  1. Picturing Kay and Dina’s friendship got me thinking up a 1960s-set YR flashback spin-off! I think it’s pretty good… someone get Josh Griffith on the phone! I know all the timelines don’t sync up but just roll with it… Dina chafes at mothering baby Jack and needs a distraction. Kay introduces her to tennis instructor Brent Davis. Wayward teens Brock and Lorie start sleeping together and dream of departing to Europe. Lorie does all she can to sabotage her prodigy sister Leslie. The Foster family is stable. But suddenly, Bill Sr is fired from his bookkeeping job… Teens Snapper and Greg are played by the hottest new young actors in Hollywood. Jill will be played by a child actor, and rarely seen… though she will show a talent for hair and make-up. Pregnant teen Sally’s degenerate father is murdered. Rookie detectives Carl Williams and Frank Lewis are on the case.
  2. Kay had zero friends at her ’74 introduction and moving forward, due to her selfish nature, bitterness and alcoholism. It would be impossible for her to invite Jennifer to lunch or bring her flowers, unless she thought Jennifer could somehow assist her in holding on to Phillip or Derek. There was backstory that Kay was friends with Dina Abbott, but I picture it was a superficial booze-fueled connection Kay’s first true friend, where Kay gave without expecting something in return, might be Liz in the late 70s. If not Liz, it would be Nikki.
  3. In Sept 75 Liz tells Kay that Jennifer has breast cancer. Kay knew Jennifer’s daughter Lorie. I think that’s the only connections, at least through ‘75.
  4. There’s the classic unanswered question from Abby to Gary mid-Season 2 “Are you ready for me now Gary?” 😄🤣 which could have been interpreted multiple ways. It took a season for that to pay off. Personally I liked the slow burn… whether intentional or not by the writers.
  5. What a wonderfully written tribute! Heartwarming and heartbreaking for many reasons. Thanks for sharing.
  6. Gasp! We were just talking about him. So young 😕 RIP
  7. I think it finishes Sept 93. Don’t remember them getting trapped. The seniors almost get evicted until a surprise character saves the day.
  8. I watched in 93 and thought the senior story was so boring! I rewatched it recently and it was still a slog. Maxine is hard to root for.
  9. Beth M did a podcast about 10 years ago where she said the first time she left the show (‘87) was the only time that she left of her own choice. She wasn’t specific about why she chose to quit in ‘87.
  10. Who’s the guy in the pic? I’m pretty good with faces but he is escaping me
  11. oh, thank you so much! I actually stopped watching the tvinsider version of the vid, as the ads were so annoying. You're right! MTS has her 80s hair, while PBarton has that flattering shorter haircut circa '93. Maybe this is just photoshop?
  12. Haha same - this must be circa Dec 89 when Nikki was briefly engaged to Scott’s father Jim…maybe a fantasy sequence?
  13. Maybe some new vintage clips? Cricket and Danny meet, 6/25/84 https://www.tvinsider.com/1141136/young-and-the-restless-cricket-danny-lauralee-bell-michael-damian-interview/
  14. Thanks! Galen Gering as Nick…. hmmm hard to imagine
  15. I remembered that Joshua M was off-screen for a few months, I think it was 2007? On-screen, Nick’s plane crashed, and he was thought dead…? Until JM’s contract dispute was resolved. There were multiple contract disputes around that time. Definitely Eric Braeden circa 2009 where he was offscreen. Also MTS I think…? Interesting we don’t hear about that these days… an actor and their soap in a stand-off over compensation. I imagine soap actors’ contract are now cut down to the bone.
  16. Still no fan of Nick, but I appreciate how grateful Joshua Morrow is for his 30 years at YR https://www.tvinsider.com/1140833/young-and-the-restless-joshua-morrow-30th-anniversary-nick-newman/
  17. Love the deep dive @Vee keep ‘em coming!! Re: Doug Sheehan, I think, per SOD, he was originally going to exit at the end of season 7 but he was enticed back for season 8. His exit was his choice at the time and not a budget firing. He didn’t leave show biz immediately. He did a 2-season sitcom from ‘88-89 “Day by Day” notable for featuring Julia Louis-Dreyfus directly before Seinfeld. Trivia - polo was a hobby of Doug’s and he played with William Devane. I watched the ‘85-86 Dallas season original airings as a teen but literally have no memory other than Jenilee Harrison. Look forward to your observations.
  18. Yea, did not realize everything he was dealing with
  19. This popped up on my FB feed under African-American History… @YRfan23maybe more YR will start showing up on archive.org! ”Marion Stokes, a Philadelphia woman who began taping whatever was on television in 1979 and didn't stop until her death in 2012. The 71,000 VHS and Betamax tapes she made are the most complete colltion preserving this era of TV. The are being digitized by the internet Archive.”
  20. Hmm will take some research… sometime between May-Aug ‘85… Ashley reconciles with her “drunken slob” of a father Brent Davis right before he passed away in Sept ‘85
  21. Great find! But it does make me sad... Nikki should never ever be on the Crimson Lights set... she is a "Lady of the Manor". Such a decline in quality by July '95... end of an era... thinking back to the glory days of previous Julys like '93, '92, '91, etc..
  22. Thanks! Breaking news (to me at least) that Kristoff St John and Tonya Lee Williams shared a kissing scene on Generations, two years prior to co-starring on YR
  23. Gasp! Oh no. She started her soap career in the 70s on Search
  24. Does anyone else have vintage YR scenes that you continually revisit? Here’s my Top 3 (all available in the Vault): 5/18/92, starting at 50:40. The climax to the initial Sheila saga gives me all the emotions I could ever ask for. Almost all of my favorite background music cues are used. 6/1/90, starting at 33:22. This scene has haunted me since the original air… the way it switches in an instant from heartwarming to horrifying: 5/30/2013, starting at 23:19. I’m surprised that something so recent makes my Top 3, but this scene builds so well on Traci and Lauren’s 30-year history and TEB and BM’s close friendship.
