LOL. This is the part where I wish the show had actually kept Dina on longer than they originally did and have her become more of a vibrant long term character instead of popping up every few years after spending lots of time in spas with younger men or whatever the excuse was. I have read the show almost brought on Marc’s kid sister Danielle Mergeron (think Cricket’s age I guess, maybe even as old as Lauren/Traci) can’t even imagine how that would’ve gone down had they done so. As far as penthouses go lol I hadn’t even thought about that but then again Dallas also gave April a glamorous penthouse as well around the same time too.

Thanks for sharing!!! Just a few thoughts: —This was Amy’s ‘88 exit? I am glad she at least got something as opposed to just disappearing and of course we got her brief 1990 return. Oddly enough 16 years later in 2004 Lynne was given a similar exit as she had leave to help her mother in Ohio or something. - I have seen glimpses of it before but ED’s brunette hair just looks unnatural on her. In fact the hair is so straightened for the late 80s I’m trying to tell if she was actually wearing a wig or not. - How much longer was Marc on the show? His 87-88 return always struck me as odd and from what I can tell it was much ado about nothing about Marc and Joanna’s affair as both SSH and Frank M. Bernard are only three years apart in age. Marc was basically a Dynasty reject on Daytime instead. -The shots of Cassandra that Paul fantasizes about are basically a prelude to how Cassandra and Brittany Norman will later appear in the opening credits of 1988-91

Same with Kyle Lowder as Brady and Jason Cook as Shawn-D by that point 🤣 The first actor who replaced Clarke was too horrible for words; very obese and that’s when they gave Mickey, Julie, and Bonnie were that disgusting chili cookoff story where Mickey and Julie ended up crapping their pants. Then the show recast with John Ingle Clarke left because he wanted to retire, but I wonder if the SSK was too much for him at the time.

Regarding James Stenbeck I had always wondered what would have happened if the show gave Stenbeck some type of reform like Roger on GL or Carl on AW while maintaining a hard edge or transitioned to a Victor Kiriakis type of antagonist. I believe Herrera could have pulled it off. Instead we ended up with a Stefano DiMera type supervillain over time. Herrera did have a dry sense of humor, and that helped bring energy to the proceedings of his later returns as absurd & poorly written as they were. I don’t think daytime ever got to see another side to him though as his other roles on Y&R and as Dane on Loving were just as inimical as well.

LOL at the Holden clones. I think the worst one Marland introduced later on was Hutch. Beau was an interesting addition to the show. Neil Maffin wasn't a bad actor, and while the angsty folksy/pop singer is a cliche, he was at least different from the other young guys on the show at the time. I also liked his relationship with Pam Dixon, who was a believable, sympathetic, intelligent heroine. I think because of the strike or the change in producers he got lost in the shuffle, and he had that strange exit where he sort of got involved with Nella Franklin and they left town together, but not romantically? I wonder if they cut him because they thought Duke was that "type" and they didn't need another.

I remember there being controversy on the web when one of the soap mags or something called Amy Carlson “Best Recast of 1998” when Carlson subbed for Ehlers and it opened up old wounds...22 years ago instead of being united P&G soap fans spent energy arguing about who was the best&worst of the three 🤦

ALL: You couldn’t imagine THEM playing THAT story
The funny thing about RC’s Mike is how they initially teased him with getting paired up with Marlena in late 1994 to the point maybe a dinner date was involved? I can’t remember except Mike being indirectly involved with DiMera at the same time. RC Mike and Carrie interacted briefly for Alice’s funeral in 2010 but as I recall because Mike had been revealed to be an abusive/neglectful father during the 2007 Jeremy story the show left his 2010 return be open ended and have him be undeserving to be there ie he didn’t get to see Alice before she passed.

I can’t imagine HT Victoria playing out any of AH’s stories for the most part at all. Maybe the initial Brad and JT affair storyline but HT getting hit by a biscuit? Just no.

Loved watching this, thanks for sharing! Holly and Gilly were definitely such vibrant women. I had mentioned a few pages earlier how a March 1990 ep made Stingfield look quite older as Blake however a year later this episode does a much better job of styling her better a year later. Eh I never cared for Uncle Stavros though...I think they should’ve kept Pops Cooper around instead.

Michael Crawford is another character difficult to keep track of his stories, timeline, and appearances. Of course he was Jill’s lawyer & lover there 1985-87 but he also had that elusive Mandy Kemper on the side. Then by ‘88-‘89 he was back again in Jill’s life to the point that Jill was hoping to get married to him and of course was involved in the Skip & Carol adoption story and then fades out for good sometime in early 1990. I wonder if Bell ever had long term big plans for the character.

Oh yes, the fight at the Embers!! I was happy ED was the one to resolve the story and actually breathe life into it.

Actually Perry’s Rosanna had become a complete bitchy villainess by the time of her final run in 1999 I could easily have seen Perry’s devolved Rosanna with at the very least HB’s Craig, although Perry wouldn’t have the depth that McClain brought to the role at the time. Personally for myself on Y&R I can’t imagine either ED’s or BED’s Ashley ever hooking up with Cole and be in a triangle with Victoria. That would be beneath both Ashley’s but of course it happened under SS’ Ashley. I definitely can’t see Davetta Sherwood’s Lily ever getting paired with Cane at all LOL. As for B&B I definitely can’t see Nancy Sloan’s Katie be in anything that Heather Tom has done in the role, Sloan was too noisy. Likewise I can’t imagine any of the previous Thomases kiss a mannequin or fake in their death in a possible vat of acid. Their 1992 scenes together at Christmas and for Andy & Courtney’s wedding felt extremely awkward.

I forgot Parros was on Y&R, was that his first soap role? I wonder if he was cast for being on Knight Rider at that time? My Y&R anniversary book says 1986-87 for Parros tenure but as previously discussed the cast listings in the book often very inaccurate so he may have left earlier.

Thanks! That’s good to know he was still being referenced. I know from what I have seen of Carol in 1992 she kind of seemed unhappy working for Victor so I imagine she quit and then was replaced by the Connie Wayne character who just never became vital(although the second actress to play Connie had some modest acting & TV hosting success outside of Daytime)

Speaking of Todd Curtis when did he leave Y&R exactly and did they even write Skip out? I remember reading several years ago something about Skip died in a motorcycle accident offscreen but I that must have been someone’s fan fiction masquerading as a fact as I have found nothing about Skip ever leaving, kind of like how Carol just stopped appearing in late ‘92/early ‘93.

I watched the clips of where Jill hired Drew Pillsbury as David before they were deleted off YT earlier this year and it was hilarious.....I highly doubt Jill’s hiring process was legal at all but it was also funny to know she personally handpicked David to be her secretary knowing what lies down the road.

He later was absolutely dreadful on Dallas as that art museum owner Lucy fell head over heels for, he obviously fell far from the tree as far as talent was concerned. I agree those 1986 GL eps are very unfocused and seem to be a mishmash of everything. Was this Ryder’s tenure? Something I wanted to touch base on with a 1990 episode @Soapsuds had shared was while it was interesting to see some of the fallout from the Dana Jones & Looney Rae Rooney story, I kind of hated the show had styled Sherry Stingfield’s Blake look like she was 35 years old or something. Just awful.

RE: On Alan & Alex’s history I believe Alex was supposed to be the older of the two but I could see it being easily flipped-flopped, here’s what I could find on Spaulding family history in my notes: Who is Susan Piper and why is Donald [R. Schwartz, PhD] waiting for her return? She was Tony and Annabelle Reardon's chain-smoking real estate agent. (I remember Donald posting a rather intriguing description of her once; perhaps he saved it?) [SA] [Here's a note from Donald.] Susan was played by Carrie Nye, who is Dick Cavett's real-life wife. Susan was ugly and lecherous -- long stringy dirty grey/blond hair, she SMOKED -- always taking LONG drags on the cigarette, had an old southern accent, not pretty at all -- and she was EVIL! all of these being WONDERFULLY portrayed -- and making a FABULOUS character who I miss very much... she met her demise by falling into into a lava pit in Barbados (but since they NEVER FOUND THE BODY, there's still hope!). [And from Dale, a summary of Susan Piper's plot.] The characters involved in this heinous story were: Tony and Annabelle Reardon, Jim Reardon and Hillary Bauer, Fletcher Reade and Claire Ramsey,Susan Piper and her sidekick John Young, and Piper's mysterious "boss", whose face we never saw. Tony and Annabelle bought a cottage through Piper Realty, but it was mistakenly sold by a realtor employed there. In reality, Piper was being paid by a mysterious man to take care of the cottage and to make sure that no one went near it. So Piper set out to terrorize Tony and Annabelle at every turn to get the cottage back. Meanwhile, Annabelle was having psychic visions and feeling cold spots in the house. There was lots of weird stuff going on, like secret rooms hidden behind the paneling, strange Caribbean voodoo artifacts, and a painting that cried real tears. Finally, Annabelle realized that sometime in the past, a murder had taken place in the cottage. She had dreams about a black man and a little black girl who was screaming. (I'm not making this up!!) Jim, Hillary, Fletcher, and Claire gradually got drawn into the mystery because of Piper's wicked dealings. Piper, who didn't know who her boss" was, was also trying to find out the cottage's secret so she could blackmail him.She tried to frighten Tony and Annabelle out of the cottage by sending them a bomb in a music box, but Hillary wound up dead after she toyed with the box. The key to the whole mystery was some papers hidden inside an old doll, which proved who Piper's "boss" was. Eventually, everyone ended up in Barbados, where Piper tried to kill them all. Jim fell in love with Annabelle and Tony was jealous. Fletcher and Claire were set adrift in a boat in a storm, but they survived. Piper kidnapped Jim and Annabelle and Tony came to their rescue. Piper met her presumed demise when she fell into a pit of lava (or something like that.) After Piper's "death", everyone gathered at a sugar plantation where they met Victoria Tamerlaine and her aged mother Sharina, who lived with (surprise!!) Piper's mysterious boss. Fletcher, ace reporter that he is, guessed the truth and brought Alex to Barbados, where she immediately recognized Piper's boss as her dead father Brandon, and she promptly fainted dead away on the spot. The story: 40 years before, Brandon had an affair with Sharina, and they had a child, Victoria. Knowing that society would never accept their mixed-race marriage, Brandon planned to move Sharina and Victoria from the cottage to Barbados. But Brandon's wife found out about the affair, and came to the cottage with a gun. She had just given birth to Alan (so Alex IS older!!), and she was very weak. She tried to shoot Sharina, but Sharina's brother Conrad took the bullet as little Victoria screamed. Conrad died on the floor of the cottage, while Brandon's wife (I think Penelope was her name) collapsed after the shooting and died shortly thereafter. Brandon whisked Sharina and Victoria away to Barbados, promising to join them when he could. Later he faked his death (Ha!) and hired Piper to look after the cottage. After this story was told, Brandon and Sharina died on the same day, and Alex and Victoria vowed to be sisters forever. Alex left and we have not heard Victoria's name since. This story was lame because it cheated: Brandon died on camera in a nursing home a few years earlier, as Lucille Wexler watched. First they made us think Amanda was Brandon's daughter, then they revealed that she was Alan's daughter, and now they're saying she's Brandon's daughter again? What's the deal? Let me tell you, it's not pretty. Amanda was raised by crazy Lucille Wexler, who was Brandon Spaulding's one-time mistress. Lucille always believed that Amanda was Brandon's child by another liaison, but on his deathbed, he revealed to her that Amanda was really Alan's daughter, by a woman named Jane Marie Stafford. Jane Marie had worked in the Spaulding home as a teen, and she & the teen-age Alan had a love affair. But Jane Marie never told Alan she was pregnant, and Brandon took care of everything. Jane Marie left town and changed her name to Jennifer. She later married a man named Walter Richards, who died in a car accident in 1980, as they were driving through Springfield. Jennifer & daughter Morgan stayed in town. Lucille, who had been been searching for Jane Marie, finally recognized her in Jennifer. The truth came out, shocking Amanda to the core, and she miscarried the baby she was carrying. Fast-forward to 1997. Roger learns that Alexandra has secret papers that could bring down the Spauldings. He teams up with Amanda to track them down. The "papers" turn out to be Amanda's birth certificate, which shows her parents to be Brandon Spaulding and Jennifer Richards. Amanda is once again shocked to the core & drives Alexandra out of town for keeping this secret for so many years. This latest development raises several questions. How could the teen-age Jane Marie have slept with yucky old Brandon when she had the virile young Alan? If she was sleeping with both of them, how can anyone be sure who the father is without a DNA test? And, most important, why is the mother's name on the birth certificate "Jennifer Richards" when this was a name that Jane Marie Stafford took years after giving birth? A writer's slip, apparently, since if it was deliberate, Alan should have caught the error immediately and pronounced the birth certificate a fake. But maybe he prefers to keep the truth to himself, and Amanda's paternity will be switched once again somewhere down the road.
