Maybe i am crazy or whatever, the music since Beth took over as head writer, seems different. The mucis seems more soapish, not that crap they had on when Reily was writting. Does anyone else agree or am i just crazy!

I agree. It does seem more soapy and different. But maybe it's the writing. :)

It's so funny that you say that because I was thinking the exact same thing while watching today's episode. Most of that newagey synth crap Corday is responsible seems to be gone a replaced by more orchestral, natural sounding music. IMO, it's very similar in tone and sound to the background music from "the old days". I'm really liking it.

I agree. As a big fan of the music of the show back in the late 80's, I've been disappointed with the music the last few years. The last few weeks there has been a definite change for the better. In the mid 80's, my family did not have a VCR. The local NBC station is broadcast on the radio though. My mom used to record off of the radio for me. When you listen to the show as opposed to watching it, you really get a keen sense of the music in the background. In the mid to late 80's, the music just enhanced every scene whether is was romantic, sad, or suspense. Lately, I've been noticing that especially during the sweet emotional moments, the music has been much better.

The music is alot better right now. The techno crap is gone and so is alot of the music used during the recent JER era.

Scene: Ken Corday's office. Beth has just walked in, and she's none too happy.

Beth: Ken, question.

Ken: Yes, Beth. What do you need?

Beth: Just an answer.

Ken: Answer to what?

Beth: Why in the blue !@#$%^&*] you've been playing this Reject From Dark Shadows music that sounds like it was conposed by The Three Stooges?!

Ken: Uh, Beth, I did the music.

Beth (Pauses briefly) So. No wonder I feel like shitting my pants with laughter every time I hear this crap. Do me and the fans a favor. Put every single disc of this monstrosity on a space shuttle and blast it to Kronos, the Klingon home world. As long as I'm Co-HW, we will NOT be playing that garbage!

I'm just guessing, of course. :P

The flashbacks are also gone, with just a select few here and there that I can deal with. Now if we could just get DAYS to start fading to black or a freeze frame......

I definitely think the music has improved as well.

Roman I want to disagree that that's what happened because BM has so little power below the Great Ken Corday, but since he evidently liked his crappy music before (enough to compose it!) I have to believe that someone, maybe Hogan, maybe Beth, maybe BOTH, DID put the screws to him about the crappy production values.

Well, the show has two music directors. And we really don´t know how many music pieces Corday really composed. He is an owner of the show, he can credit himself as anything. Maybe he just aproved what someone else did. I believe he credited himself as a composer, or maybe a music supervisor, during the great Marty Davich era too.

To be fair, I don´t mind some of his thrilling or dark themes, many current composers uses computers and synthetizators for those and it sounds good, but I agree his romantic a sentimental tunes sucks. You can really feel the difference whenever they are playing old flashback from the tape with a music hardcopied on it, so they have to play the scenes with the original music. The moment when they are going from the new to the old and viceversa changes the mood of the scene completely.

Thanks, Kirk. :D

I was thinking the same thing. I'm a real critic with music in any movie or TV production and on Tuesday's Canadian show, I was very impressed with the music at the end...Very moody, gloomy stuff.
