Behind-the-Scenes Feuds & Drama: TV’s Most Dysfunctional Sets
Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, Janet Hubert's beef with Will Smith and Alfonso Ribiero. What I haven't been able to find out is if anyone from Family Matters had beef with Jaleel White when the show became more focused on Urkel than the Winslows.

Guiding Light Discussion Thread
Mark Derwin was shady about his time at Y&R. I wonder how much of the well-known BTS drama he witnessed during his time there (Summer 1989 to Spring 1990). I didn't know Jocelyn Seagrave was on Days not long after GL. She was shady about her time at Days (well it was the Reilly sci-fi years) but surprisingly no mention of that 1997 Aaron Spelling Fox show Pacific Palisades.

Any Capitol Fans Here?
I'm so used to seeing Jess Walton with big ass hair but she looks good here with the Diana hair. Was this Prince Ali arc some type of 1980s Arabian Nights story? Really Capitol, you're trying to pass a White Australian with dark hair and a tan as Middle Eastern? Maybe in the 1980s daytime casting directors could get away with that nonsense.

Racism and racial representation on soaps
Yes. In fact, only four Black actors have ever been nominated for Lead Actor: Al Freeman Jr. (RIP), Darnell Williams, James Reynolds, Kristoff St. John (RIP). It's quite telling that the category with the most Black winners is Younger Actor.

The Preemption/Out of Pattern Thread
These listings cover the area between Buffalo and Toronto. Interesting that the cable providers carry network affiliates from both Buffalo and Erie. CBS Buffalo aired Guiding Light at 10 am but I'm guessing CBS Erie aired GL at 3 pm, even though it's not listed. As for the Canadian networks at the time, Global had Y&R, Days, General Hospital; CTV had B&B and Another World; CHCH had As the World Turns; CBC had All My Children. Of the long-running soaps, Guiding Light and One Life to Live were not broadcast by a Canadian network at the time. I've pierced together this history about Canadian soap broadcasts in the last 20 years. Any Canadians here can correct me if I'm wrong: General Hospital moves from Global to Citytv where it remains to this day. Y&R and Days remain on Global to this day. After NBC cancels Another World and debuts Passions, CTV also picks up Passions. CTV broadcasts Passions for about a year then Passions moves to Global where it remains until its cancelled by NBC. B&B remains on CTV to this day. As the World Turns moves from CHCH to Global where it remains until its cancelled by CBS. CBC drops All My Children and doesn't pick up any more soaps afterward. I'm still curious if viewers in Buffalo could get Global Toronto and watch the day-ahead Y&R.

Racism and racial representation on soaps
I had forgotten about the Diego race change recasting. The Keesha race change recasting was worse though. Y&R recently had a South Asian character, Ravi, but he was basically Raj from Big Bang Theory without the accent.

Racism and racial representation on soaps
Taylor the Desert Princess (B&B) was somewhat offensive and it would not work today. The recasting of Y&R's Keesha from an actress of Puerto Rican heritage to an actress of Italian heritage. Keesha's race was never stated but it was implied that she was African-American.

Y&R: Old Articles
I wonder why EB wouldn't submit his name for the Lead Actor Emmy. I don't remember him mentioning much about the Emmys in his book. 1998 was his 5th nomination and I was getting scared that he was approaching Susan Lucci losing streak territory. EB didn't get a People cover story when his streak was over though. You should get a medal 🤗 The 1992 episode has a Nikki/Katherine scene, so MTS must have squashed her beef w/ JC by then. From what I could tell based on what was onscreen and what I've read, the MTS/JC beef was from 1990-1992.

Did the Santa Barbara writers throw a bunch of Middle Eastern names at a wall and picked the ones that stuck?

Have you come across any Buffalo/Niagara Falls listings? I'm curious to know if viewers there could get Global Toronto. Thanks in advance

Ratings From the 90's
From @Soapsuds upload, it looks like the week of June 23-27, 1997 has Y&R at 7.2 and Days at 6.9. Thanks @Soapsuds and @Pine Charles for the uploads.

Ratings From the 90's
@Soapsuds It was mentioned in the Y&R Classics thread that there was a week in June 1997 where Days was only 0.3 behind Y&R. Do you have the ratings for that month?

Ratings From the 90's
@Soapsuds Thanks for posting these 1990s rankings. We'll get to see how much the ratings dropped due to OJ and how close James Reilly's sci-fi Days came to Y&R during summer 1997.

Ratings From the 90's
By 1990, B&B had more affiliate clearance than it did from 1987-1989 so I would imagine the Y&R viewers carried over. Plus by 1990, Bill Bell figured out which characters were working and which weren't, ie. the Spectra gang became prominent while the Logan family was phased out.

B&B: Old/Classic Discussion & Articles
Monday February 19, 1990 was President's Day and CBS aired a NBA regular season game that afternoon. CBS had the broadcasting rights for NBA from 1973-1990. CBS Sports pre-emptions for B&B AFAIK were US Open (1987-2014), NBA regular season games (President's Day 1989, President's Day 1990), March Madness (1991-2019), Winter Olympics (1992, 1994, 1998).

Y&R: Old Articles
I think Lauren's 1984 stories were her singing career, the marriage to Paul, and the arrival of her mother JoAnna. 1985 was the second of Terry Lester's four consecutive nominations for Lead Actor. Sadly Terry never got a Lead Actor win, but if you look at the 1984-1987 Lead Actor races, the competition those years was tough.
