YR BB April sweeps
Except for the Y&R spoilers involving Amanda and Sally and maybe Devon/Elena/Nate the rest sounds like complete drivel. The B&B spoilers sound awful. And did I read right, Someone killed involving Brad? Knowing B&B’s recent history this will be his assistant Alison, Sheryl Underwood’s character Emmy, Kelly Kruger’s character, or ending up being Justin. Or someone really random coming back like Amber lmao. And then turn out they didn’t die at all.

Legacy Character Returning To YR
Oh good lord I thought I had blocked that out along with that picture of EW Malcolm and his sandwich platter 🤣🤣🤣 Will be interesting to see if see gets any type of story for sure. The stuff involving Reed, Charlie and Maddie was embarrassing. Whatever happened to Shauna anyways, she get shipped back into foster care? Was there ever an explanation of how she left?

Accent Work on Soaps: The Good, The Bad, and The Godawful
I was going to say something about VW’s sudden accent after Justine but I forgot. I was wondering if working with Keating had rubbed off on her as well. When SoapNet began rerunning AW reruns it was very nice to hear VW using her regular voice again. She used a stronger Brooklyn accent when she guest starred on SVU in 2007.

Days: March 2021 Discussion Thread
That’s because Renee was written as a smart lady; Marlena & Sandy Horton not so much when they saw “Roman” kill the prostitute in the alley. LOL at this point demonic possession and something like “Nighttime” Hope are far more plausible plots than the endless doppelgänger stories whether it’s a face mask (remember Faux Rafe lol) or a long lost twin.

Accent Work on Soaps: The Good, The Bad, and The Godawful
LOL I agree that Brenda Dickson’s accent worked out well in a funny way and Dickson really sold it so well there in 1986 as silly as it was. There was just something so fascinating about Jill’s overall victory lap there from 1986-1989ish had it been any other soap Jill would have failed miserably and learned a lesson or something yet Y&R allowed Jill to succeed beyond anyone’s wildest dreams that she got the respect she always wanted. Hunter Tylo’s attempt at a British accent in 1995 on B&B was laughable AF though.

It would be nice if Hope could move on from Liam and Thomas as well. Maybe B&B could start fresh again by bringing on either new characters or someone like Dino Damino, if there is any creativity left at all with Thudley.

DAYS/DOOL: Another Horton Exits Salem
3...2...1 to Thudley bringing Godfrey back to B&B as Caroline’s long lost twin sister Kara/Cara or something 🙈

Y&R: Old Articles
Thanks @kalbir I have the 2/21/97 ep here and both Heather Tom and Josie Davis are in that episode. The rapid succession of recasts was pretty jarring at the time. I remember always seeing the fire at Sasha’s as being the turning point when the show got things moving again after almost a year of stagnation since Nathan’s death.

Y&R: Old Articles
The funny thing was it did create up a bit of a stir on the Internet at the time from what I remember amongst older fans, even so far as to creating a Mandela effect for some older viewers as a few were quite sure that they *did* remember the Carl disappearance storyline. With Y&R not being one to do retcons at that point or definitely felt out of place, and the story wasn’t that great. I’ll always remember Leslie Bevis for her hilarious Star Trek parody character in the movie Spaceballs more than anything else.

Y&R: Old Articles
April 1997 with a week full of the eps is up in the Vault, boy with the 4/11/97 it certainly is attack of recasts with Sarah Aldrich, Sandra Nelson, and Sherri Shattuck all being heavily featured in the episode. Of the three Nelson is by far and beyond the best of course; Sarah Aldrich is dreadful in her scenes with Ryan, while Ashley is the stuck in the depths of hell with a triangle between her, Kurt, and Hope developing. Hopefully the rest of the week gets better lol.

I was personally wondering if Liam and/or Scott Clifton just had a bad case of gas during that reveal scene.

When did Josh Griffith became a bad writer? Or when Good Writers take a turn for the worse
I wonder how far in advance warning did Van Ark get lol? There was quite some time passed between Van Ark leaving at the end of 2004 and Latham first getting credited as a story consultant in late 2005. That said, Van Ark did have major creative differences about how Gloria should have been. I recall JVA saying she wanted Gloria to be like “Drea de Matteo“ but said the show wanted her to basically play an Alexis/Abby clone, and that management wouldn’t budge and she felt like an outsider.

B&B: March 2021 Discussion Thread
Lol pretty much. I can so see after the birth & honeymoon Finn having a psycho ex-wife out there show up unexpectedly, the ex-wife being some lost daughter of Deacon and therefore is Hope’s half-sister. B&B would concoct a connection like that. Or Finn having a past with Shauna lol. Or Thudley goes to the Grant/Macy route to have Finn drop dead just when Finn & Steffy are at their happiest. Speaking of Grant... Grant was pretty much the last real versatile non-Forrester man on this show, and that was over 20 years now.

B&B: March 2021 Discussion Thread
What should happen: Thomas is very interested curious by Vinny’s feelings in the aftermath of the paternity switch and explores them with Hope’s support but cautious concern to get closer to Vinny. What will probably happen: Thomas & Hope become lovers after Hope kicks Liam to the curb, but then Thomas suddenly disappears and leaves a “Dear Jane” letter for Hope urging her to be with Liam after all. Thomas then wakes up in caged bedroom that Vinny has built a la Lisa Mansfield. Dumb dumb dumb indeed!

When did Josh Griffith became a bad writer? Or when Good Writers take a turn for the worse
You’re right-Malone had started the speed addiction storyline. Under Culliton is when there was the house fire mystery and she skipped town with her son when Joe was wanting her drug tested or something, the details are blurry to me now, Paulina just had all around terrible stories those last 3-4 years the show was on the air.

When did Josh Griffith became a bad writer? Or when Good Writers take a turn for the worse
That’s a good point, there definitely was a lot of interference I suppose the lines of fault definitely get blurred. I was unmoved by Michael’s death as I never liked the character but Carl’s death left me cold. Throw in characters inexplicably going off the rails crazy (ie Paulina) and then in Marley’s case completely insane and obsessed with her rapist ex husband the show was a mess after what I thought had been a slight upswing during Malone’s tenure.

Soaps You Could Never Get Into (It's Not You, It's Me)
LOL I remember my mom saying AMC was her favorite soap to watch until her favorite character was killed off in jet ski explosion. I remember her occasionally tuning to see what was going on in the early 90’s but she never followed it, out VCR was always set for the CBS soaps.

Days: March 2021 Discussion Thread
AND there in lies the problem. Ciara couldn’t have simply fallen in love with some random DiMera baddie relative? A secret son of Megan Hathaway or Benji? Likewise Evan wasn’t a lost child of John & Marlena? No wonder this soap will be the first to drop below a 1.0 LOL

B&B: March 2021 Discussion Thread
This! The quad is would’ve been a lot more interesting if Paris had been interested in Carter as well. Then Paris could’ve confided her interest in Carter to Zende with him telling her pursue Carter all the while Zende is having a full blown affair with Zoe. Yet that would been wayyy too much for Thudley to even dream up to make this quad work. Not to mention Zoe is played by very subpar actress than just comes off annoying. Yikes!

When did Josh Griffith became a bad writer? Or when Good Writers take a turn for the worse
Oh yes her tenure was the height started off with the height of Roman(John) & Marlena, Bo & Hope, and Shane & Kimberly. She also wrote a lot for Patch & Kayla and later Roman/John and Diana but there was a lot of dreck involved with the periphery characters i.e. Alex Marshall's downfall, Doug's return, Bill/Janice/Mike triangle and didn't Pete and Melissa end their marriage on a very out of character note? Thanks @AbcNbc247 for Griffith's credits btw. I think a lot of those soap fans back in the day were still stuck on his Emmy winning work with OLTL from the early 90s. I never watched it aside from a couple eps with Ryan Phillipe's character coming out but I do recall a lot of soap fans hold that era in very high regard. 🤢🤢🤢 I would have the sad deaths to include Jim Lemay's death on Christmas as well, that felt totally unnecessary . The way Patti D'Arbanville's character left the show was pretty disgusting as well.

When did Josh Griffith became a bad writer? Or when Good Writers take a turn for the worse
I forgot about Labine I remember being pumped up at her coming to GL and how that ended in absolute catastrophe. I don’t know how much of that was Rauch & MADD’s fault but it really looked bad compared to newbie Hogan Sheffer’s ATWT at the time and the soap press were more than happy to point that out. I think her late 80’s run at Days was considered well received at least early on but by 1989 the show was falling apart.

When did Josh Griffith became a bad writer? Or when Good Writers take a turn for the worse
The March discussion thread for Y&R reminded me that 15-20 years ago I always remembered Josh Griffith always getting praised as a writer yet here in 2021 he is the absolute worst, this already following a very disastrous run at Days back in 2015-16 and a previous just okay run at Y&R back in 2012-13. The other examples I was thinking of off the top of my head include Richard Culliton, who’s good and bad work cancel each other out. His 1995 ATWT run was great; 1998 at AW was a disaster. Same with Stephen Demorest, his work at GL was fantastic but ATWT was a mess. I have to include Trent Jones on this as well for uneven writing depending on the show. I feel like both Pam Long and Thom Racina deserve mentions as well.
