DAYS: February 2024 Discussion Thread
As I have said many a time: Nadia Bjorlin had a real shot at something big when she came back as the fourth part of a quad with Phillip, Shawn and Belle in the waning days of Sheffer's run. She was more of an overt, mature vixen character for the first time and had heat with Brandon Beemer. But since then they have put Chloe through every possible humiliation short of being knocked up by Martians. The character is a utility blow-up doll for the show. It's sad.

DAYS: Vet out!
She can win easily on the first part IMO, it's the second that's tricky. Which again makes me suspect this will end in a payout and Ari eventually coming back, because no indignity seems ever enough for the cast (especially the female cast) of DAYS. Which I can understand, a paycheck is a paycheck. I can't judge them. But I would love to see this topple Corday or the show in some way, I'll admit.

GH: February 2024 Discussion Thread
The rumors about RM some time ago were something much more serious than what was later revealed - I don't remember if the rumor was Parkinson's or something. I don't feel right going back Into it so I won't dig into it further, I'm just glad she seems happy. And I don't think you're a big fan of Dex and Joss lol. But I just can't with that dude. It's another little boy-type actor that we're supposed to think is a mature hunk, like Chase. Or maybe that's just the fault of the very milquetoast writing and characterization for virtually all the hot young actors.

Donna, I'm going to say this once. I only looked at your OP after John quoted it. You explicitly ask him to quote your post so people who have you on Ignore can see it. Do it again and I report you and whoever does it for you. Have a great Thursday.

When we want to see Donna's posts we'll take her off Ignore, John.

GH: February 2024 Discussion Thread
I think AM is permanent. Whatever is true about Robin's medical issues I think she's done and seems happy. I'd be fine with having her back but I do think AM has done a good job even if she is OTT sometimes. Dex and Joss definitely have a lot of sexual chemistry but he is just such a weepy wuss I couldn't care less, in addition to being tired of Joss in general.

GH: O’Connor/Van Etten OUT! Mulcahey/Korte IN!
Far from the first or last! To bring it vaguely back on topic: Tony Geary did that or more to Richard Culliton here at GH in 1997, and may or may not have thrown shít around with EP Wendy Riche, I can't remember.

GH: O’Connor/Van Etten OUT! Mulcahey/Korte IN!
Both Jill and Linda Gottlieb featured Erika heavily including new love stories, but Gottlieb was a very big, brash personality making a huge amount of changes very fast (and not without difficulty or mistakes). Yet at the same time Erika has always gushed with praise for the material given to her by Gottlieb's HW, Michael Malone. It's complicated. Jill's tenure was ruinous for the show but more to Erika's tastes as she again got a vital new romance with a partner she adored. It happens. I don't fault Erika (or several other actors at the show, not counting James DePaiva who threw a chair at Gottlieb) for feeling how she feels even if I disagree.

GH: O’Connor/Van Etten OUT! Mulcahey/Korte IN!
Yes, that's some of what I was referring to. I think Erika is completely wrong, but she's entitled to her opinion. Gottlieb and Malone changed that show (and a lot about ABC Daytime's production style) forever.

As caroline and I noted in the DAYS thread, I doubt this is the end for Ari. If Corday can go scorched earth on Missy Reeves' private life in the '90s when suing her and still bring her back, this is potentially peanuts lol. I would not be shocked if they settle and she's back soon, but that's not what I want. Like you and others I want real justice for her and the show overall. I just don't think it's likely; I think she'll get a payout and then come back. And she shouldn't. And yes, SAG needs to be on this (assuming it is under their purview - not sure if it is given the recent strike exemptions). I'm tired of soap performers being third class citizens.

I don't think we can apply that to young and hungry scriptwriters though. We don't know a lot about their output these days. I think you see that kind of attitude much more commonly in folks like Chuck Pratt who made it in primetime then came back to try to upend the daytime soaps they work on and 'disrupt' the paradigm, or society dilettantes like Maria Bell who have only a tenuous connection to the show. Others are a mixed bag or a matter of opinion. Sheffer was very arrogant and his changes to ATWT were vast and perhaps ruinous depending on who you ask, but he and his team also delivered viewers and critical heat early on in his ATWT run, before his talent atrophied and he bombed out in the latter years and especially at DAYS, Y&R etc. I enjoyed a lot of his early ATWT work but with a better sense of history I also can't argue with many of the complaints about it - those criticisms are very true and real. And there's of course a lot of fans (and many actors) who resented the changes Linda Gottlieb and Michael Malone brought to OLTL and Gottlieb's attitude about their show. I don't agree with those but I understand them.

DAYS: February 2024 Discussion Thread
No, that's not being posted. It began with people saying 'I wonder if Annalynne McCord is a Nicole recast' which quickly morphs into 'there's a rumor that Annalynne McCord is a Nicole recast!' and then finally to 'look, she has the same blonde hair she's always had! Definitely a Nicole recast!'

GH: O’Connor/Van Etten OUT! Mulcahey/Korte IN!
They have done some of that at GH in recent years, maybe the last 5-10 or so - yes, they were producing Frank's pablum, but it was still new blood who might or might not have capability under a strong HW with some control. Toups mentioned Shannon Peace but there are others. I don't know that I count (let's say it) nepotism hires like Emily Culliton. Good or not, she is a product of a closed economic system the same way Labine's kids were. But both the GH situation and the migration of some of the PP scriptwriters to the network shows proves it can be done.

DAYS: Vet out!
She has blonde hair and her hair is up in rollers, that doesn't make her Nicole. People run too quick with random spec and then call it 'rumor.' Would it shock me if they were stupid enough to recast Nicole on the heels of this? Nope.

DAYS: February 2024 Discussion Thread
I wonder. In the past I'd agree it'd get swept under the rug like the Missy case and many others, but it's a different era and Corday is singled out re: #MeToo stuff here. He might never live that down as per bringing Ari back. Otherwise I agree, they settle and Ari is back in a month lol. It could definitely happen. I just get depressed thinking about it.

I think you can and should have a mix of old and new talent. I'm not gonna twitch if PM somehow unearthed Harris or got MVJ to defect. Some people are just solid gold. But new talent, voices and attitudes are also essential if this industry is ever to evolve. I remember being quite pleased with the all-new (and diverse) names on the writing staff at OLTL and AMC on Hulu; I think many went on to get subsumed into the network shows.

DAYS: Vet out!
Whatever I feel about Nicole's shelf life, Ari has been through so much for this lousy show. I support her even if I do suspect the contract issue will be hard to get a ruling in her favor on - Corday is just a cheapskate.

GH: O’Connor/Van Etten OUT! Mulcahey/Korte IN!
My mistake! I suspected it was the Malone II period but wasn't sure how long, so much of that time runs together.

GH: Character Recast
I know from experience that Donna used to be connected lo those many years ago. And some of what she puts out there as new information may well be correct. But tbh at least half of what she says now is just stuff she is gathering from chatting on Twitter or wherever. Like, you telling people that you talked to a soap writer on Twitter who theorized that maybe PM is rewriting the previous HWs' scripts before March isn't you getting a line on new information; it's just you and someone else problem solving together and making a supposition. But it's presented as a hot tip and gospel. (I personally suspect Mulcahey and Korte will be ghostwriting perhaps well before March, but I'm not touting my suspicion as confirmation.) Do I think she means it that way? No, not always. But she doesn't always think before she just posts anything (and she's far from the only person on this forum with that problem). And yes, I've had her on Ignore for months too; I just keep getting stuff quoted on the page or referred to by others.

ALL: Soap Stars - Where are they now?
Kristen Alderson (OLTL, GH) has had her first child with her longtime boyfriend/fiance. They seem like lovely people who I am happy for despite being Very Online with their Twitch, YouTube, etc. (if you ever want to watch Robin Strasser play Mario Kart, that's the place) so I won't comment on their taking an afterbirth selfie with their newborn at the link above. The baby is beautiful though! Cute to see so many soap alum (Brandon Barash, Nafessa Williams, Tonja Walker, Bree Williamson, Kelley Missal, etc.) in the comments.

GH: O’Connor/Van Etten OUT! Mulcahey/Korte IN!
I never got a sense that Frank had an ego about the writing or creative direction during his many years at OLTL, until he and Ron became the Great White Hope of soaps - their big alleged plans to turn GH into the 'super-soap' of ABC Daytime, housing characters from all past ABC shows (starting with the OLTL transplants and Delia from RH, and continuing off and on today), etc. was supposedly his vision, and they took it very personally onscreen and off when OLTL came back without them in charge of it again. It was their baby and they lashed out in story in the "Pickle Lila" wars nonsense in 2013, which was a very thinly veiled allegory for them vs. Prospect Park. Until "Cartini" became those guys' living myth Frank was simply (AFAIK) a frugal, disciplined and focused facilitator.
