Bright Promise
Just like MacDonald Carey and Joan Bennett, Dana Andrews was cast to give the show some 'star power'. Someone like Andrews would have found acting roles hard to come by at that time and a regular income and 3 day work week would have been appealing.

Sets "Problems" On All The Soaps
The Chancellor set bears only a superficial similarity to the original. The dimensions are much smaller. The front door is now visible from the living room. The length and width much reduced. There is now a doorway to the left of the fireplace that was previously a wall. There were previously doors that lead into the living room that were always open, now just an entrance . The Newman living room was a new set introduced several years back replacing the previous ranch entrance/stairway/living room. This new set is smaller.

Sets "Problems" On All The Soaps
Y&R The Chancellor set. Apart from the fact that it has shrunk considerably, that bulky cheap looking sofa and chair bug me. Something more elegant would help a lot.

AW producers seemed more interested in dropping characters than committing to them. I think Philece would have made a better Nicole. Who would have been more suitable to play Donna? Anna left big shoes to fill.

Sets "Problems" On All The Soaps
For me it's Crimson Lights on Y&R. That 'zany' decor with the robot and the weird puppet thing on the wall. And billionaire business people stop in for a coffee. It's well overdue for a revamp, but I guess with virtually no customers it's not warranted.

Just a guess but it may have aired on an independent station. This was not uncommon when an affiliate chose not to air a soap.

Y&R September 2023 Discussion Thread
That was a nice touch. Have they ever done that for other cast members who passed eg Beau Kayzer? A lot of viewers would have had no idea and it would be quite a shock I'm sure.

Was it ever repaired? Apart from being completely forgotten.

Guiding Light had been off the air for 6 months when it returned in 1947, this time on CBS. By the end of the NBC run the Kranskys and Rutledge's were gone . The NBC version was a new story that lead to the introduction of Meta Bauer and then the Bauer family. I guess at some point, Irna decided a core family was necessary. She had used the Schultz family a few years earlier on the second version of Today's Children and maybe modelled the Bauer's on them.

In the late 60's under Cenedella Susan married Fred Douglas who had been seeing Liz. Fascinating discussion . The myth of the Gregory family taking over. It was constantly mentioned that Agnes killed them off in a plane crash.

Another World Discussion Thread
I was being sarcastic when I suggested that Jacquie Courtney would be happy about having an acting coach. Having created a popular and successful character for several years she would probably be insulted to have the idea of a coach presented to her. There are some performers who just embody their characters regardless of what the perception of their acting ability may or may not be and Jacquie Courtney was one of them. She should never have been dropped.

I'm sure Jacquie would have been thrilled to have an acting coach suggested for her. Lemay from a theater background, preferred stage actors overall. His first encounter on the set with Jacquie was her referring to her lines hidden all over the set. That first impression stayed with him. When he arrived Paul Rauch was already planning to drop Margie Impert as Rachel. She had been a Lyle Hill hire and he was not impressed.

CBS Daytime
Late 71. In a surprise move CBS nabbed Bud Grant from NBC to head up daytime, replacing Paul Rauch. Changes in effect around that time were the return of Irna Phillips to ATWT, Christopher Bell (Loring Mandel) appointed as LOL headwater and Labine/Mayer becoming headwriters of Where The Heart Is.

From Day Player to Long-Running Character
Days- Stephen Nichols as Patch. Originally a thug to harass Kayla but response had them create a whole new storyline. Charles Shaughnessy was on as Shane the butler and again the response lead to long term story.

From Day Player to Long-Running Character
Leanna on Y&R was a short term obstacle to Ashley & Steven until Bill Bell revamped her character from psycho to troublemaker. Douglas went from blackmailer to long term friend and confidante of Victor.

ABC paid Agnes $50 million as a consultant? I find that a little hard to believe.
