  1. Didn’t see this posted yet, but I will say SOD’s assessment of the show is spot on, especially with Worst Quad, Most Boring Story, and Most overused plot device: https://www.soapoperadigest.com/photos/young-and-restless-the-best-and-worst-of-2024/
  2. Thanks as always @kalbir! We’ve well established that Falcon Crest was without a doubt a timeslot hit. It's amazing to see the difference Dallas made as the lead-in for Falcon Crest. For example to go back FC’s Season 4, the episode Confessions aired behind Dallas season finale and had a 22.0 rating, while a week later a repeat of Caddyshack was FC's lead-in and the rating dropped to 16.4 even though it was the season finale. It's strange that CBS didn't plan better because Dallas and Falcon Crest both had 30 episodes that season, yet Falcon Crest ended a week later. On March 1st, CBS aired a rerun of The Wizard of Oz so Dallas didn't start until 10pm, I wonder what the point was. We as fans can be happy about being a time-slot because I don't think without Dallas Falcon Crest would not have made nine seasons as it’s lead-in.
  3. I decided to look up answer to my own question as I was so curious about this... Here are the ratings for the Top 30 Shows for the week of May 19-25, 1986. Seems a large number of repeats dominated with season finales thrown like Dynasty also thrown in the mix. The Love Boat's series finale fell just outside the Top 30. 1. The Cosby Show (NBC) 28.4 (Repeat) 2. Family Ties (NBC) 26.4 (Repeat) 3. MOVIE: Perry Mason: The Case of the Notorious Nun 23.3 (New) 4. Dynasty (ABC) 21.9 (New) 5. 4. Interesting brain teaser for sure. So many 80’s shows would get bumped around either in there first season before settling in or later seasons as they aged. Hart to Hart had bumped Fantasy Island to Friday nights at 8 but that was short lived after Hart to Hart moved and Fantasy Island returned to its traditional slot for the rest of its run. Trapper John largely aired on Sundays at 10 until Winter 1986 when CBS began to move the flailing show around all over the schedule. Yeah Falcon Crest pretty much aired all its episodes on Friday nights at 10, except for those last 4 episodes CBS burned off on Thursdays at 9. There was also the curious case of the Season 5 season finale (earthquake cliffhanger) airing on a Thursday night @10pm, mainly due to it being last day counted for May sweeps. I don’t know what the ratings were for that. Knots stayed in the 10PM Thursday slot forever except for a brief move to 9PM early in the 86-87 season Other than a brief move to 9:30 its first season, Cheers pretty much ran in the 9:00 Thursday slot from 1983-93.
  5. Nielsen Ratings from 30 years ago for December 5th-11th 1994: The Nielsen TV ratings for last week shake down to a seasonal pattern, with 'E.R.' the only new show making a regular appearance on the top 10 program list. The ratings for the week ending Dec. 11 put 'Home Improvement' back at the top of the list, a spot that has been successfully challenged several times recently by 'Grace Under Fire,' the A.C. Nielson Co. reported Tuesday. The competition is a matter of joy for one of the networks -- ABC -- which has both shows. 'Home Improvement' got an unusually high rating of 22.3 and a 33 percent share of viewers, and 'Grace Under Fire' rated 21.5-32. Indeed, ABC is emerging as the dominant network for the 1994-95 TV season, with a 12.2 rating and 20 percent share of the viewing audience so far. Last week it registered 12-19, followed by NBC with 11.7-19 and CBS 10.7-17. Fox made a showing of 7.2-12 with only 15 hours of programming, compared to the networks' 22. ABC took Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday audiences. CBS claimed its usual dominance on Saturday and Sunday, leaving NBC with its hold on Thursday only. ABC and NBC each took four of the top 10 spots and CBS claimed two. The list included 'E.R.,' NBC's popular medical drama, in third place, followed by 'Seinfeld;' 'NYPD Blue;' '60 Minutes;' ABC's Monday night football game, Los Angeles Raiders vs. San Diego Chargers; NBC's Sunday night movie, 'National Lampoon Christmas,' a rerun; 'Murder, She Wrote;' and 'Mad About You.' Dropping down to the top 20 list, only three other shows introduced this season were included. They are NBC's 'Madman of the People,' No. 13, NBC's 'Friends,' No. 16, and 'Me and the Boys,' No. 19. ABC was the leader, as it always is, in evening news coverage, registering 11-21. CBS was second with 9-18 and NBC third with 8.8-17. Each rating point represents about 942,000 households. A share is the percentage of TV sets in use that are tuned into a particular show or network. 1. Home Improvement ABC 22.3 2. Grace Under Fire ABC 21.5 3. E.R. NBC 21.0 4. Seinfeld NBC 20.7 5. NYPD Blue ABC 19.0 6. 60 Minutes CBS 18.2 7. Monday Night Football ABC 17.7 8. National Lampoon Christmas NBC 15.6 9. Murder, She Wrote CBS 15.4 10. Ellen ABC 15.1 11. Mad About You NBC 15.1 12. 6. Ah yes I can see it now in 2035 Ridge will be played Chad Duell, Taylor played by Camilla Banus, and 75 year old KKL will still be opening those legs 😅
  7. Reasons why I wished at some point that Sony had released Y&R classic episode collections on DVD around the same time SoapClassics was doing their thing with ATWT and GL while B&B was released internationally. One of my Y&R Christmas wishes for 2025 (besides the show getting a competent and successful new HW lol) is that classic stuff turns up on that upcoming YT channel in 2025.
  8. OMG! Wow what a fabulous Christmas present!!!! 😍😍😍 @YRfan23 @kalbir Completely agree with this sentiment as well. Mealor may not be the best actor but he is the best Kyle we’ve ever had lol at least since his return in 2022. He does do better with stronger dominant actresses like AL and ZS, but of course their characters have settled for Alpha males at the moment as opposed Beta male Kyle lol. @Taoboi believe it or not you’re actually ahead of me too, but now that I have a 2 1/2 week break ahead I’m about binge watch this weekend to catch up (for better or worse from some recaps & comments I read 😅)
  9. In 2035 B&B will probably be all about the Spencer half sisters Beth and Kelly fighting over Clarke Garrison’s great-grandson Clarke IV by that point. 🤣 Late to the party but I just absolutely love the promo and gotten myself completely excited! I’m so thrilled and can’t wait for the premiere. I did watch the Talk’s final episode today as well, just to see what they had to say. Didn’t seem like a sad occasion but rather good celebration of what they had at least since Chenbot & Sharon left. I’m quite sure they will all end up with new gigs soon enough.
  10. It’s pathetic and absurd. If Ridge was really hurt and angry, why not rush to go confront Brooke? or at the very least leave a demanding text or voicemail they need to meet now. Reminds me of when Liam easily could have flipped on the lights upon seeing Thomas making out with the Hope mannequin, yet he cowardly chose to run off and have sex with Steffy instead. Just gross, unnecessary, not even rational tbh.
  11. What I’ve always hated about B&B for the last 20, 30 years is how much Ridge can flip flops between these two with very little to no consequences for him yet either Brooke or Taylor always get punished and/or banished. It’s beyond disgusting. There was that rare moment where the two finally dumped him back in late 2022 which was great but of course just wasn’t going to last. Ridge 2.0 running off to Taylor 3.0 because he got his feelings hurt is gross and old, nobody asked for this. Imagine if these three weren’t stuck in a constant on again off again triangle since 1992 and had been allowed to flourish with other partners for an extended period ie Brooke with Thorne for years, or Bill, Ridge & Taylor having a long term marriage in the style of Tom & Margo on ATWT, or Taylor with James and Ridge meeting a brand new love interest who happens to be a rival designer like Syndey Penney’s character. So many, many, many, lost opportunities and wasted potential.
  12. No love for Alf…? 🤣🙈 (Although it would get bigger in the following season). Like the 84-85 and 85-86 seasons I do think the 86-87 season was one of the three quintessential seasons 80’s as it had still had a good mix of healthy older and newer hits amongst all three networks. At least 3 of the 4 primetime soaps were still decent shape, except for Dynasty which was a mess. Still a top 30 finish though for all four. Hotel ended up being at #42 surprised that it was still edging out St. Elsewhere like that. That Thanksgiving 1986 schedule was horrible though. Smokey and the Bandit III really??!? No wonder NBC repeats won the night.
  13. Yikes at this news. I love Jamie too but I can’t see it. The only way I could see this even possibly working is if they did a format something akin to the recent Matlock show, in not being a reboot or remake but a complete new show with a twist ie Something like an aging female investigator who’s a big MSW fan or something who’s also has a hidden agenda. I remember this. At the time I did think Lansbury’s comments were cringey as I thought it was directed towards Octavia herself but it was really the project itself. Thankfully upon revisiting I realized she praised Octavia in a couple different interviews during and after the fact.
  14. Just terrible. I’m surprised that Lorimar let those credits fly like that compared to their other shows. The 1/12-1/18/81 ratings for Midland Heights, airing at 10PM on Saturdays on CBS had it at #65 out of 67 shows that week. Ouch! Meanwhile King’s Crossing aired on ABC Saturday nights in January & February 1982 at 8PM leading into the Love Boat & Fantasy Island, both still Top 30 shows. It flopped, season ranking was #79 out of 105. Its replacement show in the same slot was, TJ Hooker which was a hit right out of the gate and also a Top 30 show for the 81-82 season. Obviously King’s Crossing’s being a flop didn’t affect either career or Mary Frann or Linda Hamilton. Poor Doran Clark though, who was cast in starring Roland in one short lived primetime soap one after the other throughout the 80’s (Midland Heights, Kings Crossing, Emerald Point, Nightingales) before her career just fizzled out.
  15. I know we discussed that Michael Filerman’s King’s Crossing was basically a Falcon Crest clone, and you can tell even in these opening credits (I would’ve loved to see Beatrice Straight more on primetime soaps). That said, the theme music is TERRIBLE though and the credit font feels more like a sitcom.
  16. Hope will probably be having an affair with Bill that Steffy highly disapproves of 🤣🤣
  17. Of course! Then by next Christmas we’ll probably get someone like Kelly Monaco as the new new new Taylor and it will go like this: *Knock on Steffy’s door, Steffy goes to answer it, and gasps to see Taylor* Taylor: Merry Christmas Steffy!! Steffy: Dr. Taylor Hayes!! Mom! You’re home!! Taylor: Yes Steffy, I Taylor Hayes to decided to come to my family. *Finn enters* Finn: Dr. Taylor Hayes!! It’s good to see you come home for Christmas!
  18. While I’m absolutely still in hysterics over Ridge’s behavior, does anyone actually care about this Remy/Electa stuff or Lunacy’s return?
  19. Oh yes Mack’s remarks and later drunkenness was way over the top and annoying. Richard coming back and ranting at them all "LAURA LEFT HERE TO DIIIIIIIIE!" like he wasn't solely responsible for the turmoil of her life made me cackle. Abby didn't even like Laura but even she was outraged by his tantrum. Richard blaming everyone else but himself is so Richard. I read years ago on the net (could be on knotslanding.net) that David Jacobs, who had initiated and directed these 2 episodes (the cast had spent a couple of days preparing their lines at Jacobs' ranch, actually Sumner's ranch in KL) had been a bit disappointed by the result.
  20. The Noises Everywhere episodes are definitely a real highlight of Season 9 as I really enjoyed all the performances. I too found the scenes with Jill seeing the urn hysterical as well…also I always felt Abby’s warning “the 1st Mrs Ewing never goes away” to be the the one thing that finally pushed Jill over the edge because after that, Jill’s attitude to Val quickly turns sour.
  21. Really enjoyed today’s episode especially with the Nate & Audra scenes. ZS did a fabulous job showing off Audra’s very rarely seen vulnerable side….i think this is the first time in 2 years the show has actually explored what Audra’s drive is.
  22. Y&R: John Abbott never learned Ashley wasn’t his biological daughter before he passed. Neil never found out that Ashley had cheated on him with Tucker while they were in a relationship. ATWT: Jennifer Munson never learned that Hal wasn’t her biological father before she passed.
  23. Completely agree with all of this!!! Well said @Khan
  24. Gosh what a mess….between his death and Linda’s murder shortly afterwards, sheesh. (I don’t know why Latham & Co. left the back half of S12 Knots a mess like they did.) Always felt Claudia got her karma as the show progressed. I’ve always adored Kathleen Noone but Claudia is such a messy unlikable character as was Galina’s Kate.
  25. Agree it should have been Y&R reruns but I figured it was going to be TPIR. Question for anyone that knows @Errol but do any Eastern stations actually air LMAD at 3PMET anymore? I know my CBS station did for the first 2-3 years after GL ended before moving to 10. Seems everyone had it on at 10. I know there’s a number of CT and MT stations that air it at 2PM though.
