  1. What was the last storyline that aired before cancellation? If the ending was 2005 or earlier episodes, then you were spared LML, MAB, JFP, Pratt. Maybe it's me but I always got the impression that B&B is a bigger draw in most of Europe than Y&R.
  2. Are you enjoying the 2014 episodes FrenchFan? If any international Y&R viewers are posting here, what's happening on Y&R in your country?
  3. YRfan23, thank you for the link. I remember the 2008 Paris remote was done to coincide w/ the 20th anniversary of Y&R first being broadcast in France. So if they started w/ 1986 episodes in 1989 as per the episode guide, France would be watching 2014 episodes now. One of the French language channels in Canada airs Y&R but the episodes are from 2009.
  4. YRfan23, do you have an episode guide saved somewhere? You're really good w/ original air dates Ugh, tying Cricket to the Abbotts allowed her to eat the show even more. I remember Soap Opera Digest named Cricket as Most Overexposed Character in one of the best/worst issues in the late 1980s. I believe Chase was gone sometime in spring 1990 but I don't recall how he was written off.
  5. I always thought it was hilarious that little Victoria's real name was Ashley Nicole. She would be about 35 now.
  6. Did anyone like Victor and Cassandra as a couple? It wasn't long after the 1990 episode yrfan1983 recapped that Victor would take little Victoria to Switzerland, and was gone for a few weeks. I pinpoint this departure to coincide with Eric Braeden taking time off for his role in the miniseries Lucky Chances (based on the Jackie Collins novels).
  7. yrfan1983, your recaps are really detailed. Thanks for posting them.
  8. Is this the first documented Friend of Jill incident?
  9. So it was July 1991 that Robert Calhoun left and Jill Farren Phelps came on. I'm glad I was able to experience Robert Calhoun's run both when it originally aired (as much as I could, given I was school-aged at the time) and rewatching again online.
  10. Loved watching these. 1980s Y&R episodes are such a rare treat. Thank you so much
  11. Wow, the confrontation between Alexandra and Roger was epic. I wonder if this episode is what got Michael Zaslow his first Daytime Emmy nomination in 1992. IIRC, he was also GL's first nomination and win ever in the Lead Actor category.
  12. GL aired overseas in Germany, Italy, and Iceland AFAIK. I don't think the P&G shows were really exported globally the way Y&R/B&B were.
  13. This episode was probably the zenith of the Calhoun/Curlee era. It is criminal that Beverlee McKinsey did not get a lead actress nomination at the Daytime Emmy's for any of her early 1990s work on GL. Is there a story behind her being snubbed? There's a little sadness in seeing this storyline again, knowing that Michael Zaslow and Beverlee McKinsey are no longer with us.
  14. The two roles I read Kimberley Simms was in contention for were Jennifer on Days and Ashley on Y&R. As we all know, one role was cast with a hair model clone of the original actress and the other recast was nepotism.
  15. Watching these July 1991 episodes is a little bittersweet. We're so close to Alexandra exposing Roger, but we're also close to Robert Calhoun being replaced by Jill Farren Phelps. I originally thought the EP/writer switches were both at the same time but they were done gradually (Robert Calhoun/Pamela Long June 1989-December 1990, Robert Calhoun/Nancy Curlee January-summer or fall 1991, Jill Farren Phelps/Nancy Curlee summer or fall 1991-1993). I agree, and it was a missed opportunity. How did another soap not snatch up Kimberley Simms anyway? I posted before in the thread that I read she was in contention for two big recasts in the mid 1990s but considering who those roles were cast with was like WTF?
  16. From what I remember, Bridget's hair dryer short circuited and that lead to the blackout. To think that was 25 years ago this month. The buildup and the fallout were amazing. Sadly as we all know the momentum didn't last.
  17. I once read on this board Roger and Holly were described as the anti-supercouple, and that fits them perfectly.
  18. I totally agree, and there's more good stuff ahead.
  19. One of Melina Kanakaredes early episodes. Around the time these episodes aired, Melina was also part of a Family Feud soap opera special so we knew the accent wasn't real.
  20. CBS Daytime had the best promos back in the day.
  21. What a treat it is to see Nia Long's first episodes. Seeing these alongside her current arc on Empire, holy difference LOL.
  22. Oh OK, I didn't know that. Goes to show I wasn't really paying attention to the credits when I watched live LOL. Maureen Garrett was one of the most beautiful women on daytime in the late 1980s/early 1990s. I was surprised to find out that she was 40 when she returned to GL (according to IMDb, her birthdate is August 18, 1948).
  23. I agree, Calhoun/Curlee/Demorest would have been amazing. He really laid all the ground work but sadly it's Jill Farren Phelps that got all the credit for it and as we all know, eventually undid everything. From what I've seen, Robert Calhoun was EP from June 1989 to sometime in the first half of 1991, so only two years at the most. Had we gotten a Calhoun/Curlee/Demorest dream team so to speak, I think Beverlee McKinsey might not have walked in Summer 1992 and Maureen Bauer wouldn't have been killed off in early 1993.
  24. I think it's music more often than not that causes videos to get deleted. I've seen clips that were muted because of songs used in the background of the scene.
  25. Speaking of Wheel of Fortune, the CBS daytime version had a soap special week in the fall of 1989 with stars from all four shows. I know GL actors appeared on Family Feud in 1990-1992 and a few of those episodes are online.
