MORNING STAR is a daytime soap opera which aired on NBC from September 27, 1965 to July 1, 1966. The show was created by Ted Corday. The show aired at 11:00 AM; it was paired with PARADISE BAY which aired after it and also was created by Ted Corday. MORNING STAR was one of the first soap operas to air in color. The show followed Katy Elliot who was a fashion designer from Connecticut; she moved to New York City to begin work in her chosen field. It followed her trials and tribulations. The show opened with an epigraph, as was customary for soap operas of the time, “No matter how dark the night, there is always a new dawn to come. The sun is but a morning star.” BEN JARROD was also early use of color.

I am always a bit amazed when "official" things misspell Procter & Gamble.

Thanks. I found that it is detailed on the John Black wikiwand page & also on the daysofourlives.fandom.com page. Also in theory there is an article on thelist.com but I cannot find it there, so screw it. The fandom page goes into SO MUCH detail!!! I'll paste it here for anyone who wants to go deep reminding themselves before we approach next week. Warning: It is not just the retcon data. Instead it is the whole character, the actor, the comings & goings of Dee & Wayne, his children, the children he raised, his grands, etc. https://daysofourlives.fandom.com/wiki/John_Black

Schemering 1987 p.181 Paradise Bay ... The show was created by Ted Corday, Jerry D. Lewis & John Monks, Jr. ... 11:30 eastern between Morning Star & Jeopardy. In Ken Corday's book he lists the two shows that NBC asked his father to do for them & put in a morning block. Paradise Bay is the one that's not Morning Star.

I believe I am correct in saying that never when a soap was officially scheduled in the morning was there ever a success. Ted Corday did two for NBC when they wanted to try a morning block. Morning Star and Paradise Bay, I believe were their names. Both failed, pretty quickly.

There's someone fairly new to Twitter who is uploading DAYS full episodes, starting with 1984, to a Google Drive or something & anyone who will not post it in public is welcome to watch or download. That would save you a ton of money & you could use 1984 as a starting point as readily as pretty much any other date. If you want the information, directions as it were, I can do them in a private message to you here.

@soapfan770 Well, that is just incredible. And, so awful. Plus, it affirms all theories. Does it by chance have a particular date stamp? So much good stuff came out of WOST. I will be posting this with credit to you. And I will be emailing it to the woman who was Digest's GL Editor 1998-2005.

Agreed. I just felt we were getting some anvils today with the story. I could be wrong, but that was my first thought. No, I don't think you're wrong. John's biological father is gonna come up. Where they're gonna go with it, no idea! I hope they do not retcon anything! As far as I know he is John Black and he is Forrest Alamain but there is no reason for him to go by that name. "Black Patch is on the case."

I have: Hulu, Peacock Plus, Netflix, Amazon Prime Video. I just dropped Starz. I am mad at them. They've decided to split OUTLANDER Season 7 into halves. The first half finished last week. New episodes dropped on Friday nights. So, Episode 8 was the last for awhile. Episode 9 & the back half will be on *sometime* in 2024. GMAB! I get that they want people to stay subscribed but many people like me just had it for OUTLANDER & nothing else. Obviously, we're all going to drop them & pick them up again "sometime". I have tried Paramount Plus, HBOMax & Disney. I have also watched things on Freevee, Pluto, maybe something else, ...

I exchanged emails with Elana Levine who has no problem with this as she says she never said it was Bolen's idea.Once again Pete Lemay's recollection of things during his time provide us with clarity. @danfling If I had on a ball cap I would tip it to you! Now, who wants to summarize this & post it where it belongs in NBC Daytime?

NBC Daytime
Apparently there is resistance to believing it but having lived it & known many fans online there was plenty of network defined fans where AW & DAYS were the big thing. Now it changed & I can tell you when. The first demonic possession storyline on DAYS, tons of those people online gave up DAYS when Reilly began telling DevilDoc 1.0.

AW fans who are also GL fans. AW fans who are also SB fans. AW fans who are also PC fans. AW fans who are also OLTL fans. (This came from people who found OLTL at 2 once AW was canceled.) DAYS fans who are also GH fans. Going by fans online who self-report and/or who are active in different topics, I find there to be a great many where these are in with Venn. And, there's another obvious group: AW, DAYS, GEN & SB. When we first got the earliest VCRs that was the NBC lineup, well, beginning with GEN, then DAYS, then AW & finally SB. People who taped the whole day were prevalent online.

It's a miracle I enjoy PP. His #1 scene partner is EOB as Gwen & I hate Gwen but in this gosh darn story I have empathy for Gwen because her new hubby & her bestie are Friends with Benefits! His #2 scene partner is GR as Leo Stark & I hate Leo with no conditions, just full out. And the story is just sordid. Here we have the diversity soap's offering of what gay folk are like. UGH. Not exactly Pride Ambassadors, are they?!

That's very interesting and going by dates Lemay is first, I believe. I will check that. Her Stories: Daytime Soap Opera & US Television History by Elana Levine. Duke University Press. Durham and London. ©2020. pgs. 94-95. Yes, Lemay claims 1974; Bolen first mentions a date 1975. It is really weird for this to be in CBS Daytime.
