1995 had 10 contract cast departures, which was probably the biggest cast turnover.

    1995 cast changes.

Departures: Jean Carol, Barbara Crampton, Hilary Edson, Scott Hoxby, Melina Kanakaredes, Rachel Miner, Kelly Neal, Monti Sharp, Eugene Troobnick, Marcy Walker

Arrivals: Frank Beaty, Rebecca Budig, Amy Cox, Russell Curry, Kevin Mambo, Wendy Moniz, Jennifer Roszell

Returns: Lisa Brown, Michael O'Leary, Kim Zimmer

    Damn. Yeah 10 is massive.

@P.J. thanks. I thought Grant left in 05. I was wrong by one year then.

Were there any bright spots in the final 15 years? Some have said Annie psycho turn late 1996-early 1998 was, considering it lead to Cynthia Watros pulling off the biggest upset in Daytime Emmy history.

The Jonathan storyline was amazing! Tammy and his romance was a bonus.

Lizzie got added to that storyline and it was pretty good!

the Bill and Lizzie storyline was some classic soap opera telling and I liked that and thought it was great.

I even have to say that from the CBS Line UP GL was stronger story wise  than B&B/ Y&R between 2003-2009

Honestly, you can't go wrong starting with any period you love. I end up skipping around my favorite eras for one reason or another.

lol...true enough. But I don't think anyone gives a second thought to characters like Calla.

That’s a good move. I’ve decided I started with Jonathan’s first episode from 2004. Someone commented on the episode that GL lost 8 characters that year.

Which 8 Characters left during 2004? I mean 8 is quite a lot

Amazing to think we've got at least 3 episodes now from around this period. Finding '60s GH is spotty but much better represented than most other soaps.

This episode has a flashback to when Steve tells Audrey they lost their baby. I don't think that was in the other episodes we've seen (if it was, my apologies).

Reading up on Polly's history I see that a year after this she dies in a car crash, pregnant, while Phil is driving. Odd seeing this in an episode focusing on the aftermath of the same happening with Steve and Audrey (very different circumstances, I know). Was that the same headwriters? I wonder if viewers ever found these stories repetitive (and this one also had another round of Jessie/Phil) or if they just loved the characters enough to not mind.

Thank u so much for the tag…

What a gem! Can’t believe Jessie and Lee being so prominent. When I started the classics they were just supporting characters. Gosh I love Jessie

This makes sense (also, maybe it had already changed, but giving Corrie a regular weekday time slot and not one that jumps around by 30 minutes depending on the day, makes sense.)  I do wonder what it will mean for the CBC/Canadian airings I've watched with my grandma for years.  It could give us a chance to finally catch up (for a while now we get 6 episodes a week--2 on Fridays--but we're permanently about a 4-5 weeks behind the UK which means I hate to look up anything about the show online or even here due to spoilers.)  I mean the only soap I follow where I'm thankful for 6 episodes a week is The Archers, and that's a 13 minute show I can listen to on the bus to work :P

As for Dev, I actually sorta feel kinda defensive about him as he seems so hated online.  Don't get me wrong, I'm not a big fan (though my grandma finds him often very funny which might add to why I feel some defensive ness) but I think like DR said he certainly works as a supporting (VERY supporting) character with his kids, even mostly with Bernie.

But is him being supportive character during a financial crisis worth to keep him ? Hey I LOVED him in the 00’s with Suanita and he was funny. But he has become so annoying and his acting got worse. I mean he would be the safest one to axe and spare some money. I mean he is in this show for 2 decades and is eating some of the budget that could be freed tbh

  5. @Mitch64 I’ve heard a lot about that but never watched those episodes. Maybe I should give it a try.
Maybe it’s a generational thing but I don’t get the hate for the last Alan Spaulding. I mean I did saw the original one for more than hundreds of episodes and loved him as much as everyone else but the latest Alan actor wasn’t that bad. He did great with the material given and was fitting for the 90’s and 00’s.

I mean I’m in the minority but I did enjoy the GL 00’s. 2008-09 was rough filming wise but when it came down to storytelling it was actually pretty decent.
Maybe I’m too young to see the hate torwards the 00’s coz the others are used to the better golden age and I’m not coz I wasn’t born. But they will always have special place in my heart! 2004-2008 was another peak for GL. I enjoyed 1997-98 so much with Annie, Alan and them all but when Reva and the clone story happened like 1999-ish I was losing faith in this show. But I do think they redeemed themselves. People are way too harsh on the 90’s/00’s GL

Dark Shadows has lasted over 50 years in syndication and on streaming despite no successful revivals or reboots, and despite (and perhaps somewhat because of) its wonky budget, FX and onscreen production foibles. Any fan of the show (including several of us here) knows its issues very well.

As DRW points out, Peapack GL cannot say the same. It's because they couldn't put story or characters across the same way. Though I do think a better GL deserves a shot on the air today.

Only success Dark Shadows had after their ending were the big finish audios tbh.

I’m still confused as to why they kept him for so long since Suanita died. Yeah his kids became a bit more central and they needed their father around but was he really needed? NO! This is a character that should’ve put to rest almost 2010’s

Definitely for the best in Corrie’s case. I often look at my phone halfway through episode wondering how much time is left because the full show can feel longer than it should especially when the episodes are mid. Eastenders never feels that way

Really? I feel the opposite especially with Cindy accusing every freaking person 5 times an episode lol both shows a bit slow these days

  9. That person has uploaded a lot of 1998 and a few more from the 00’s. I don’t know why the audience wasn’t invested in this soap? I mean they tolerate Hollyoaks which was ten times worse than this

  10. I’m done with October 1981! Heather is cleared so far even though Burt Ramsey just wouldn’t let it go. If it was 2025 Heather could easily sue him for harassment at this point lol

Joe and Heather are so sweet . They are finally together. But in what world did he thought it was a good idea to invite those two lady’s to dinner? Anne having a go with Heather was the first time i appericiate Anne’s acting again. But she is just so annoying. I mean she got involved with a married men and made plans with him to get married while his sick wife is locked up coz she was not herself. If I was Heather I would’ve torn her apart too lol Who is Anne to judge? Can’t wait for her to finally leave.

we finally got Lila Quartermaine with a lot of screentime! Alexandria’s Will causes some great Quartermaine tension and Lila kinda putting everyone in their place lol Hell even Susan Moore! Gosh I love that old lady!

Luke and Laura. Ugh I love them and I get that during 79-81/82 they were THAT pop culture phenomenon but damn. They really dragged this wedding preparation and getting the divorce from Scotty out. Everyone wants a big party and Luke and Laura getting so many calls and post. This was probably GH’s sneaky way of showing the audience how crazy they are about LnL.it was amusing but I’m quite over it.

ONLY thing I loved about that story: Lee Baldwin getting the letter and keeping it! Edgy Lee is amazing. But poor Gail :( She gets yelled at quite a lot now :(

Alan-Monica. They were quite slow this year even though the Susan Moore story was developed fine. But we are getting there. Monica seems jealous of Alan and Susan’s happiness . Both get stuck in an elevator and She tells him that she doesn’t want a divorce. That was so hilarious! As much as LnL “revived” GH.. Alan-Monica-Lesley-Rick + Heather did too.

I love Steve but sometimes he can be so strict and mean lol But I do loved him putting heather in her place when she told him about Jeff’s letter and him wanting a divorce. Steve wasn’t having any of it lol

I wonder why they never axed Victoria with that little she has left family wise and story wise. I wouldn’t even notice by now if she was gone for good. I loved her but it would free up some salary.

Axing Leyla was upsetting but definitely a wise move coz there was nothing to do with her anymore.

Amelia on the other hand I can’t get my head around.

April will be found and she seems been through a lot and I’m like: no one cares! Axe her!

When you look at DAYS OF OUR LIVES, it is 1985 as the beginning point when full complete episodes can be found. Before that, it is very hit and miss.

Of course primetime is very different. Many shows have full complete episodes available. One exception is the short-lived THE MONROES where only half of the episodes are out there. This is because the others were not originally broadcast.

I would say 1984 there are 3 episodes missing between January and February and from mid feb 84 its all complete
