I was watching the B&B scenes with Thomas, Steffy, and Finn the other day. They kept repeating the same dialogue over and over, barely rephrasing it and offering very little plot development or character progression between the segments. Maybe the ghost of Agnes Nixon needs to come and kick Bradley Bell’s ass.

Also, given what we know about the approval process from various sources, the execs had to sign off on such a story, which shows where they stand on this issue.

I just went with what I personally thought was the ideal tone of the shows I watched (or the tone of the time that best represented those soaps to me). In GH’s case, it’s what came to represent the “brand” in the popular imagination during the Monty era and persisted even through the relatively more grounded Riche/Labine era.

That’s the thing too. Most of the social media response to this show is VERY negative. And that goes for the people who we’d perceive as Y&R’s core viewers. Clearly they just don’t care and are just managing for margins/running out the clock.

If they are gutting this show to this extent, I would not be surprised, especially after NBC got out of the daytime soap business.

Yeah and also what the network execs and audiences expect from soaps has changed drastically since those earlier talents were working. I don’t think any of them would thrive in today’s daytime environment. They’d want far more autonomy and ability to tell stories with integrity.
