Why is Flo still on the show? Why haven’t Quinn and Shauna learned by now to keep their mouths shut instead of incessantly spilling tea every time they see each other? Why am I suppose to care about poor wittle Zoe’s feelings after all she’s done already?

At the time personally I remember she was pretty interesting but the Blade/Rick story turned into a confusing mess. Also Abbott family drama was definitely the show’s “D-plot” behind the Newman’s, Christine/Phyllis, and Winters/Hastings storylines at the time. In retrospect I definitely have to give Diana Barton great credit for making Mari Jo work as the show’s femme fatale. Her arrival is wonderful with her being a spider and spinning her web as she works her way into the Abbott family. She deserved so much better. I mean of all the Y&R characters, Luan as a rival? As icy and calculating as she could be it’s funny her extremely polite and courteous confrontation with Luan in late 1994 should have made both ladies realize Smiling Jack was no good either of them. The bad casting of Blade also was a major hindrance. Sure Michael Tylo was a daytime name from his days on GL but really Blade should have been played by someone like Peter Reckell, Robert Newman, or yes even Stephen Nichols to make it sexy and charismatic. Mari Jo going crazy and shooting Victor was well received however it was also criticized for Mari Jo being out of character to let Jill rot in jail for her crime for a silly motive to shoot Victor was also seen as very weak(especially compared to Brad’s). Maybe if Jill had slept with Ryan and Victor blackmailed her it would’ve been better.

Oddly it may have been one of her last Abbott related stories too. I suppose it made some since at the time it hadn’t been that long she had been a one time step-child of John’s but the following year 1995 was such a transitional year for the character between Phyllis and finally meeting Victor.

I believe Malcolm was actually Y&R’s first actual real back from the dead story back in 2004. I mean Y&R had a history of characters pretending to be dead ie Katherine, Paul, Sheila, Victor but we the audience knew they were alive. However Malcolm was presumed dead for two years before his 2004 return. It should be noted that in 2004 Y&R rode the same wave of back from the dead stories plaguing daytime at the time (hello Days and ATWT!). Since then we’ve had Phillip, Skye, Adam, JT, and Chloe all fake their demises only to pop up alive again. However of the above only Phillip and Skye were the ones we figured would stay dead forever. Adam’s 2010 and 2014 deaths we knew he was still alive, and his 2016 death was also left very ambiguous no matter how much SSM tried to make it seem permanent. And if Keemo ever came back he’d be played by someone like Matt Cedeño or of all things Billy Miller lol. On a side note thanks for sharing. It’s weird Paul & Christine are even the highlight of the promo but I suppose they were in a vacuum between April’s departure and Danny’s return.

+1’s. I had hoped Y&R casting an unknown for the role might be interesting but so far it’s been a dud. The lazy writing is definitely a problem but it be nice to have the Tara character actually bring some energy to the proceedings as well as showing signs of chemistry with Kyle to see why they had an affair. Alas this is Y&R in 2021 though.

Thanks, wow I had always figured they’d at least gotten something, especially since the show was so heavy around Catlin at the time they left from what I have been reading. However Adam definitely quickly filled up Larry’s role in no time. I think I knew that about Porter, was surprised that he came back for Mac’s funeral. Porter quit acting but before he did got cast in a second string villain role on Days to antagonize Justin and Adrienne late 89/early 90. I suppose if Larry and Clarice had stayed any longer they both would’ve been victims of the Sin Stalker as a means to drop them.

So I was reading some 1986 recaps and just had to wonder, did Larry & Clarice actually get an on-screen exit or was it mentioned after the fact?

+1’s to everyone! The writing for Sally has been horrible. She’s been written off in a corner with no viable romance, no friends, no professional occupation etc. It’s really bad. The show should have kept Theo around to make this work but it failed to do so. Instead Sally has a become pointless spoiler for Bummer and has been ruined again in the process. Reminds me of how B&B did her wrong, it’s funny she went crazy over a couple in Wyatt and Flo when Thudley doesn’t even write for them anymore at all.

Wow this sounds boring seriously. And isn’t half of this already happening now? Irmani/Nate/Elena could be interesting as could Ashland/Victoria(provided Victoria gets be extra icy too). Zero mention of Sally unfortunately.

EJ really should’ve have been Benjy or some lost son of Tony & Anna instead of the ridiculous notion he was Elvis, whose own origin was absolutely silly to begin with. A Passions story before there was a Passions lol. EJ had a such a promising start but the whole blackmail rape was a disaster IMO that when EJ and Sami had gross grief sex in 2011 I turned Days off for good for a couple years there, especially since Days had spent two whole years pushing the idea Rafe & Sami were the new Roman & Marlena. As for Carlivati, I’ve seen his name hyped up and also very disparaged lol for years but Days is the first time I’ve seen his work first hand. Entertaining overall but he clearly went to the same writing school of thought with Hogan, Kriezman, Hamner, Pratt etc. when it came to “redeeming” villains. The fact Ben Weston exists is utterly absurd but straight out of Sheffer’s old playbook.

The legacy of Hogan Sheffer and his irresponsible irreparable damage still haunts both Days and Y&R to this day.

Olivia’s confrontation with Nathan didn’t happen until like Feb or March of 1996. If I recall right Dru was with her and epically told Nathan he was “PITIFUL!!!” Nathan left town at end of ‘93/early ‘94 in disgust over the whole Lillie Belle situation, especially as her living with the Hastings took a serious toll on him. The actor Randy Brooks left Y&R for a role on AW which ultimately ended up being thankless unfortunately. At some point later in ‘94 is when Adam Lazarre-White was cast around the same time Vivica Fox was cast. Nathan and Olivia were at that point talking about having a second kid but Nathan was still very disillusioned. I don’t even remember how Nathan met Keesha aside from Olivia getting mysterious phone calls in the summer of 95. Nathan as a villain made for good story at the time but definitely looking back it is very bewildering and heartbreaking they had him go that route. They at least redeemed Nathan’s final days when Olivia reunited with him in Heaven during Olivia’s aplastic anemia story in 2000.

Same. The last time I felt any optimism for a soap’s survival was unfortunately GL’s in 2009 which by that point I complacent and assumed at the end of the day GL would still get renewed despite the usual worriedness as I had grown accustomed to.

Glad to hear this, the pandemic brought me back to Days to watch more often. I was about to write the show off for good with this latest round of negotiations tbh so I’m glad Days has been renewed for two years instead of the usual one with all the drama involved.

Hmm, hadn’t thought of Jeff yet but it does make sense given he’s pretty much never fully recovered from his car crash and poisoning in Season 2. Jeff’s death would give Alexis a lot more power that’s for sure.

Yep that is Evan. Evan is the brother of the drunk underage girl who was found the pond. Initially he was sabotaging Fallon out of revenge but then developed unrequited feelings and has became obsessed being her. So far though all of his schemes have completely backfired.

Liam is definitely too obvious. At the moment I would wager it’s some peripheral character like Laura or Evan. We’re allegedly supposed to see more characters show up for the funeral to rule them out, so it may very well be Culhane or someone like Anders who of course died in the original.

Lol fair point, especially for some of the longer seasons of Dallas, Dynasty, and Knots. So far there is no indication this incarnation’s of Moldavia is like the original. The Moldavians so far have been presented as terrorists, with Moldavia being something more akin to a Post Soviet Republic like Belarus, Turkmenistan, or even the real Moldova.
