Catching up on this thread this evening and found this interesting…I don’t recall Nouri being considered at all for OLTL but instead Nouri was cast on Y&R in 2004 as the unscrupulous Chancellor Industries CEO Elliot Hampton who was briefly engaged to Jill in early 2005. Now 20 years later Nouri’s character is long forgotten but that story of Jill and Nouri’s Elliot did provide the catalyst of Y&R finally making Chancellor Industries relevant again after like 25 years. It also gave way to the false retcon narrative of “St Katherine the very successful businesswoman!” @YRfan23

Thinking of other bad moves by well regarded writers/EP’s I haven’t seen mentioned yet but also came to mind… Re: Bell at Y&R. I’ll start here with a couple more of his misses not yet mentioned… -Overkill of too much Cricket, especially 1988-91 or so. -Blade/Rick story being the answer to Marlena’s possession. -The Audrey North that went south. Seriously still befuddles me to this day like what was the point? As for Kay Alden, I just have one word: SPERMGATE. As for Marland at ATWT, I do think his descent into writing the show into a state of permanent melancholy in 1992 was off putting. Scott/Lisa. Margo’s rape, Holden’s accident and subsequent “permanent amnesia”, mousy Vicki Harper being the one who ordered Carolyn’s execution, Ellie’s abortion and later shunning, and Hal’s “death” in succession was overkill and got the show into a dark place. The acting was superb but it was also depressing at the same time. I do assume Marland was in a dark place personally though. Also from what I’ve seen, all his attempts to recreate Holden/Liiy/Dusty with various characters all flopped or imploded. Also for ATWT we had the situation of Felicia Minei Behr. Well regarded at AMC, but totally out of her element at ATWT.

There has always been a long shadow cast over Y&R’s racial history. Whether it was Mamie or Tyrone with whiteface in the 80’s, to the situation regarding the two actresses cast as Keisha in the 90’s, to the dismissals of Rowell and Sherwood in the ‘00’s, to the disgusting “get this black story up and pumping” ’under MAB with her Winters Wednesdays, to Mal Young wanting to replace all the Winters with the Rosales, and more recently Josh Griffith creating and then fumbling most idiotically a new black family he created that had Major potential. While I celebrate Y&R successes with diversity, It definitely hasn’t been always been pretty to watch over the last 40 years with lots of cringe, eye roll moments, and a few cuss words thrown towards TPTB.

Mamie so far as I know has always been her real name just like First Lady Mamie Eisenhower (The Golden Girls once made a joke about this regarding the uncomfortable closeness to the other word when Blanche’s own nanny came to visit. Jill’s relationship to Mamie was on a basis of classism, similar to Jill’s views of Esther. At first glance you’d think there would be racial undertones but it was never explored at all except for a upstairs vs downstairs basis. I mentioned it a while back in another thread recently regarding the presumedly AA character Keisha Monroe being played by not one but two actresses who were not of AA descent. Despite some grimaces and rumblings most viewers seem to not even bat an eye and Keisha’s actual race was never mentioned.

Thanks starting this…definitely wayyyy before my time and existence but interesting to look through nonetheless. I never knew Hazel aired its final season on CBS. I remember trying to watch reruns of that years ago and found it appallingly bad LOL. My Three Sons move from ABC to CBS and William Fawley leaving due to bad health proved more successful….though I will say I’m always surprised to see how long the show lasted and how it was milked to death. The later years could’ve easily been a brand new show compared to the earlier years Interesting to see CBS just dominate and also display a wide variety of mostly higher quality programming.

I went back and looked a you’re right, I think it’s Rory as well now that I zoomed way in. I didn’t recognize him with the dark hair. I also still don’t want Rory back as Noah ever though lol. Same. It works also so much better too when most of the cast can actually engage themselves as well when they thrown a bone.

So, according to Luna’s letter she will basically be seen every Friday from now on writing her love letters to Bill. Great! NOT.

Friday 11/15 A solid week ends on a high note. High points include unhinged Sharon’s confessions to Nick, Jack and Diane’s confession to Kyle, and Audra catching the bouquet. The one low point has got to be the ramblings of Billy vowing revenge blah blah blah. Old news. Couple random musings: -I spied a picture of Robert Adamson’s Noah on the fireplace mantle in Sharon’s cabin so I guess Rory Gibson’s mopey Noah has been permanently erased lol? -Sally, despite designing Abby’s dress mentioned she chose not to attend the wedding so she could avoid running into Adam, but Adam didn’t even attend either unless I missed him the background…In fact I thought it was sad Adam didn’t attend Heather’s funeral last week . Six good episodes in a row, let’s hope the streak continues into next week. @BetterForgotten LOL Thanks for the laugh!

First off watching this Thursday 11/14 episode, my gosh it is so gorgeous! For a moment I felt like I was rewatching the 2003 art gala event all over again during the reception scenes. Not to mention in addition to JW, we also had MTS, ED, and especially SW all looking so regal. After last week’s hot mess of a green screen funeral for Heather, the car fire scenes in the woods with Phyllis actually looked decent for a change. Another solid episode again. I too loved Audra’s major shade 😁 As for the ending, wow. Obviously this is pretty campy for Jordan and Ian Ward to be back, but you know let Colleen and Wise have their fun. I do wonder if Y&R had considered bringing Haiduk back as Patty considering she was Ian Ward’s last partner in crime (and maybe harboring an alive Heather) but I assume Haiduk is too busy on Days to pull double duty.

I definitely second this as well. There’s been a decent number of moments and episodes scattered here and there since, but nothing this consistent. Jill be nice to Esther…? Nah never lol besides Esther started it.

Two big weddings for the 12000th and 13000th episodes. I predict the 14000th will another Abby wedding too LMAO The long shadow of Spermgate. I think if anything Victor and Ashley should’ve been given a kid back during their early 90’s marriage, but also allow John Abbott III to live as well just to complicate their feud even more. For starters Abby has never been given anything significant to do. To quote my post from last month in Y&R’s October Discussion thread:

Completely agree!! I was totally in love with her look today they did a great job between the hair and the dress of what a diva Jill should be! ❤️ Another good episode today. I was a little underwhelmed going in at first by it being another monumental episode a with Abby wedding, but there actually more focus of everything else to make it work. Key moments I enjoyed: Yolanda/Harmony AND Ana back. The show dropped a huge ball squandering Loren Lott, it’s never too late to say sorry is it? Jill’s scenes with Billy The Jack and Ashley scenes and catching up…I was a bit surprised Ashley didn’t know what happened with Jack and Nikki but then again she wasn’t herself was she? Sharon vs Phyllis coming to a head with the car crash…not everything is at it seems is it? And finally, I loved seeing Diane just casually slip in at the last moment in the back.

I’m confused about Electra’s heritage…I thought she was Jessica’s daughter but then Ivy mentioned she is her brother’s daughter…? WTF. This show deserves a grade of Z- for November sweeps. Nick Newman Jr is also underwhelming……The stalker story already? He’ll probably turn out to be some lost kid of Sheila’s or the lost kid named Jack.

Oh definitely agree! Remember when MAB wanted to recast Jill with Mel Harris or tried replacing both MTS and JW with Genie Francis’ Genevieve character? Major yikes! Same thing goes with Ashley Abbott….Bell loved writing for Ashley and had her recast twice. Meanwhile everyone who wrote out Ashley ended up getting fired shortly afterwards ie Latham, MAB & Co, Mal Young. And @Taoboi I should go back and snap up a shot of Eileen’s shot in today’s opening as well. Personally I’d love to a divas only opening for one of these special episodes lol. @YRfan23 @Taoboi I’d say the diva opening should feature the classic trio of MTS, JW, and TEB first, throw in MS and SW, add CH, ZS, and AL for our modern ladies and close out with BM and ED. 😄

Oooh that’s actually something I hadn’t even thought about. I’d go with the modern UK approach but for whatever reason when US soaps have tried that it looks rather bad. Then again the last thing BTG should look like is how Y&R looked right before Ed Scott’s recent return lol. And hopefully this will be better than Passions my friend! I still remember watching live and letting my jaw drop and saying WTF? in the 1st 10 minutes when the little Angel girl appeared right before the opening credits 🙈🤣

I know is Jess’ preference but I will always blame MAB & Co for trying their best to ruin the character or write Jill off. Just beautiful! Today Tuesday’s episode didn’t disappoint either with the Victor/Jill scenes and the Sharon/Phyllis scenes. OMG!

Hooray!! Glad to see we finally have an airdate!! 🙂🙂🙂🙂 I was really was hoping for January but this works. Actually a bit surprised they didn’t wait a week for March 3rd so all 3 soaps could have March anniversaries. I also echo the sentiment that classic Y&R and B&B episodes should air in between the gap. I recall CBS airing bonus Y&R and TPIR episodes during the gap between ATWT and the Talk, but all the episodes were from the MAB era except re airing Michael and Lauren’s 2005 wedding. I anticipate this shall be the 4th time I will see a soap debut live after The City, Sunset Beach, and Passions. The DVR will definitely be set if I can’t.

ALL OF THIS!!!! 🙂🙂🙂 I’m finally all caught up as well, both Friday and today’s episodes were definitely classic throwbacks indeed. I think one highlight I hadn’t seen mentioned yet for me of Friday’s episode was seeing Victoria, Nick, Adam and Abby actually all come together and actually act like siblings for a change, something I don’t ever remember seeing in like ever lol. One thing I will give JG credit for (and I figure this one has a lot to do with Scott as well) is for the most part when it comes Y&R nostalgia it’s always a home run. Today’s episode 11/11 worked as well for a follow-up for both Thursday and Friday. Ashely’s back, Jill’s back, and is crazy Sharon about to write “I HATE MYSELF” on Phyllis’ mirror after gaining access with a maid’s key…? This week I’m actually looking forward to for a change!

Well said @Khan and @Vee I agree and can relate to both your sentiments as well. Same as well @DRW50 I don’t get too political ever but I did want to check on all my SON people after the election. This past entire election year has actually left me very fatigued with the whole process as well as dismayed. I figured going in Harris was going lose. I still voted for her yet braced for the prospects as this country will always be racist, sexist and homophobic at the end of the day, never fails. I don’t know what the future holds for except unless I get taken out by a bus I can survive the next 4 years whatever crap gets hurled. Silver lining? Idiots like Joe Rogan, Matt Walsh, and Ben Shapiro already at a loss because they can’t thrive off their usual conspiratorial spin anymore.

Interesting to see that the Luna-tic made an appearance as I assumed we’d never see her again. I wonder where this story is going next…I mean has there been a trial yet lol? I imagine Bill gets her out by Christmas lol.

Finally!!!!! MTS had looked so homely for a few months and it was totally awful to see her dressed so poorly. I’m so glad to see them finally giving style to her again. Susan Walters looked amazing as well as finally the Thursday ep gave us official clue it’s all been a setup.

Glad to read your thoughts as always! I definitely agree it was actually interesting to see the Phyllis/Sharon stuff for a change with Stafford for once was toned down and wait for it, not giggling either! Kyle and Claire are indeed boring but it was at least fun to see Summer just kind of break it up lol. Sure she has her own man in Chance but in a way it still serves Kyle right that he has to be at her beck and call lol. Actually Claire deserves better than Kyle anyways lol Kyle is such a weak manchild she really should be using him the same way Summer and Audran have Disappointed the show is going forward with Billy and Sally. UGH, but hey I can’t wait to see Billy get a deserved whipping from Jill! ❤️

One could hope!!! I know l the Pluto TV soaps channel was discontinued recently because Sony failed to renew their deal, which also saw the end of both the Jeopardy and Wheel of Fortune channels as well (among a few other shows pulled like Y&R) so I wonder if this could evolve into something more….

Knowing how long her marriages usually last she’ll probably be also getting married again by the time the 14,000th episode rolls around. Lol what an egregious mistake. That character always seems to haunt Y&R every know and then.
