of Abe, a person who was never dead. And I was SO hoping for an explanation for Caroline's dance in hell on Bo's PDA. We never DID find out what the hell Tom Horton was trying to tell Alice.

From what I understand, the orgininal plot line surrounding the murders was to have Stefano and witchcraft involved. Also, who else remembers JER discussing with Michael Logan about his plan for a Days spin-off back in the spring of 2004?

Oh no, my mind is now being inundated with all of the many plot holes in the Salem Stalker storyline! I won't be able to sleep tonight. Maybe Horton the tiger will show up at Sami's wedding, LOL. But I really liked Doug and Julie's reunion. Doug came back and Julie was sitting at the table in Maggie's house and said "Darling, could you hand me a pen?" Then she realized it was really him and passed out. Loved that! Julie and Doug were my first super couple and they are really cheesy and overly cutesy now, but I still love them.

The Salem Serial Killer was an awesome storyline up until the reveal that Marlena was the killer. Everything was consistent up until that point. After the reveal, everything went down from Doug's death and on.

The SSK could have been good and from the beginning it was. But Melaswan was horrid, and Alice's and Doug's deaths just never settled with me, along with Marlena herself being the killer and Tony being the one behind it.

The DiMera's should not have had anything to do with the story, just for difference. This may sound crazy and I heard rumours of this, but it is JER like. I think alot more story potential would have been Marlena possessed.....by SAM! Sam takes over Marlena's life again, literally, and her goal is to make the people Marlena was close to die. Maggie, John, Cassie, Roman, even Tony! And JER could have written it right, I know when Sam died she was good, but who knows? I just am trying to think of ways to make the story interesting and my character be back.

Marlena's actions during that story after she was revealed to be the killer resembled Sam and Hattie's. That just had so much potential...

Ernesto being the killer would have made sense to a certain point if the Alice murder did not happen, and the Cassie murder would have had to be strictly a "she found out so I had to kill her" reason. If a few tweaks were made to the story that would probably have worked...and, if he had been the killer and tweaks had been made, he should have killed Victor. Made alot more sense than Jan killing him.

    •  Yeah, he is still dressed like Martin. He looks great, though.  Cute picture. Sober up, cause we need the tea.
    • Well, Claire did rig Rick's test results, but it was to flunk. They actually managed to get his correct results back after they were thrown into Cedar's furnace...I think? Everyone knew Claire changed them and Rick passed so that rewrite never made sense.   I agree. Pratt always seems "edgy" on screen (and her Locker Room interview prooved that it came from her personality.) I liked Claire causeing trouble and love Meta ringing her beads. Its just too bad that Abby left and they kinda just forgot Claire existed.
    • Oh so they did sleep together. The retcon was just the medical boards? That makes sense. I think Susan Pratt, while a good actress, was just an unlikeable presence onscreen and soaps wrote to that most of the time. There was some potential for more with her when she returned in that stint, as Pratt was at least interesting to watch and caused some conflict for the stifled Bauers. Instead of pairing her with Alan and then disappearing I might have had her hook up with Danny. I think there was a lot of flirtation with Bolger's Philip, but they never crossed the line.
    • I haven't seen Melchior in the role, but it would be astounding if she's worse than Linn. Her rivalry with Stephanie was sidelined IMO because Linn was one of the few actors who didn't have chemistry with, nor raise her game, when paired with Susan Flannery. To be fair, she did show some signs of life in scenes opposite Darlene Connelly, but way too little too late. It feels like Bell finally woke up after the Thorne switchover and sidelined the Kristin character with Mick to 1 or 2 appearances a week. As a result, the show improved by leaps and bounds after she was inexplicably at the center of the show for most of 1989. Margo is so much more enjoyable when not tied to that albatross. Even Clarke is watchable with less Kristin interaction. She can't exit stage left soon enough. As for the new Thorne, I agree that Norcross feels like a Forrester a lot more than Thrachta, even if the latter is a better actor.
    • The cast said that scenes were filmed over a few weeks, with a preplanned hiatus in the middle, and it was all out of order.  I would *guess* that they used Chandler when they could get him? They also had to work around Leo Howard getting married around the time these episodes were filmed, but I guess they worked it out since Tate appeared.
    • Maybe there was a scheduling conflict or something. He still has the full time 9-5 in Atlanta, right? Julie was there. Idk if Maggie’s gonna be a part of it though
    • At this point, the best nonpaywall coverage of Los Angeles (and anything political)  is in...the Tennessee Holler https://bsky.app/profile/thetnholler.bsky.social And as always, emptywheel continues to be consistent https://bsky.app/profile/emptywheel.bsky.social
    • Today Monday was the start of people arriving at the funeral, but the service hasn't started yet.  I know this is the nonspoiler thread but I think it's okay to say (in nonspecific terms) that the funeral episodes span a few days.  I won't detail it more here. Just sayin' keep watching.
    • Why am I only now hearing about what happened in L.A., lol?
    • While I agree that Reeves is Jennifer, I honestly do prefer Cady McClain in the role, as I feel she had/has a wider range of acting capabilities than I feel Reeves has. It's the strength of an actor, ultimately, for me, regardless of how I feel about Reeves' political/social views (which I widely disagree with). Plus, not to mention, they costumed Reeves like an old-fashioned frumpy farm/Moron wife, while McClain had some fashion-forward moments.
