Y&R and B&B: Feb/March/April/May 2023 soccer preemptions- western US
@Errol @Toups I don't know how these schedule disruptions in western timezones affect the CBS soaps ratings. This article compares the number of viewers of these matches with last year, but I don't pretend to understand what it means: https://worldsoccertalk.com/news/cbs-and-paramount-break-champions-league-records-20230228-WST-421644.html

One Life to Live Tribute Thread
I don't remember Price Trainor at all. First I heard of him was reading this thread. I guess I must have seen some of him, but I just don't remember. I remember Carla with Jim Craig. And later with Ed Hall. Carla's story affected me emotionally, but I don't remember details. I don't know how else to describe it. Some things about the show are vivid in my memory, but some I don't remember at all. I don't remember many details. Just feelings/impressions I had. It's been 50 years. I wish I could be of more help, but I just don't remember.

Days: March 2023 Discussion Thread
Sonny's exit episode - the potential for time discontinuity had been bothering me. I'm glad they addressed it. He explained that he stayed behind in Salem for a couple of days to finish things up at Titan. But grrr. How to ruin things: Why did they have to make Sonny's exit episode all about Alex? Alex's needs, Alex's wants, Alex's ambition, Alex's ego. And a side plot of Leo being his obnoxious self, writing a gossip column stating fake scandals about Sonny and Justin which *he* thought was hilarious. (It's NOT.). At least Gwen won't print fake garbage. She'll only print true garbage. So then Leo writes a gossip column about Alex, Allie, and Chanel. Because apparently the episode has to be about Alex.

It's interesting seeing Nancy Pinkerton in that photo. She's the Dorian I watched the most, but I don't recognize her. But maybe it's Nancy's hairstyle in this picture - just not what I remember at all! I remember Dorian as a tigress. I did watch OLTL sporadically after Nancy left, so of course I saw Robin Strasser through the years. I guess Robin was dynamic enough that I remember her face and not Nancy's. Plus, back in those days, as I said in another post, I didn't know anyone who watched soaps, I didn't have the magazines, and I didn't pay attention to the closing credits or the actors. So I was completely unaware of recasts. I probably thought Nancy and Robin were the same person, LOL, so Robin's face was the face I began to remember as Dorian's face. Joe Riley and Larry Wolek in that picture! That's how I remember them. So handsome!

Yes this was the (mostly) cast I was watching (except for Jacqueline - the Pat Kendall character began around the time I stopped watching regularly.). After 1976, due to being busy in life, I watched only sporadically. Edit: I looked up the actor names on this photo via doing a search on Getty Images. I see that the actor in the back - Shepperd Strudwick - played Victor Lord. I don't recognize him. (I guess I might have seen some of his stuff but I just don't remember that face). I see from soapcentral that the Victor Lord that I watched (during my main years watching) was played by Ernest Graves?

I remember Sadie and Carla. And Carla "passing" as white. And the secret that Sadie was her mother. And later, Ed Hall. All these stories I saw only once with the original airings. There was no way to record shows in those days. And I've never watched any OLTL on youtube. All I know is what I saw *once* - 50 years ago. I *very* vividly remember Dorian's torrid affair with Mark Toland. I wasn't allowed to watch any TV or movies so I'd never seen anything like that (I had to sneak watching soaps when my parents were at work). And I think Dorian's sister Melinda saw them together or witnessed a related murder or something sketchy. I don't remember the details about what Melinda saw or but I think it was the start of mental health problems for her. Looking now on soapcentral bios of characters, I see that Nancy Pinkerton was playing Dorian then. But as I said above, I wasn't aware of casting in those days. When Tommy Lee Jones became famous later on. I didn't recognize him. I later learned he was the Mark Toland actor. When I watched there was only Viki and Niki. Niki was the only alter. And then later Viki was cured and it was over, I don't remember how/why/when. I saw the original version of Dorian allowing Victor Lord to die. Of course I read online that decades later they retconned it that Viki had more alters, and it went on for a while and then it was revealed that her DID was the result of her father having molested her when she was young. And she was actually the one who had killed him and not Dorian. I read all that in detail. But I never watched any of that. Back in the days when I was watching, I saw was what aired before the retcon. Dorian was responsible for Victor's death. I just posted all of the above off the top of my head without looking anything up (except for Nancy Pinkerton's name and Doris Belack's name). But it's been 50 years so I'm sure I've remembered some things wrong!

And Anna Wolek Craig. The first time I saw Doris Belack on some Law & Order reruns as a judge, I yelled ANNA! out loud, and my dog jumped, LOL. She amazingly looked the same.

One Life to Live Tribute Thread
Back in 1969-1975, when I was a young teen watching the ABC soaps, nobody I knew watched soaps. A relative who visited in 1969 introduced me to them, and then was gone, so I had nobody to talk with about soaps. I didn't have access to soap magazines. I had to figure things out as I went along. The internet wasn't invented. I didn't look at the closing credits, because I never thought about who the actors and actresses were - I was simply interested in the stories. I didn't know recasts were a thing, just that sometimes a character started looking different. If I missed episodes, then I had to figure out what I missed. I peek in this thread for a few minutes every once in a while. Most of the time you're all discussing characters that began appearing long after I stopped watching. It was so cool to see those few seconds of Wanda that were posted above!

Yes! That's from the era when I was watching OLTL live on TV. I loved Wanda. Viki/Nikki, Meredith, Larry, Wanda, Vinnie, and Joe were my after-school thing.

Days: February 2023 Discussion Thread
@Noel I can rarely tell when you are being sarcastic or not. This is not a criticism of you personally, Because it's not just you - I often have determining in general - with *many* people - if they being sarcastic or not. I simply have no idea. Also I am somewhat linear person and I don't get a lot of jokes and I miss a *lot* of things. So for missing sarcasm and jokes -- the problem is *me*. But I have to ask: I have no idea why you keep commenting on the clam chowder. Is it a joke? I have not paid attention to which SON members regularly watch what soap, and who is new to what soap. This is a genuine *sincere* question and not a slam. Are you new to Days? Were you aware that clam chowder has been a staple of the Brady Pub for many decades? And the reason is because the Brady family was introduced running the Brady Fish Market. After a fire and other changes, they opened the Brady Pub, but continued serving their famous clam chowder. Questioning clam chowder at the Brady Pub which is run by one of the show's main families ... would be like asking why coffee shop patrons enjoy coffee. Or if it was a show where one of the main families ran a famous vineyard, asking why characters are discussing wine. So that's why I'm confused why you keep commenting about when characters mention chowder. Until halfway through today's episode, Rolf had been working nearly 24 hours straight on Stefan, in the Brady-family-owned building that has the pub downstairs and bedrooms upstairs. Specifically they were working in the room upstairs where Eric lives. Eric convinced Rolf to come to Eric's room to do the procedure. Rolf knows the world-famous chowder is made downstairs, so he asked for some. Simple as that. Please forgive me if I am filling my post with random facts. It's not intended as instruction or critique. It's just my speaking style. _________________ All of that being said ... Sloan disliking clam chowder is apparently some weird character thing the writers inserted - because everyone for decades in Salem has loved Brady chowder. So she's different and nobody is used to her. I agree that it's a very stupid plot device for her, LOL. It's another stupid thing that Brady&Eric would make Rolf work 24 hours with few breaks. And they'd let him eat only after he finished. But it makes sense that Rolf would ask for the chowder, because he's hungry, and everyone in Salem has loved it (except for Sloan who is her own person, LOL). What's really awful is everything Brady is doing to Stefan.

How to remove photo thumbnails from displaying on sidebar or UnreadContent
Adding on more info. It's not just the sidebar. Thumbnails of attachments also appear on the "Unread Content" menu. https://boards.soapoperanetwork.com/discover/unread/ I often go to that menu to scroll quickly to see what's new on all topics from politics to cancelled soaps, to music, to spoilers, to primetime, to current soaps, etc etc etc. I view "Unread Content" in "Expanded View" because I like to see the first few lines of the post, to see if I want to click. The expanded view shows thumbnails of any attachments underneath the first few lines of the post. I can eliminate the thumbnails if I go to "Condensed View" but Condensed won't let me see the first few lines of text. I created a generic example of what I sometimes see when scrolling Unread Content: @Errol Is there any way to allow Expanded View of Unread Content to *not* display thumbnails? I'd like to see the first few lines of text that Expanded View gives but no thumbnails. The thumbnails are usually just reply-gifs and don't give any insight into what's being discussed.

How to remove photo thumbnails from displaying on sidebar or UnreadContent
@Errol The forum menu displays on my PC in a way that sometimes any recent attached photos appear as thumbnails on the right side menu. They are often completely unrelated to what I am currently reading. They can be thumbnails of still images or thumbnails of animated gifs. Is there a way to disable that, please? (I added more downthread re: unread content)

Re: Nicole: my thoughts. I was glad she explained to Paulina that she married Lucas because she was afraid of her past being exposed *AND* Kate also gave her the millions for doing it. Both things were true. From 1999: Kate had given Nicole the check but she refused to marry Lucas and didn't cash it. Then some thugs threatened to expose Nicole for a con game from long ago and blackmailed her, so she cashed the check to pay them off, and then had to marry Lucas because she cashed the check. https://www.soapcentral.com/days-of-our-lives/recaps/1999/990503.php I feel that was an example of Nicole being insecure and taking a way out due to fear.

@Tonksadora To simplify my life reading various threads, I need to put you on ignore. No offense, just making things easier for myself. Therefore would you please refrain from quoting me or tagging me, because I won't see it and it will make my reading of the site weird. (I'm not exactly sure how it would appear, and maybe I would see some of it, but I don't want to discuss that.) To keep things simple, I would just prefer that you *not* quote or tag me. Thank you. No need to reply or acknowledge.
