After barely stomaching through today’s episode I am guessing that 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

Y&R: Baby Mama Cast
I am surprised that they didn’t attempt to cast a “named” actress for this part. Had this been a few years ago I could see them totally casting someone like Sarah Brown, Jamie Luner or Terri Conn in the role. (Except for MAB who probably would have cast Tracey Gold lol). I imagine budget and toxicity is probably at all play. Mischael Morgan as Hilary I do believe. Hopefully she is good but it seems anytime someone shows potential they are on the chopping block, especially in the last couple years.

HBO Max: It’s a Sin
Good points. I enjoyed a lot Davies' QAF and Bob & Rose back in the day and of course Doctor Who but it was Torchwood where I first started feeling great malaise with Davies' work. I didn't watch Years & Years either due to negative word of mouth about the show's conclusion. Didn't mean to make it sound I was knocking Davies down to Murphy's level, just thinking in terms of being over-rated/overhyped. RM's stuff on Netflix is horrible, and I had to take a long shower after managing to barely stomach through Season 2 of Pose.

HBO Max: It’s a Sin
I hadn't thought about Davies in forever until recently in my news feed an article about his new show and him calling the BBC doomed or something came up. I think the last actual show by him I watched was Cucumber several years ago, it was very disappointing with all the gay men on the show being unlikeable one-note sex-obsessed sociopathic narcissists. I may check it out myself to see how it goes; I had heard his last couple TV shows get hyped up but then end up as trainwrecks by the end. Britain's Ryan Murphy?

Sunset Beach Discussion Thread
LOL I was reading that and almost spit out my tea I'm sipping on when I saw that about Elaine and Paula. I am wondering what that means as well about the "acting" part as I liked Elaine and Paula and both Laura Harring and Leigh Taylor-Young are both competent successful actresses so I wonder what the exact issue was unless they just completely ran out of story for the two that fast. Especially since I felt Elaine was so vital to the Sunset Beach canvas it was odd not to even bring her back with AJ came to town, that would have been interesting. 1. That Ricardo vs. Antonio story sounds like total overkill even for Beach. Sure a massive fight between the two but for Ricardo to become evil and try to murder Antonio? Glad it never played out. 2. Lisa Guerrero returning? Would have been a complete disaster as if her first go around wasn't bad enough. 3. I agree, having no story projections or thought method is pretty bad storytelling for soaps which is I think Beach suffered a lot during its final year. Unless DePriest & Whitesell had finally run out of soap clichés and recycled ideas to use lol. I suppose Meg Bennett is also responsible, disappointing for someone who was once a Bell protégé if she didn't plan out storylines either. 4. There was too much Meg. I would have to say Annie was the most interesting leading female character on the show as well. 5. Didn't anyone actually like(or watch) the Amy/Sean/Emily/Brad stuff at all? I barely remember any of it aside from them just hanging out at the beach and getting into surf competitions, it was all FF material to me. 6. Tomlin must have been off his rocker when it came to diminishing Kathleen Noone at the time. They ended up having to work together on Passions when Tomlin served as Director. Which reminds me Tomlin also had to work with Leigh Taylor-Young as well. 7. Just hilarious about Seidman's remarks about Y&R😄 If I recall right Seidman worked on GL & ATWT after Beach ended. She reunited with Tomlin & Whitesell for their 2008-11 Days run which probably explains her fond memories for writing there. Later she followed Josh Griffith around from Hollywood Heights, to Y&R, and Days again before Sussman brought her back. Her scripts were fair to mediocre at best, so I'm guessing she's talking about her Y&R exit when she left out after Sussman was dismissed and not when she first followed Griffith out.

When did "Bold and the Beautiful" stop being good to you?
1994 was the year Bell handed off the reins of the show over to his son. Since then I would say there were at least a couple periods were B&B was just downright fun and entertaining to watch, with the absolute best periods IMO being 1997-1998 and then again for most of 2000-2005ish. At some point the show began a long slippery slope, hard to tell where it began. Maybe it was the unnecessary reveal that Massimo was Ridge's biological father. Maybe it was the Brooke/Deacon affair. Maybe it was when Amber found out she had a long lost twin. One thing for sure is something rotten began occurring on the show. First it was Ridge/Bridget, then Macy's inexplicable second death. The show went further down the slope. Ridge rapes Brooke while she's high on prescription medications, Taylor gets impregnated with Brooke's embryo, the idiotic Constantine story, Stephanie hires a man to seduce Brooke and he ends up raping her. I quit watching regularly with that last one in 2007 and only tuned in occasionally to see what was going or when I knew there was something big going down...of course tuning into see Katie's mermaid nightmare, Pam & Donna on the Price is Right, Beth Logan drowning, Jackie parasailing, all of LA trying to kill Rick, and Taylor getting marred to a horse? Yeah no thanks. I do think the show regained some potential it had and I'd day 2011-2016 weren't as bad as the show finally differentiated itself finally. But of course Thudley has squandered it all and now the show is the same trashy unwatchable rinse & repeat cycle mess it was 2007-2011 that only keeps getting worse.

As The World Turns Discussion Thread
Killing Jennifer Munson off instead of recasting if Ferrin wanted to leave was the point I can pinpoint where I think was the beginning of the end for ATWT. All for Emmy bait, ratings, and a hoping in vain that Spencer Grammer as Lucy would work out(it did not). I'd say Jennifer's death is to ATWT what Frankie's death is to AW and Maureen's death was to GL. Just never recovered. BTW was watching a 1997 episode recently and Bob & Chris were complaining about how bad DeWitt Cereals tasted even though they ate it every morning or something. It was rather bizarre small talk but I found it odd whoever the dialogue writer for the ep went out of their way to mention DeWitt, this occurring during the Demorest/Walsh/Brez era.

Locations of Soap Opera towns
LOL. I’m not sure it was ever fully explained what Spaulding Enterprises did aside from pharmaceuticals, electronics/technologies, and I believe that oddly of all things had a fashion division that Marah did. But I think this was a common issue for soaps to not go into detail about what their company what exactly did lol. Or the case of Newman Enterprises start off as a P&G/Colgate-Palmolive type company that now for some mystery reason also owns offshore oil drilling platforms lol. But your storyline idea would have definitely worked out well; Y&R did it with Newman buying out Jabot and that alone provided juicy drama for a decade. Going back to Springfield this article from 1996 is about the show using downtown Hartford CT locations to pretend to be downtown Springfield: https://www.courant.com/news/connecticut/hc-xpm-1996-07-19-9607190286-story.html

Days: February 2021 Discussion Thread
Back when Jan held up Shawn in the cage I swear I remember there was a moment when Shawn begged Jan to not let wet himself again.🤮 Not surprising fare considering this was around the same time JER was writing pee/poop incidents for both Days & Passions(i.e. Mickey & Julie getting the runs from Bonnie’s spicy chili, Beth crapping herself when she was busted for a lie, Beth’s mom peeing on Beth’s wedding dress to sabotage it etc.)

Y&R: Old Articles
LOL! If there was ever a time to reintroduce the two that was the time in 1994. It would have definitely given Jill a lot more to do than an umpteenth divorce from John. Plus I could definitely see Chuckie being a JT type character and have a lustful affair with an older woman(Lauren? Mari Jo?) while Jennifer would have definitely been an Brittany Hodges-type character.

Mysteriously dropped Storylines
What happened to the Grant family was a tragic mess. If I recall right David’s return in 1998 came right after Charles had his heart attack to a faulty Spaulding produced + Santos mob funded pacemaker. For a brief moment there seemed to be momentum; David swearing revenge, Vicki Brandon revealing herself as a Spaulding, David finding Vivian getting comfort in Griffin’s arms(!) and arguing with Marcus, Vivian being a victim by the Nursery Rhyme Stalker and then absolutely nothing came out of it at all. Worse still is that Marcus & Dahlia lasted a lot longer into 1998 than I remember from what I have seen, still randomly popping up at parties and what not. Carl if you ever want a sad laugh with SoapCentral profiles on characters who got non exits you should read the end of Ellen Stewart’s profile on ATWT.

Mysteriously dropped Storylines
Actually, we do know why he dropped Morgan’s return: Thudley got Hunter Tylo back! However I hated the show wasted Buxton’s talent like that, as I think that has been her last daytime appearance.

Locations of Soap Opera towns
I found it a bit silly Capitol made up some fictional suburb of DC as opposed to using something real like Alexandria or Bethesda etc. Re: GL’s Springfield I have always had to wonder if the show’s location should have just remained in Selby Flats California. I am quite sure there would be a far more diverse representation of the LA area compared to anything B&B has ever done. Good point. Lewis Oil eventually turned into Lewis Construction and it just didn’t sound as interesting when it came to Spaulding vs. Lewis.

Mysteriously dropped Storylines
Interesting that happened the same year as the mysterious psychic that called in the Cole/Victoria/Ryan/Nina quad as well as the Dina/John/Audrey North story that felt so rushed and dropped.

LeMay gave that interview back in the late 90s shortly after his time as a story consultant in the mid-90’s for AW I’m going on have to dig up that one up, I believe it’s the same interview where he kind of trashed Robin Strasser while he was huffing & puffing.

The Media/Journalism Thread
A round of +1’s too all! This reminds me of what a deeply confusing, yet fascinating time the early 00’s were. In soaps, in politics, in fashion, in pop culture...When all is said and done, it’s hard to even say how this era will be remembered. Haven’t seen too much nostalgia for it at all that’s for sure. Speaking of media from that era Justin Timberlake is also getting well deserved major pushback as well between Janet Jackson Appreciation Day for the Super Bowl and the Spears documentary as the media has been so easy on Timberlake to give him free passes: https://www.buzzfeed.com/ehisosifo1/justin-timberlake-britney-spears-problematic-moments No wonder his marriage to Jessica Biel is allegedly on the rocks at the moment.

Y&R February 2021 Discussion Thread
That’s pretty much overkill for CBS News no wonder they’re still struggling with CBSN still. I’d say Y&R and B&B should just continue to release new episodes online like Days does when then get pre-empted.

Y&R February 2021 Discussion Thread
Theo & Sally are fun. It was nice to see Kyle and Summer get knocked down a few pegs and put in their places. Kyle looked like he wet himself or something during that he confrontation. What’s up with the weird wacky one shoulder dress Phyllis had on? Actually I think Lauren wore something similar a while back they look absolutely tacky!

Locations of Soap Opera towns
I remember that!! I think it was around 1996-97 or so when they did it. I remember they put GL’s Springfield right at the Michigan/Indiana border next to Lake Michigan while they placed Days’ Salem in Northern California for some reason.

B&B: February 2021 Discussion Thread
I am afraid that is wayyyy too complicated for Griffith and Thudley to handle!
